Daily Scoop: February 22, 2011 – Return to Helghan

I’m sure many of you will not read this until later, when you’re catching up on your daily reading through a Killzone 3 hangover (like Mike G says, “It has ‘ill’ in the name!”). I look forward to joining you!

There’s no Amazon Deal of the Day in video games today, which is probably because they’re gearing up for tomorrow’s huge Video Game Gold Box Event. We’ll give you updates as soon as we have them.

That’s all for today…unless you want to take your chance at the shirt.w00t grab bag today. Maybe you’ll score some good booty!

Daily Scoop: February 21, 2011 – Revenge of the Monday

Ah, Monday. Killer of weekends. Destroyer of worlds. Optimistic gamers can see it as one day closer to those new releases, but my half-empty glass perspective sees Monday as just another barrier, just another day to wait. But at least we’ll all be visiting Helghan again tomorrow. Am I right?

Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is Square Enix’s Lord of Arcana for the PSP. This is a relatively recent release (try saying that ten times fast), so $27.99 down from $39.99 is a pretty decent deal. Also of note is the return of Amazon’s Buy One, Get One 50% sale. Call me up when they’re buy one, get one free – I’ve already got so many games that the deal has to be one I can’t walk away from for me to even consider it right now.

If none of this is appealing and you still really want to spend $10, Tee Fury has you covered – or has your back – or has your back covered, I guess would be right:

Now That’s a Hammer, Bro!

Daily Scoop: February 18, 2011 – Preparing for Killzone 3

It’s nearly the weekend, and also nearly time for the release of Killzone 3. Who else will be spending this weekend preparing for that by playing through the campaign again, or perhaps getting in some Warzone before life as you know it completely changes?

Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is Activision’s Rapala Pro Bass Fishing 2010 for the Wii. It’s $19.99 today down from $39.99, which is a pretty good deal – I mean, if you’re into fishing for bass from your living room. But my favorite part of Amazon today was checking out the bonus offer list – I’m especially excited that F.3.A.R. has a $20 credit and that Pokemon Black and White have $5 each. Amazon knows I need no help with my addiction, but helps me anyway.

Of note is today’s shirt.w00t, which is timely, as it’s right on the heels of the Walking Dead game announcement:

The sad little zombie just wants a sandwich! The description actually reminds me of David Wellington’s Monster book series, in which some zombies still have brain functionality and – well, they never explicitly say it, but I bet at some point they really wish they could just want a sandwich again.

F.3.A.R.’s Paxton Fettel playable in single player

There’s already so much awesome going on with F.3.A.R. that I’m groaning over the delay from March to May. Now there’s even more to look forward to, as Warner Bros. has announced that Paxton Fettel will be playable in the single player as well as through co-op. The original plan was that he would be playable only with his brother, Point Man, opening up new avenues for both characters with his supernatural abilities. But now, after finishing a chapter as Point Man, you can go back and play it solo as Fettel.

I’ve had the chance to play this game twice already, and it’s absolutely awesome. Playing as Fettel is a completely brand new experience, as you can inhabit the bodies of your enemies to mow down other foes and even wreak more havoc than ever before from mechs. It looks like they’ve made him a bit more formidable as well – previously he depended more on his brother for the more powerful attacks, but now he seems to be kicking ass all on his own. Hit the jump for a killer video. (more…)

Daily Scoop: February 17, 2011 – I <3 Ampersand shirts

Well, I failed at baking last night, but I got my 6th badge in Pokemon, so it all kind of balanced itself out! I’m ready for a day full of Alex Mauer and Anamanaguchi, if you know what I’m saying.

Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games isn’t a game – it’s the PSP 2000/3000 Sound Dock & Power Pack by Intec. This thing looks pretty intense, and the best part is, it’s touted as “a high-intensity sound station for the PSP road warrior.” The PSP road warrior? Whatever that is, I really want to be it.

The real gem is today’s shirt.w00t, which is a Minecraft-themed Ampersand shirt, fulfilling all kinds of hipster dreams in one comfy t-shirt:

If I played Minecraft, I’d have bought this shirt already. I had my heart set on a Final Fantasy one a few months ago, but it disappeared from the entire Internet and broke my heart.

Daily Scoop: February 16, 2011 – Welcome to Castle Grayskull

I am not joking when I say nothing was going on yesterday. And I was off Monday, so yesterday felt like a Monday, but it was more like revenge of the Monday. It was bad.

Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable for the PSP. It’s $29.99 today down from $39.99. This comes right on the heels of the Atlus digital sale which ended yesterday. I guess this is so you can still grab it cheap, though not as cheap as you could have…? Oh, and some little game called Call of Duty: Black Ops (or as I affectionately refer to it, “CoDBlOps”) is $39.99 on all platforms on Amazon. Pick it up if you didn’t buy it with most of the planet back in November.

Despite the fact that this is completely unrelated to video games, my love of old school Guns N’ Roses leaves me powerless to keep today’s Tee Fury from you:

I’ve been rendered speechless by the sheer awesome of this.

Daily Scoop: February 14, 2011 – Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! I’m sorry this scoop is so late, but Mike Gutierrez and I were in New York City all day yesterday with fellow Warp Zoned editors Ryan Littlefield and Brianne Galli. We romped around in Nintendo World and the Sony Style store, and just generally walked ourselves into oblivion all over the city. It was an amazing time, but we are tired.

What better way to spend a relaxing Valentine’s Day off than to do some Internet shopping? Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts Re:coded for the Nintendo DS. If you’ve been waiting for a sale to pick up this port, I’d say $22.99 down from $34.99 is a pretty good time to buy.

Today’s shirt.w00t isn’t video game related, but it is Warp Zoned related, seeing as how we just announced our first contest:

Good luck with winning a copy of Super Meat Boy! He’ll be pleased to “meat” you, I’m sure.

Daily Scoop: February 11, 2011 – Yummy scrumptious TOFU!

It’s Friday, YAY!! And I’m off Monday! And we’re having sort of a Warp Zoned meetup in New York City this weekend, in which we will flail about in Nintendo World and the new Sony Style store! WOO!

Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is the stand alone software for Activision’s Band Hero featuring Taylor Swift for the Wii. It’s just $15.49 down from $39.99, which is a whopping 62% off. I guess we’ll probably see a lot of these in the upcoming months with Activision’s software, seeing as they’re chopping games off left and right these days. (Personally, I am pretty sad about True Crime: Hong Kong getting the axe. Can’t they release it digitally for $20 or something? I’d buy it!)

Today’s shirt.w00t is adorable – it’s called “Tofu, Food’s Master of Disguise,” and has tofu dressed as different animals, including a really adorable little pig. Truth be told, I think I like it so much because it reminds me of this t-shirt by The Behemoth:

Also, I loved a band in high school named Tommy Griggz, and they had a song about tofu, and it went something like this:

Tofu!
Yummy scrumptious Tofu!
Eat it in your hand,
it’s not very bland,
trust me it’s Tofu!

Good times.
