Universal’s Direct-To-DVD studio is making another Doom movie

Critics were extremely unkind to Universal’s Doom adaptation way back in 2005. Even though it features a stacked cast (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Karl Urban, and Rosamund Pike), the film could only garner a measly 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. But come on, that first-person scene was pretty badass, wasn’t it?
And now that Doom 2016 has rejuvenated the franchise, Universal is going back to the Doom universe for a new movie.
According to a new report on Variety, the studio’s “Direct-To-DVD” arm, Universal 1440 Entertainment, will produce the untitled sequel. Universal 1440 Entertainment is most recently responsible for the Death Race sequels (the ones without Jason Statham) and the Tremors sequels (the ones with Michael Gross, but without Kevin Bacon).
The news of another Doom movie was originally confirmed by actress and singer Nina Bergman on Twitter. She wrote that she has a starring role in the sequel, which is set to start shooting soon in Bulgaria with “a super cool Director.”
There’s no word yet on who’s going to sign up to play the Doomguy… or if the Doomguy will even be included in the film for that matter. Other key questions – such as “When will it be released?” and “Will it take place on Mars?” – also went unanswered by Universal.

Far Cry 5 and Sea of Thieves sail to the top of March 2018’s list of best-selling games

The number of high-profile new releases has slowed to a trickle in April, and that’s probably because game publishers threw open the tap in March. Not surprisingly, gamer scooped up these new titles by the armful, with Ubisoft’s Far Cry 5, Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves, Sony’s MLB The Show 18, and Nintendo’s Kirby Star Allies taking the top four spots in The NPD Group’s monthly tally of best-selling games.
The venerable Grand Theft Auto V remains in the top five, but other new releases, including Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom (#8) and A Way Out (#15), managed to break into the NPD’s top twenty.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, overall sales for the industry were down by 11% in March, however, “first quarter 2018 spending across the four categories [software, hardware, game cards, and accessories] was up by 15% year-on-year to $3.4 billion with growth in all areas.”
You can find the full list of The NPD Group’s best-selling titles for March 2018 after the break. (more…)
