Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch coming to PS3 in Europe, North America in 2012

This is a great day to be an RPG nerd! Level-5’s Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch has been officially announced for Europe and North America. The game, animated by Studio Ghibli with music by Joe Hisaishi, will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Akihiro Hino, President and CEO of Level-5, said, “It was a momentous experience to create a game with artists who represent Japan as much as Studio Ghibli and Mr. Hisaishi do. We sincerely want to share this title with the entire world.”

Senior Vice President of Namco, Olivier Comte, said, “The incredible people involved in this game give it a pedigree that is rarely seen in video games, and it’s a fantastic addition to our line-up for 2012. It takes a very hard heart not to be thoroughly enchanted by the amazing universe they have created together.”

That’s no exaggeration. I, for one, am very excited to run around with young Oliver, who is just trying to bring back his mother, who passed away. While I’m still clinging to the hope that the DS game will also be coming to America, I think I might want this amazing special edition PS3 even more: (more…)

Weekly Warp-Up: Gotham City Comic-Con Edition

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

New York City should just officially change their name to Gotham. Think of what it would do for tourism! And doubly so since the New York Comic-Con was this weekend. Who wouldn’t want to go to the Gotham City Comic-Con? Nerds who haven’t even been born yet just had a brain meltdown over that thought.

While the NYCC is typically more low-key than the much better known San Diego Comic-Con, there was still plenty of big announcements:

Oh, and there’s a very good chance Capcom goofed and revealed the Vita’s North American release date.

Hit the jump for the rest of the Weekly Warp-Up. (more…)

Halo Anniversary Kinect controls detailed

We always knew that Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was going to be more than a straight port. Yesterday, at the New York Comic-Con, the development team at 343 Industries detailed the game’s new Kinect functionality.

Like Mass Effect 3, Kinect users will be able to use voice commands in-game. For example, yelling “Grenade!” will chuck out a grenade while yelling “Reload!” will reload your current weapon.

The Kinect add-on will also enable an Analyze Mode within Halo Anniversary. Yelling “Analyze” will scan the surrounding area and add any enemies encountered into a database dubbed The Library. That’s neat and all, but games have been doing the beastiary thing for decades now. Why is this a Kinect-only thing?

Amazing Spider-Man gameplay trailer is pretty amazing

Activision just unveiled the first gameplay trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man at the New York Comic-Con. Once again developed by Beenox, the game brings back the open world New York of previous Spider-Man games that we’ve all missed spectacularly.

The sensational trailer shows Spider-Man zipping around Manhattan like never before. Not only does the webslinger move faster than ever, but some parts of the trailer even took place at night. The trailer comes to a close just before a confrontation with a Spider Slayer.

The Amazing Spider-Man is on track for a Summer 2012, alonside the new film starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

If you’re a gamer and you have a pulse, this week is a very important week for new game releases. And that’s all because Batman: Arkham City (PS3, Xbox 360) will be available in stores this Tuesday. I’d just call in sick to work now to be on the safe side.

Capcom accidentally reveals Vita will launch in US before March 6

So we know that the PlayStation Vita won’t be released in North America and Europe until the early part of 2012. But it looks like the launch window has been narrowed down considerably by Capcom.

The publisher announced earlier today that Street Fighter X Tekken would be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Vita on March 6, 2012. That means Capcom is the only publisher to put a specific date on one of their Vita launch titles. And it’s right in the middle of that juicy “Early 2012” window that Sony has talked about for the Vita’s launch. Of course, it’s also possible that Street Fighter X Tekken isn’t a launch day title and the handheld will actually be available before March 6.

As of right now, this is all basically speculation. But I think it’s pretty solid evidence that the Vita will launch in February (or maybe even January) instead of a Spring release in March or April.

Street Fighter X Tekken coming March 6; new details, special edition announced

The biggest battle royale since Mario took on Sonic now has an official release date. Capcom used this year’s New York Comic-Con to confirm that Street Fighter X Tekken will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Vita on March 6, 2012. A PC version will be released at a later date.

In addition to the release date, Capcom has unveiled a ton of new gameplay details in an informative six-minute trailer which you can view after the break.

A new “Gem System” will ensure that no two players will play the same way, even if they choose the same character. Dozens of Gems, which fit into five categories (Attack, Defense, Speed, Balance and Cross Gauge), are available to customize each fighter. And the best way to get a jump on the competition is with the Street Fighter X Tekken Special Edition, which will include 36 Gems.

Oh, did I mention Capcom announced a Special Edition for Street Fighter X Tekken? Because they did, and it is awesome. Besides the Gems and a copy of the game, the Special Edition will include a prequel comic created by Udon and a five-inch coin bank shaped like an arcade cabinet (a disclaimer dashes our hope of true handheld play as the cabinet is NOT PLAYABLE according to Capcom).

And if you look close, Capcom also accidentally announced a Vita launch window. Way to go guys. (more…)
