Find Makarov sequel premieres at Call of Duty XP
Activision’s two-day Call of Duty event, Call of Duty XP, is just about coming to a close in Los Angeles. During the two-day festival celebrating COD, the publisher unveiled a sequel to the awesome Find Makarov fan film.
Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish was created by We Can Pretend, the same production team behind the first fan film. Although, now that they have Activision’s blessing, it’s not really a fan film anymore, is it? Three other companies assisted on the Soap-centered tale: Meteoric, The Junction VFX, and Stealing Time.
You can check it out above and hopefully we’ll get more of these videos as part of Activision’s new Call of Duty Elite TV initiative.
Call of Duty Elite Premium features detailed
Call of Duty XP is in full swing and fans are being treated to a host of unique experiences such as the chance to run through Modern Warfare 2‘s “The Pit” training course and play paintball in a replica of the “Scrapyard” map. But accompanying these activities is some fresh Call of Duty news, like the detailed features of a premium Call of Duty Elite membership.
Should you opt to pay $49.99 a year for Elite status (or jump on the Hardened Edition of MW3, which includes a yearlong subscription to Call of Duty Elite), you’ll be able to access:
- A year’s worth of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 DLC available monthly during the “nine-month DLC season”
- Daily competitions for in-game/real-world prizes
- 24/7 Competition calendar
- Clan Competition
- Up to 24 minutes of HD gameplay video capacity
- Call of Duty Elite TV videos including Ridley Scott’s “Friday Night Fights” and DumbDumb’s “Cocked Hammers” and “Noob Tube!”
These are just some of the premium features that were detailed at Call of Duty XP. For a full list of what the free and premium plans have to offer, as well as a comparison chart, visit CallOfDuty.com.
The Call of Duty Elite free and premium memberships will launch with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 8, 2011.

New Releases: Resistance 3, Dead Island, Star Fox 64 3D, More

The calendar has turned over to September and we know what that means… the stingy Summer of games is over and the Fall release rush is finally here! This week’s new release slate blows away almost everything we’ve received in the last three months. There’s truly something for everybody:
- Sony finishes the fight with the Chimera in Resistance 3 (PS3).
- Zombies invade a tropical paradise in the super-hyped Dead Island (PC, PS3, Xbox 360).
- Star Fox 64 3D, one of the greatest space shooters of all time, comes to the 3DS.
- The Wheelman returns for another getaway in Driver: San Francisco (PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360).
- Those wacky guys at NIS America return to the wacky world of Disgaea in Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten (PS3)
- Sega’s non-conventional Kinect title Rise of Nightmares slices and dices store shelves.
- And finally, THQ twists the Warhammer license into an action shooter with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (PC, PS3, Xbox 360).
Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)

Get CoD Modern Warfare 3-branded stuff this fall including an Xbox 360, Jeep, Mountain Dew
Sure, you’re planning to pick up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 this November. But do you plan to make your life revolve around the shooter franchise? Well, Activision is hoping that you do.
First up, they’ve got a special Modern Warfare 3-themed Xbox 360 system. The system will be priced at $399.99 and include a 320GB hard drive, two controllers, a Bluetooth headset, special startup and shutdown sounds and a copy of the game. The controller and the headset will both be available separately as well.
So you’ve got the game and you’ve got the system, but how do you plan to get to the store? Jeep is hoping you drive there in a 2012 Call of Duty Special Edition Wrangler. The custom four-wheeler was designed with input from Modern Warfare 3 developers. The development team also helped out with the creation of the new Mountain Dew Game Fuel Tropical flavor. Finally, every package of Doritos you purchase in October will include an offer for Double XP in Modern Warfare 3.
All of these products will be available after the game’s November 8th launch. But I gotta wonder, where’s the Call of Duty-branded guns?

Three Persona titles on the horizon including P4 Vita, Persona 5 and a fighter
Atlus is set to shower us with more Persona love and will be porting Persona 4 to the PlayStation Vita as “Persona 4: The Golden“. This remake will contain a host of new features including a new character, a new opening sequence with new music from Shouji Meguro, and more voice work than the original PS2 version.
Atlus has also announced that it will release a 2D fighting game called Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena. And though its title says “Persona 4”, it will also feature characters from Persona 3. This student/persona brawl will be the product of a partnership between Atlus and Arc System Works, the makers of fighting games such as the BlazBlue and Guilty Gear series. Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena is scheduled for a Summer 2012 release (in Japan) on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Persona 5 has also been teased and some details, such as the game’s staff, have been revealed. The regular team, including Director Katsura Hashino and composer Shouji Meguro,is returning, but no other details (including which systems it’ll land on) have been mentioned. I’m personally hoping that it’ll come to PS3 and expand on the magic I felt from stumbling around drunkenly in a bar.

Rock out with Johnson and the Shadows of the Damned soundtrack
Shadows of the Damned was a unique game to say the least. It was chock full of memorable characters and weapons. I quite enjoyed the demon harmonica player. But the most striking thing about the game was that it eschewed the expected heavy metal soundtrack in favor of a more haunting and melodic blend of nylon string guitar, horns, and reverberating drums.
Now you can experience the music of Shadows of the Damned in a brand new way with the release of its stellar soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka. He set out to do something a little bit different with the release of this album.
“I wanted to craft a soundtrack that was more than just a collection of the most popular songs from Damned. I set out to create an experience that would take players back to the game, as if they were ‘watching’ a movie,” Yamaoka said.
The music certainly does bring back the macabre atmosphere of the game. All you have to do is close your eyes and you can watch the whole story unfold once again. The famous rock band The Damned even make an appearance on the album. How appropriate.
You can purcahse the Shadows of the Damned soundtrack now at the Grasshopper Manufacture WebStore. But you better hurry, it’s limited to 1,000 copies.
