Daily Scoop: July 15, 2011 – It’s Friday, I’m in love!
Somehow, every time it’s Friday and I’m in a good mood, that Cure song is stuck in my head. I don’t mind, though – because it means it’s about to be the weekend! I’ve got a copy of A Dance with Dragons, some Just Dance, and I’m going to make a stop at the grocery store tonight to stock up on food. Wake me up on Monday!
Let’s see, deals, deals, deals… Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Sega’s Yakuza 4 for $24.99. Our very own Adam Woolcott had a lot of positive stuff to say about it, so I’d say scoop it up!
On the daily t-shirt front, Qwertee‘s “8 Bit Breakfast” delivers: (more…)

Daily Scoop: July 14, 2011 – A hoax is better than a Horcrux
Sadly, it seems as though yesterday’s too-good-to-be-true deal was… well… too good to be true. Overstock was experiencing glitches in their system, so anyone who ordered a $9 3DS or a $20 Wii was sorely disappointed. Well, not really sorely disappointed, considering we all knew it was too good to be true. Still, though… it would have been awesome if they had to honor them. And they could afford to drop some Moves for $9, am I right?
Anywho, Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Konami’s Karaoke Revolution! It’s $14.99 on the Xbox 360, $19.99 on the PlayStation 3, and the bundle for the Wii is $27.99. I love singing games, so even I’m considering getting today’s deal! There’s also one lightning deal at Amazon: Medal of Honor, which is $14.99 for PS3 and Xbox 360!
Paltry!
We’ve got a gaming t-shirt for you today, too! It’s a lot like the amazing “Poked to Death” shirt, but it’s “Death Portal” instead, and it’s over at Ript: (more…)
Catherine Hands-On Preview: Move Over, Freddy – There’s A New Nightmare in Town

Japanese company Atlus is no stranger to both developing and publishing unusual games – they are, after all, the creators of the Persona series. Their latest game, Catherine, has been dubbed an infidelity simulator, and fits right into their niche of the weird and wonderful. Even after everything we’ve written about Catherine, I still wasn’t sure what to expect from the demo. I tried not to have high expectations, but even as elevated as they were, I was definitely not disappointed with what the demo had to offer. (more…)
Daily Scoop: July 13, 2011 – Who wants a 3DS for $8.99?
Have you been wanting to get a Nintendo 3DS but haven’t had the $249.99 to shell out for it? Well today’s your lucky day! We aren’t sure if this is real or not, but Overstock.com has the Cosmo Black 3DS listed at $8.99 and the Aqua Blue 3DS listed at $12.86. We don’t know if it’s a hoax or a mistake or what, but several of us placed orders, so hopefully it is! Worst case scenario, they’ll send us a box of scorpions.
Update: A poster on the Cheap Ass Gamer forums wrote “CAUTION: Overstock may have been compromised by hackers. DO NOT use your credit or debit card. If you used PayPal, change your password immediately”
I’m not sure how reliable that is, or if anyone even got an order in before they sold out (they’re both already out of stock!), but be diligent.
No daily deals at Amazon, but I keep forgetting to mention their weekly deals – this week, it’s Dungeon Siege III for $39.99 on consoles and $29.99 on PC, Cars 2: The Video Game for $37.99 on consoles and $19.99 on PC and DS, and Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition for $29.99. Not too shabby!
No gaming t-shirts today, but both Ript and Tee Fury are dedicated to Joss Whedon today: (more…)

Daily Scoop: July 12, 2011 – This is NOT my week
I received an e-mail late last night saying that my copy of A Dance with Dragons has been delayed due to an inventory shift. Really, Amazon? Really? Because I pre-ordered that thing like five years ago. You couldn’t bump someone else’s pre-order? Has the HBO series really upped the popularity so much that you can’t cater to the superfans? I am disappointed.
Anyway, Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Nintendo’s FlingSmash with the black Wii Remote Plus for $29.99. And, not to be bested by Best Buy’s buy two, get one free sale, Amazon is also having their own buy two, get one free sale – and there are some good games here. If you haven’t picked up Ocarina of Time 3D or Portal 2, now’s your chance!
No gaming t-shirts today, but I’m sure our Editor-in-Cheif, John Scalzo, will be buying today’s Ript shirt: (more…)

Daily Scoop: July 11, 2011 – Irony of ironies!
Sometimes, I find I end up going through more pain when I drag a decision out than when I just make one on the spur of the moment. When Editor-in-Chief John Scalzo emailed me earlier this weekend to tell me that the Infamous 2 Hero Edition was $59.99 at GameStop, I waited until last night to order it. I waited as long as I could, thinking it would go down in price at Amazon, which has always been a more reliable way to order games, in my opinion. So, of course, after ordering it last night, I wake up this morning to find that Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is… yup. You guessed it. The Infamous 2 Hero Edition for $49.99.
Sigh.
Anyway, Amazon’s also having some lightning deals in video games again today:
- 6 AM PDT/9 AM EST: LittleBigPlanet 2 for $39.99!
- 9 AM PDT/12 PM EST: Experience the thrill of the Major Leagues – it’s MLB 11: The Show for $29.99!
- 1 PM PDT/4 PM EST: Lowest price ever on Razer Gaming Mouse – Razer Imperator Ergonomic Laser Gaming Mouse for $54.94
- 1 PM PDT/4 PM EST: Hit a home run with this great deal – MLB 2011: Dualshock Wireless controller for $39.99
- 4 PM PDT/7 PM EST: An arcade style, multi vehicle type racing game exclusively for play on PlayStation
As always, we’ll be updating the details as they come in!
As far as gaming t-shirts go, Ript‘s got you covered with their “Visit Rapture” t-shirt: (more…)

Daily Scoop: July 8, 2011 – Friday at last!
There are few things that put me in a better mood than Friday! It doesn’t hurt that I’ve got loads of games to play all weekend, including F.3.A.R., the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception beta, and Link’s Awakening. I’m also nearly finished A Storm of Swords, which gives me a few short days to inhale A Feast for Crows before A Dance with Dragons comes out. Laundry? Cleaning? Sleep? Pffft.
Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is absolutely amazing. It’s Hori’s Pikachu Charge Stand for the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL. It’s 50% at $14.99, and it is flippin’ cute. Like, way cute.
Amazon’s also having some lightning deals in video games today:
- 8 AM PDT/11 AM EST: Rule the world – Sid Meier’s Civilization V for $29.99!
- 10 AM PDT/1 PM EST: The best sound from MadCatz – Tritton AX Pro Dolby Digital Precision Gaming Headset for $122.86!
- 11 AM PDT/2 PM EST: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: step right up – Carnival Games: Monkey See Monkey Do for $36.99!
We’ll be updating the details as they come in!
No video game t-shirts today, but I’m going to buy today’s Tee Fury faster than you can say Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: (more…)

Uncharted movie gets Neil Burger as new director
Neil Burger, director of Limitless, The Illusionist, and The Lucky Ones, is in negotiations to write and direct the movie adaptation for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Variety has reported. David O. Russell left, citing creative differences, and it seems as though the first draft for the movie, written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, is going to be canned in lieu of whatever Burger has pitched.
This is good news for fans. Hopefully no Russell means no Mark Wahlberg, and no ridiculous storyline involving Drake’s uncle (I mean, come on, seriously?). Maybe dreams do come true for fanboys and either Nolan North or Nathan Fillion will get to play the part of Drake. Whatever the case may be, is it safe for me to say “Nathan Drake is back, baby!” yet? Well, I say that every day, so I guess it doesn’t matter either way.
Sony’s hoping to make a major franchise out of the series, starting with movies, and hopefully ending with books and, I don’t know, maybe plushy Sullivans. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves have sold almost six million copies. The next installment in the popular Naughty Dog series, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, will be out November 1. I’m expecting it will sell a boatload of copies.
