US gets Pokemon Black/White 2 this Fall too

As expected, Nintendo of America has announced that Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 will be released this Fall. So if you’re keeping track at home, that means Japan will get the pair of DS games this June, followed by a European/North American release a few months later in the Fall.
According to Nintendo, “more game details will be announced throughout the year,” so I think this is the last we’ll be hearing about Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 for a while.

Pokemon Black/White 2 coming to Europe this Fall

One day after announcing that Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 will be available this June for Japanese audiences, Nintendo has revealed it’ll be released this Fall in Europe. That means only three to six months will pass between the Japanese and western releases of the DS game, a new record for a Pokemon title.
I’m sure Nintendo will announce a similar American release window for Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 later today.

Redbox offering free 1-day game rentals this week

Are you in the mood to try a new game next week? For a second, let’s ignore the fact that the answer to that question is “yes” every week, and instead focus on a new promotion being offered by Redbox.
This week (from today until March 1), if you use Redbox’s online reservation system to hold a game at one of their many rental kiosks, you’ll receive the first night free. But remember, Redbox’s standard fee of $2 per day will be charged to your credit card if you keep your free rental for more than 24 hours.
Sounds like a pretty good deal. Especially if you’re interested in trying out Twisted Metal, Soul Calibur V, The Darkness II, Final Fantasy XIII-2, or other new releases.

Weekly Warp-Up: Important Questions Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
This week we answer the most important questions facing the video game world today. The first question involves the very nature of what we call the things that we plug into our TVs and play with our phones and click with our mouses. Is it Video Game or Videogame?
And the other important question of the week is whether Binary Domain is a ripoff of our favorite sci-fi movies from the 80s amd 90s or an homage to Deckard, Reese, and Neo. Find out in our Hands-On Preview.
OK, so one is a lot more “important” than the other.
Oh, and don’t forget, our Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand contest has been extended through this weekend. Not really a question, but if you’re looking for a code for the PS3 version, be sure to enter!
More important questions will be answered if you hit the jump to read the latest Weekly Warp-Up. (more…)

Nintendo runs out of colors, announces Pokemon Black 2/White 2

I guess Nintendo finally ran out of colors as they announced the development of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 today. The monochromatic sequels will be available for the DS in Japan in June.
Black 2/White 2 will be the first direct sequels in Pokemon’s fifteen history. Usually, Nintendo follows up the previous year’s pair of Pokemon games with a third title as a companion game (Red/Blue and Yellow, Gold/Silver and Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire and Emerald, etc.).
A North American release wasn’t announced, but this is Pokemon, of course there’ll be one. Typically, the American release lags six to eight months behind the Japanese one. So Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 should cross the Pacific in early 2013.

Critical Mass developing Boondock Saints video game

Critical Mass Interactive has announced that they’ve been awarded a development deal by director Troy Duffy for The Boondock Saints Video Game. The short blurb on their website also confirms that we’ll learn more at E3 2012. But that’s not until June, so let’s start speculating now!
Critical Mass is best known for performing design assistance on games like Rift, Tron: Evolution, Tabula Rasa, and Epic Mickey. If they’re going it alone on The Boondock Saints, I believe it’ll be their first solo developer credit.
As for what platforms it’ll appear on, that was unconfirmed, but the smart money’s on mobile platforms. As fun as the first Boondock Saints film was (I can’t bring myself to watch the second), I don’t know how many people are clamoring for a game adaptation.
But, believe it or not, there’s already an iOS game based on the franchise. Released in 2010, The Boondock Saints Mobile Game is a twin-stick shooter that was actually fairly well received.
So that’s all I’ve got for speculation. Oh, wait, one more. Maybe the MacManus brothers will switch to crossbows in their saintly quest!
New Releases: SSX, Binary Domain, Devil Survivor 2, More

With Sony’s Vita launch behind us, the rest of the video game world closes out February with a few big releases:
- EA’s SSX returns on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
- Sega’s Yakuza Studio tries their hand at tech noir with Binary Domain (PS3, Xbox 360)
- Atlus releases another hardcore Japanese RPG. This time it’s Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 for the DS.
- Speaking of hardcore Japanese RPGs, NIS America plans to release Hyperdimension Neptunia MK-2 for the PS3.
- But on the lighter side of things, there’s PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond for the Wii.
- And on the even lighter side of things, NetherRealm has compiled the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
OK, that last one was a joke. You can check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)

Slash will be your guitar instructor in BandFuse: Rock Legends

So you got burned when you showed your friend “Through the Fire and Flames” on Expert, and he insinuated you couldn’t play it on a REAL guitar. Well, Realta Entertainment Group and Mastiff are teaming up to offer you the authentic experience.
BandFuse: Rock Legends is due out in 2012, and it allows gamers to plug their guitars and microphones into their Xbox 360 and play along with their favorite songs using animated tablature. This approach gets novices jamming right away, and helps more advanced players master their instrument, so don’t be intimidated, newbies! Grammy-winning guitarist Slash, formerly of Guns N’ Roses, will serve as BandFuse’s master instructor, and other artists will be integrated to mentor players.
Gamers can expect a wide variety of hit songs to play along to, from artists like Coldplay, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Judas Priest, and Maroon 5.
For more information, check out the game’s official website.
