Daily Scoop: January 14, 2011 – Packing for MAGFest edition
Not much today in the way of scoops! It’s maybe a scoop and a half today. The Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is Namco’s Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo for the Wii. It’s $9.99 on sale from $19.99.
Today’s Tee Fury shirt is slightly related, but only in context – it’s about pirates. With the sudden hostile takeover on the PlayStation 3, it seemed like an appropriate way to end this week.
Have a great weekend, everyone! Mike Gutierrez and I will be down south at MAGFest until Monday. We’ll be posting some articles, but mainly we’ll be doing what we usually do on the weekends – sleeping, eating, and gaming.

Sony highlights 20 exclusive PS3 games for 2011
My head nearly exploded when I read the PlayStation Blog’s PS3 2011 preview list of their 20 exclusive games. “Nearly every major PlayStation series is making an appearance in 2011,” wrote Sid Shuman, Senior Social Media Specialist, commenting on the fact that Mortal Kombat will be featuring everyone’s favorite anger management candidate, Kratos. So just what else can PS3 owners expect? With titles like Killzone 3, inFAMOUS 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, MotorStorm Apocalypse, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, and more, maybe this is the annual joke coming true: this could just be the mythical year of the PlayStation 3.
The post revealed some important release date information. Team ICO’s The Last Guardian has been narrowed down to Holiday 2011, and Yakuza 4 will be released on March 15th. Nothing has been set for PixelJunk Shooter 2 or Twisted Metal yet, but I’m hoping to get my hands on the Q-Games sequel sooner rather than later. There are also some quirky titles listed, like Idea Factory’s Hyperdimension Neptunia, an RPG about – what else? – the video game industry. Check out all the details at the PlayStation Blog.
Daily Scoop: January 13, 2011 – Let’s Hear it for the Girls
Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is the Nancy Drew Collector’s Edition Fan Favorites by Her Interactive for the PC. It’s on sale for $25 from $49.99, making it a whopping 50% off. Buy it for the quirky, computer-loving teenager who can’t get enough of her detective novels.
Not too much else to report today, unless you’re trying to find a deal on a console, and even those pickings are pretty slim. You can get a $25 video game credit at Amazon if you order the Xbox 360 250 GB console with Kinect, and a $50 video game credit if you order the PlayStation 3 160 GB console. Sometimes I wish Thanksgiving weekend came more than once a year. (My wallet disagrees.)

Nintendo announces “no plans” to localize The Last Story for the West; Nicole cries
Yesterday, VG247 said Nintendo told them they have no intentions of releasing The Last Story in the west. A representative told them they have “no plans at present” when asked about localizing the Mistwalker game. This comes as a blow to us RPG fans, especially those of us who had just cleaned up the drool off our keyboards after watching the latest trailer. The trailer – which was five minutes long and utterly stunning – left us all hoping an announcement would be made, especially since rumors have been flying left and right as to whether or not this Sakaguchi-helmed game would make it into our hands. It looks like, for the time being, we’re out of luck.
Hit the break to check out the trailer, along with a 15-second long television advertisement. (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 12, 2011 – Another Portal Shirt!
I’m sad to report that the snow did not end the world, or even close anything in my sunny city of Philadelphia. Also disappointing is today’s Amazon Video Game Deal of the Day – a pink Wii Starter Kit for Wii Fit. An off-brand pink accessory for the Wii? That’s almost as bad as this half-assed snowstorm we got. Amazon, give us something we want! Something we crave!
At least this part isn’t disappointing: today’s Tee Fury shirt is a mash-up of Portal and Donnie Darko, two of my favorite things! Of course, now I’ll have no-no-notorious stuck in my head all day, but it’s totally worth it, because this t-shirt is awesome. The creator was inspired by the line in the movie, “Have you ever seen a portal?” It’s one of those moments when you want to hit yourself in the head for not thinking of something so simple and obvious.

Daily Scoop: January 11, 2011 – Pop a Cap in it
Today’s Daily Scoop brings you Amazon’s Deal of the Day: Bejeweled 3 by PopCap Games for the PC. It’s just $12.99 today down from $19.99. Amazon also wants you to know about “Get Fit, Have Fun, Save,” another one of their sneaky attempts to get you to exercise. Dude. Amazon. We’re geeks. Get over it already.
No t-shirt deals today…that is, unless you want to check out the massive clearance sale over at Thinkgeek. That Aperture Laboratories Work Shirt is on sale (up to 16% off) and so is the Science To Do Portal Babydoll (up to 26% off). I’ll even share a secret with you – but only if you like coupons. That is all I have to teach you today. Go forth into the world. And if you live where I do, be sure to wear your snow boots, because it’s on.
State and local statutory regulations prohibit us from revealing the entire nature of the experiment you are participating in today, but be informed that it may involve physics, psychology, thermodynamics, pharmacology, and non-Euclidean geometry. And cake. For the party. At the end. When you’re done. Sometimes cake is my favorite part of science. When asking your children if they would like to attend the Aperture Science Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, remind them that science = cake.

Lost In Shadow Review: Not As Solid As I’d Hoped

Lost In Shadow was released last week by Hudson Entertainment to a lousy critical reception. My initial reaction was surprise – I’d played a few hours of the game and so far, I really loved it. But as I continued on, I started to see many of the problems mentioned by other reviewers, and even found a few reasons of my own to be frustrated by the unnecessarily prolonged experience that is Lost In Shadow. Daily Scoop: January 10, 2011 – Exercise and Fruit
Who says video games aren’t healthy? Today’s Daily Scoop highlights Amazon’s latest gaming-related Deal of the Day and today’s shirt.w00t!
Amazon’s video games Deal of the Day is EA Sports Active 2 for the Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It’s on sale today for $48.99 (from an original price of $99.95), which is more than 50% off. They’ve also got EA Sports Active: NFL Training Camp for the Wii – same deal, $48.99 from an original price of $99.95. Not bad!
Even better is today’s shirt.w00t.com shirt – it’s called “Regius Fructus,” and asks the question: what if Princess Peach was literally a fruit? Fruit sex jokes abound in the description.
“Wait, you told me the princess was so thankful that you, y’know, consummated.
Oh god. Oh god, what have you two done? That Whole Foods is never going to let us shop there again!”
