Square Enix will publish Remember Me developer Dontnod’s next game

remembermeDontnod Entertainment, the developers that created 2013’s Remember Me, is teaming up with Square Enix on their next title, according to Develop Online. The game will be a digital release, though neither company has made it clear if the game will be a new IP, a sequel, or a spin-off.

The CEO of Dontnod, Oskar Guilbert, said, “We’re very excited to be working with Square Enix on our new game… It’s a twist on traditional story-driven games and we can’t wait to share more with you soon.” Lee Singleton, GM and COO of Square Enix London, said, “I’ve known Oskar and some of the team at Dontnod for quite a while now. They’re very talented so they’ve been on my list of studios I’d like to work with but we’ve never found the right game until now… We are not ready to announce the game details today, but I can tell you that I’m excited. This game feels refreshingly different from traditional story-driven games and you won’t have to wait long before we share more details.”

“Soon” and “won’t have to wait long” both indicate to me that they’re referring to next week’s E3, which means we won’t have to wait very long at all to hear the news. I would secretly love to see a sequel to Remember Me, which – while it wasn’t a phenomenal game – had so much potential and could really benefit from feedback for the first game. Seeing as they published that with Capcom, though, that’s probably not going to happen.

Daily Scoop: June 6, 2014 – Penny Arcade t-shirt extravaganza

First of all, today is Anthony Amato’s birthday! I let him open one present last night, and he chose the Tetris Lamp! We tore it open and set it up right away. It turns out it’s way cooler than I ever imagined! He gets to open his other gifts tonight after dinner and cake. And it’s a real cake! Not a lie.

Penny Arcade has announced a Spring Cleaning sale – all of their t-shirts are on sale for $9.99 (or less, in some cases). Some of them will be gone forever once they run out, so go grab the ones you want before they disappear!

There are some new sales happening at Steam today. Their Weekend Deal is Magic 2014 — Duels of the Planeswalkers, which is free until Sunday at 1pm. And their Daily Deal is one everyone should buy right this very second: it’s Hotline Miami on sale for $1.49. Go get it!! Now!!

In honor of announcing the October 14 release date for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (and the imminent 2014 E3 Expo), 2K has released this awesome new trailer featuring a moon dance. Yes, you heard me right: a moon dance. Watch the trailer above to see it in its full glory. While it’s no Doomsday trailer from Borderlands 2 (that trailer STILL gives me chills), it’s still pretty great.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on October 14.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will launch (to the moon) on October 14

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel now has a release date: October 14! This is ridiculously exciting news. The game, which is set between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, will document the rise to power of Handsome Jack. Check out the trailer above to see him recite his version of the poem “Ozymandias.”

They haven’t listed the participating retailers yet, but some pre-orders will include the “Shock Drop Slaughter Pit” bonus content, which will include unique in-game loot.

President of 2K Christoph Hartmann said, “The teams at Gearbox and 2K Australia have combined the best talent from both studios to create a Borderlands experience that we know fans are going to love… For those that haven’t played the critically acclaimed franchise, there’s never been a better time to jump in than with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.”

And everyone’s favorite dude, Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox, had this to say: “It’s incredibly exciting that an all-new Borderlands experience is as close as this October… If you’ve played any of the Borderlands games or if you have a friend who hasn’t yet, the opportunity to blast off as a new set of playable characters in a whole new campaign experience, including shooting and looting on the moon, is just around the corner.”

Rejoice! EarthNight is coming to PS4, Vita

Great news, everyone! Cleaversoft’s amazing runner, EarthNight, is coming to PlayStation 4 and Vita. The company made the announcement yesterday, and the composer, Chipocrite, followed up by releasing this incredible EP in honor of the reveal. I’ll take a moment to say that Cleaversoft and Chipocrite are both from Philadelphia. Philly represent!

The video above is the E3 demo gameplay trailer, and the game will be playable at Sony’s booth next week. EarthNight will be released “when it’s done,” and trust me, people: it’s worth the wait. The game will launch on PS4 first, then on iOS, Android, Vita, Mac, and PC.

Achtung Baby! EA’s 2014 World Cup simulation says Germany will win it all

EAsportsYesterday, EA declared that the 2014 World Cup would be won by Germany. EA simulated the Cup, testing all 32 teams using the conditions for the upcoming weeks, using the football/soccer engine from their 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil game. The final outcome was that Germany would win over Brazil with a score of 2-1. This would mean that Germany would be the first nation from Europe to win the Cup in South America.

The sports simulation giant predicted correctly that Spain would win four years ago, but if that doesn’t give you enough faith in them, you can make your own predictions at EA’s interactive bracket.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil is available now on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Check out the full press release (which includes predictions for every match after the Group stage) for the simulation after the jump. (more…)
