Rumor: Xbox Live Dashboard update includes web browser, coming in October

A source inside Microsoft has informed Warp Zoned that this Fall’s Xbox Live Dashboard update will be available starting in October. OK, that’s nice, October is a more accurate release date than “this fall.” But our source also revealed that, in addition to a new Windows 8-inspired user interface and a variety of Kinect control enhancements, the update will include web browsing through an Internet Explorer app. Internet Explorer on the Xbox 360, along with the new Bing Search, is apparently “very cool” according to our source.

Microsoft has announced a boatload of new features for their fall update, but Internet browsing has not been one of them so far. Sadly, further clarification was not offered, so it’s possible our source is mistaken. But with the PlayStation 3 and Wii both offering a web browser, this seems like a no-brainer for Microsoft.

We’ll keep you posted.

L.A. Noire cracks the PC case on November 8

After a painstaking investigation, I have discovered when Rockstar Games will release the PC version of L.A. Noire. OK, it was actually announced for all the world in a press release. Guess I better turn in my badge and my gun.

Scheduled for release on November 8, the PC version of L.A. Noire has been dubbed “The Complete Edition” due to an infusion of all five DLC cases. Previously available on the PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace, there’s the “Nicholson Electroplating” Arson case, “Reefer Madness” Vice case, “The Consul’s Car” Traffic case, “The Naked City” Vice case and “A Slip of the Tongue” Traffic case.

“The Complete Edition” will also include that staple of 1950s cinema, stereoscopic 3D support, to make L.A. Noire stand out even more.

Finally, Rockstar has released the System Specifications for L.A. Noire, which you can find after the break. (more…)

I am completely in love all over again. Also. People. It is pronounced EE-ko. Not AI-ko! “I” in Japanese comes out like “ee.” Everyone thinks I’m talking about Ecco the Dolphin when I mention my love of Ico. Please, stop the insanity!

Risk: Metal Gear Solid brings the PMCs to your tabletop

Just when you thought it was safe to pick up your controller, Konami announced they’re making Risk: Metal Gear Solid. This limited edition will be available for pre-sale starting October 3, and will cost $49.95.

Adam Sblendorio, Lead Game Designer for USAopoly, said, “Metal Gear Solid builds on the modernized and streamlined Risk game play introduced in 2008 with all new Metal Gear Solid components to create a unique, fun and fast paced experience for Risk and Metal Gear Solid fans alike. In order to win you’ll have to take advantage of Metal Gear Solid specific high powered black market weapons, hire the right mercenary boss at the right time, manage alliances and watch your back as the mobile battleship, Outer Haven, can invade territories from new locations (watch out Australia).”

With six zones and 42 territories (and an additional Outer Haven battleship); 275 custom plastic pieces that represent the five PMCs, neutral armies and cities; 8 Boss Cards, 40 Drebin’s Cards, 42 Territory Cards and eight earnable Rewards, the game is sure to be as fun as it is complicated. And really, what better way to flex your strategic conquest muscles than through the mercenary styling of the Metal Gear universe?

But if you want it, you better hurry, USAopoly is limiting production to 2,014 numbered sets.

Skyrim’s voice cast includes multiple Oscar nominees

The Elder Scrolls series has always managed to attract respected actors to speak the thousands of lines of dialogue in a typical game in the series. But The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is going to take the star-studded cast thing further than ever before. Skyrim’s cast will feature not one, not two, but three Oscar-nominated actors. Admit it Bethesda, you’re just bragging now.

Oscar nominees Christopher Plummer, Max Von Sydow and Joan Allen will be joined by Lynda Carter (she was Wonder Woman people!), Claudia Christian (Ivanova from “Babylon 5”), Michael Hogan (“Battlestar Galactica”) and a whole host of others.

“It’s been incredible to have all these actors together,” said Todd Howard, Game Director. “When you start a project, you always make your wish-list of actors, and to actually hear them in the game, it’s amazing. We can’t wait for everyone to experience it.”

New Darkness II trailer asks “What Is The Darkness?”

What is The Darkness? It’s a quartet of tentacles that mob enforcer Jackie Estacado uses to rend the flesh from criminals big and small.

Oh, I guess it’s also a malignant force of evil that has hopped from body to body for millenia. But Jackie has kept it in check since the conclusion of the first game in the series. But in The Darkness II, the four tentacles are coming out to play with a new “quad-wielding” weapon system.

So what’s in the “What is The Darkness” trailer? A little bit of backstory about the malignant force of evil and a lot of mobsters getting flayed. Enjoy!

The Darkness II will be available for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on February 7, 2012.
