Yoshi’s New Island Review: Not Quite A Stroll Down Memory Lane

Yoshi’s New Island has been a long time coming. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, the first game in the series, was originally released in 1995. It was well-liked by gamers and critics and was even included in Nintendo’s 3DS Ambassadors program as a gift for the handheld’s early adopters. But where that one took me weeks to complete – replete with dozens of “Game Over” screens and more Mario tears than anyone could handle – Yoshi’s New Island took me just six hours. It was a fun six hours (spread out over four days), but the original had me dying more times than I knew I even could die in a platformer. While in the new game, I rarely died more than once per world. It was a breeze, and while I’m not surprised, I am just a tiny bit disappointed. (more…)

Daily Scoop: March 17, 2014 – Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and we got a nice amount of snow – though not enough to actually stop the city from functioning. I could have gone for a nice quiet day at home, snowed in with some hot chocolate and video games, but alas! It just wasn’t enough. I mean, I’m grateful I got some time to do that this weekend, but the weekend just never feels like it’s long enough.
Let’s talk about deals, shall we? Steam’s new Daily Deal is Mars: War Logs, which is 75% off at $3.74. They’ve also got a bunch of new Weeklong Deals, including Deathspank for $4.49, Spore for $4.99, Warp for $2.99, and many more.
There are lots of games for sale at the Humble Store as well. Card City Nights is $1.99, Teslagrad is $7.99, and the Total War Grand Master Collection is $41.24 (from $164.99 – yowza). Scoop ’em up!
Time for a whole bunch of Pokemon shirts!

Daily Scoop: March 14, 2014 – Yoshi’s New Island!
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty excited to throw some eggs in Yoshi’s New Island this weekend! I just finished up the original not long ago – mainly because Anthony Amato told me it was one of his favorite games and that I just had to play it. So I’m really in the zone!
There’s a new bundle over at Indie Royale – the Debut 11 Bundle. It’s got Spice Road, 8-Bit Commando, Project Night, Alchemy Mysteries: Prague Legends, Tropical Stormfront, Trap Them, KarBOOM, and 99 Waves to Die, all for whatever the current minimum is.
There are a couple of new game deals happening over at the Humble Store. KickBeat is $7.49, Doorways: Chapters 1&2 is $2.49, and Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse is $19.99.
Finally, there’s a new Weekend Deal at Steam, as well as a new Daily Deal. The Kalypso Strategy Pack is happening all weekend, loaded with awesome sales. The Daily Deal is amazing as well – it’s Counter Strike: Global Offensive for just $3.74. Scoop ’em up!
I know you’ll be excited about these t-shirts!

Daily Scoop: March 13, 2014 – So much goodness
I think I’ve turned my PlayStation 4 on more in the last two weeks than I have in the last four months. Those promised games are finally starting to come out!
Speaking of great games, there’s a brand new Humble Weekly Sale that just started up today. Pay what you want for Alpha Protocol, Company of Heroes, Rome: Total War, and Hell Yeah! You can also get Total War: Shogun 2 if you pay more than $14.99. Whew! That’s a lot of games.
It’s Rockstar Games Weekend at Steam, and there are a lot of great games in this sale. L.A. Daily Scoop: March 12, 2014 – This weather, amirite?
So our Editor-in-Chief, John Scalzo, had a snow day today up in New York, while here in Philadelphia, it was 71 degrees, and will go down to 26 later tonight. We’ll be getting that snow tomorrow, I hear. Seriously, this weather is crazy! But hey, I’ve got lots of games to keep me company tonight, and we just got another DualShock 4, which means Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition and TowerFall: Ascension are on the menu.
As for deals, you still have one more day to get in on the Humble Weekly Sale, featuring a load of games from PopCap. Humble also has the Devolver Debut, where you can pay what you want for Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition, Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, Austin High, The Poisoning, and One Couch at a Time. Pay $10 or more to unlock Defense Technica, Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, Cosmic DJ, Good Game, and MARS.
Over at Steam, the Daily Deal is The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav for $4.99. They’re also having a huge sale on titles nominated for British Academy Games Awards, including The Stanley Parable for $8.99, BioShock Infinite for $7.49, and Surgeon Simulator 2013 for $3.40. Scoop ’em up!
No scoop is complete without a bunch of t-shirts!

Weapon Shop De Omasse Review: Tap Your Feet to this New RPG Beat

Level-5 recently released Weapon Shop De Omasse, the final game in their “Guild01” collection, in America.Originally, the developer had no plans to release it here due to how much translation work would be required, seeing as the game is very heavy on text. But, three weeks ago, it finally came out here nearly two and half years after its Japanese release. The rhythm/fantasy RPG game is played from the point of view of the blacksmith who creates and sells weapons to adventurers. Except in Weapon Shop De Omasse, the master and his apprentice have decided to rent weapons instead of sell them, collecting their rental fee when the heroes return. With a quirky story and interesting mechanics, Weapon Shop De Omasse revisits the RPG genre from a different angle, bringing something fresh and fun to the table. (more…)

Daily Scoop: March 11, 2014 – Much excitement
Tuesday has finally arrived, and I can’t wait to get my TowerFall on tonight! I even gave in and picked up another DualShock 4, though I still need two more to get the full experience (and two more people – Anthony Amato and I can’t play them all ourselves). I’m so excited!
There are a couple of good deals happening today. The Humble Mobile Bundle 4 has some new games added to the unlockables section. Pay what you want for Catan, Vector, Riptide GP2, and Zombie Gunship. Pay more than the average for BADLAND Premium and Breach & Clear, and now the added OLO, Color Sheep, and Gunslugs.
Steam is having some sales as well. Their Daily Deal is Demonicon for $13.49, and they’re having a huge Franchise Sale on Call of Duty games. Black Ops II is $29.99 and Modern Warfare 3 is $19.99, with DLC on sale all over the place as well.
Got a few t-shirts for you today!

Daily Scoop: March 10, 2014 – On the eve of many games
I know I’ve already talked about this a lot, but tomorrow is going to be off the hook. Dark Souls II, TitanFall, and TowerFall: Ascension are all coming out. The gaming world is going to explode, and I am really excited.
Whew. Anyway. Not that you need to spend your money on anything else with all of that happening, but in case you aren’t getting any of those games, I’ve still got some deals for you! Amazon has a few new digital deals this week, including Forced for $7.49, the Hell Yeah! Collection for $9.74, and Renegade Ops for $3.74. Scoop ’em up!
There’s not much other than that… the Daily Deal at Steam is Grim Dawn for $20.09, and the Humble Store has Vertiginous Golf for $14.99 and Post Master is $11.21, among others.
And now, time for t-shirts!
