Giveaway: Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand (PS3)

UPDATE: The winners have been chosen! Congratulations to all who won and thanks to everyone that entered!

Battlefield 3 was one of the biggest games of 2011 and unless you pre-ordered the Limited Edition, you probably missed out on the Back to Karkand pack, which recreates the classic Battlefield 2 maps “Strike at Karkand,” “Gulf of Oman,” “Wake Island,” and “Sharqi Peninsula” in Battlefield 3.

But if you still want it, we’re here to help.

Thanks to our sponsor, Relativity Media, and their new film, Act of Valor, we have 50 (that’s F-I-F-T-Y) download codes for the PlayStation 3 version of Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand to give away.

Want to win one? Well listen up soldier! Head over to our Facebook page and comment on this status update. We’ll be picking winners from the commenters all week.

And be sure to check out Act of Valor, which opens in theaters this Friday, February 24. The film stars real Navy SEALs using real SEAL tactics, so it might even give you some pointers for your next Battlefield 3 multiplayer session. And here’s the trailer: (more…)

Weekly Warp-Up: Vita Has Landed Edition

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

It was a big week for handheld gaming this week as Sony launched the PlayStation Vita to immense critical acclaim. Will big sales follow? Only time will tell.

But this week was an even bigger week for full-size console gaming as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim ran away with five awards, including Game of the Year, at the 2012 Interactive Achievement Awards. With the IAAs awards, the BAFTAs revealed their 2012 nominees. Batman: Arkham City and L.A. Noire lead the way with eight nominations apiece.

Speaking of England, our own Andrew Rainnie took aim at one of the biggest console games of 2011 with Seven Ways The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Made Me Crazy. That’s not an exaggeration, by the way. Look for his story, One Flew Over the Stalfos’ Nest, in theaters this Summer.

Bowser, Robotnik, Dr. Wily, Zangief to cameo in Wreck-It Ralph

The more I hear about Wreck-It Ralph, the more I like it.

Today’s bit of news comes from Disney’s D23 magazine (scanned by a user at DVDizzy.com) and it’s a doozy. Like the Looney Tunes and Disney cameos in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Wreck-It Ralph will be filled with a similar number of classic game characters.

We already knew that Kano (!) and a Pac-Man ghost would be making an appearance in a “Bad Guy Support Group” scene. But now we’ve learned that Bowser, Dr. Robotnik, Dr. Wily, and Zangief will appear in the scene as well!

There is a very tiny picture of the scene at DVDizzy.com, but it’s definitely them. But while you’re there, check out the D23 article, it’s a good read.

Maxis to announce next project at GDC 2012

It’s starting to look like Electronic Arts has every intention of owning this year’s Game Developers Conference. A few days ago, the publisher confirmed that a Medal of Honor 2 announcement will take place during the conference. Now, EA’s Senior Director of PR, Erik Reynolds, has also revealed that Maxis (creators of SimCity, The Sims, and Spore) will unveil their next project during the “EA Game Changers” event.

Scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 at 6:00 PM (Pacific Time), the event’s tagline is “How Can We Change the World Together?,” so whatever Maxis is cooking up, expect it to have a ton of community features like we saw in Spore. The event has also been described as “huge” and Reynolds promised that “special guests” will be in attendance.

If you can’t make it to GDC, fret not, as EA plans to livestream the announcement at EA.com/gamechangers.

Modern Warfare 3 “Overwatch” trailer reaches dizzying heights

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s latest Elite Drop, “Overwatch,” will be on top of a New York high rise. You’ll laugh at the overt sexism, appreciate the “cornucopia of sniping nooks and crannies,” and generally drool at how good this looks. Oh, and there’s more Rob Riggle too.

Me? Give me some Nuketown 24/7 and I’m a happy gal.

“Overwatch” will be available on February 21 for Xbox Live for Call of Duty Elite Premium members.

Razer making Mass Effect 3 accessories

Razer has teamed up with BioWare to make some sleek, fancy peripherals for Mass Effect 3. These drool-worthy accessories include:

  • Razer Imperator gaming mouse
  • Razer Vespula dual-sided gaming mouse mat
  • Razer BlackWidow Ultimate gaming keyboard
  • Razer Onza Tournament Edition Xbox 360 controller
  • Razer Chimaera Xbox 360 gaming headset

Plan on playing Mass Effect 3 on the PlayStation 3? Womp womp. No accessories for you. There will also be an iPhone case and a messenger bag for sale as well. (If you’re me, then you’re doubly screwed: I’ve got a PS3 and an Android phone!)

Mass Effect 3 peripherals are currently available for pre-order at the Razer store. The game is due out on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Twisted Metal movie announced

Since I’m catching you as you’re coming up for air from playing the new Twisted Metal, I’ll give you some good news – Sony has made a deal with Brian Taylor to make a live-action movie based on the game.

According to Deadline:

Like the game, the film will revolve around an underground event that pits a number of combatants in a fight to the death. They are outfitted in armored weaponized cars that are pimped out with heavy weaponry that includes missiles and machine guns. Some drop mines or launch electrical charges. The proprietor of the race is Calypso, a string-puller dedicating to examining the human condition, such as what makes a peaceful man violent, what terrifies a violent man and who will make a Faustian bargain in which they risk their lives. The sole survivor will get any wish granted.

I’m torn here – while there’s a lot of potential here for an awesome movie, they’ve signed on the guy who is responsible for the Ghost Rider and Crank movies. It’s hard to tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
