Bethesda programmed Morrowind, Cyrodiil into Skyrim

When I first picked up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, I realized that this was the way I wanted to play Elder Scrolls. I only wished that I could return to the lands from the two previous games, Morrowind and Cyrodiil, with Skyrim’s engine. Well, maybe we won’t have to wait that long for an official way to do it.

On the tumblr site PPSh-41, the owner of the site, Jesse, has used the noclip setting in the PC version of the game to go outside Skyrim’s boundaries. There, he found that the worlds of the previous two games were actually IN the game. Sadly, these lands were in a dramatically lower resolution, lower scale, and not functional or playable in any form.

Why is it there?  I would like to hope that maybe Bethesda has some big plans for Skyrim DLC in the future to include the worlds of the previous games. Of course, this could also just be the attention to detail that Bethesda is known for in it’s games, or just throwing in a nice little easter egg for those who were curious. Either way, it’s a rather exciting prospect.

Once again, the tumblr article with pictures and analysis can be found here: PPSh-41.

MotorStorm RC shrinks down for PSN, Vita release in 2012

Evolution Studios’ MotorStorm series has been a big hit with PlayStation 3 and PSP owners since the original MotorStorm was released back in 2006. And each entry in the series has been bigger than the last. But with the next MotorStorm game, the developers plan to go small. The team at Evolution looked to the recent Scrap Metal and, of course, R.C. Pro Am, and found the inspiration for MotorStorm RC, a tiny top-down take on the racing franchise.

The best part? MotorStorm RC will be available as a PlayStation Network and Vita download, and if you buy one, you get both!

According to Sony, MotorStorm RC will recereate “visually stunning renditions of all four MotorStorm worlds (and eight of their vehicle classes).” The game will also include 16 tracks, online play, and four-player local splitscreen.

MotorStorm RC is currently scheduled to be released sometime in the Spring, “on or closely after [the] Vita launch.”

Max Payne 3 is really coming. After years of false starts and delays, the game is finally on track for a March 2012 release. And Rockstar plans to celebrate with the release of a massive Special Edition of the game that must be pre-ordered before January 15, 2012.

Retailing for $99.99, the Max Payne 3 Special Edition will include a copy of the game and a ton of other cool content. I think my favorite piece of included swag is the bullet keychain with a screw-off back.

Even if bullet keychains aren’t your thing, there’s sure to be something you find cool within this package. Here’s what else you’ll find in the Max Payne 3 Special Edition:

  • 10″ tall Collectible Max Payne Statue created in a collaboration between TriForce and Rockstar Games.
  • Series of game-inspired Original Still Life Art Prints that depict some of Max Payne’s inner demons and vices.
  • Copper and brass-plated iron, bullet-shaped Bullet Keychain featuring a screw-off back.
  • Classic Multiplayer Character Pack of eight playable multiplayer characters for Max Payne 3 multiplayer, including fan favorites from the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2 like Max in his Max Payne 2 outfit, Mona Sax and Vladimir Lem.
  • Disorderly Conduct Multiplayer Weapons Pack for Max Payne 3 multiplayer that includes the Hammerhead Auto Shotgun, G9 Grenade Launcher and Molotov cocktail.
  • Max Payne 3 Official Soundtrack featuring the game’s instrumental score.

Another Hitman in the works at Square Enix; Eidos Montreal begins another “AAA project”

The city of Montreal has been very, very good to Square Enix. The publisher’s Montreal-based development team, Eidos Montreal, recently shipped the critically acclaimed Deus Ex: Human Revolution. And as they continue work on Thief 4, the team has announced they’re adding 100 jobs and starting development on a new “AAA project.”

But it looks like Montreal is in line for even more Square Enix love as the company has confirmed a second studio based in the city will open its doors next year. This team, known as Square Enix Montreal, will employ 150 people as they seek to create another entry in the Hitman series. This title will be in addition to Hitman: Absolution, which franchise creator IO Interactive has lined up for a 2012 release.

“Montreal is a vibrant center of game creators with industry-leading talent, and one of the most important bases of our global network of game development within the Square Enix Group,” said Yoichi Wada, President and Chief Executive Officer of Square Enix.

Kojima on Metal Gear Solid 5: “We’ll have to make it at some point”

Official PlayStation Magazine UK‘s in-depth interview with Hideo Kojima was said to touch on every aspect of the famed developer’s career including the past, present, and future. So what better way to hype their sit down than by promising to reveal Kojima’s thoughts on the future of his biggest franchise?

Sadly, that’s not exactly how the interview went down. Apparently, development has yet to begin on Metal Gear Solid 5, but Kojima sounds committed to bringing Solid Snake back someday:

“I think we’ll probably have to make [Metal Gear Solid 5] at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea. As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won’t be as much as it was with MGS1 – maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on – that level I can’t do again.”

And as he’s said before, Kojima believes that when development on Metal Gear Solid 5 finally does begin, someone else at Kojima Productions will handle the bulk of the directing duties:

“I intended to take [Metal Gear Solid 4] to a certain point and then hand it off, but that didn’t work, because it’s hard to convey the concept to other people then have them take the reins and carry on and preserve that vision. That’s why it’s easier to have them come up with everything from the start and then take it to the end.”

So there you have it, Metal Gear Solid 5 isn’t in production and Kojima doesn’t even know when development will begin. But it is coming. How’s that for an announcement of an announcement?
