THQ officially announces Darksiders II

THQ confirmed that Vigil Games had begun work on Darksiders II a few days after the first Darksiders hit store shelves. Now, nearly 18 months later, the publisher has officially announced that Darksiders II will be released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2012.

Darksiders II takes place concurrently with the first game, this time following Death during Earth’s final hours. While searching for War in the midst of the Apocalypse, Death will encounter “a dramatically larger world […] as well as bigger and more challenging dungeons and [a] vast array of new enemies and bosses.” In the end, humanity may not need a hero to save them, but Death.

Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President of Core Games, commented: “We have taken the best parts of Darksiders and improved on them with a host of new mechanics and features. You will see great things from this epic game.”

THQ also revealed that Darksiders II will grace the cover of the July issue of Game Informer. Check out the exclusive art from Vigil’s Joe Madureira. It is pretty awesome.

Warp Zoned launches world’s first EPUB video game magazine

Attention Nook, Kindle and other eReader users! You can now read all of our previews, reviews and feature articles on the go. Download issue #1 of the Warp Zoned digital magazine (which we think is the first in the world) now!

Warp Zoned: The eMagazine
Issue #1 – April/May 2011

Download It in EPUB Format Here

In April and May we extensively (some might say obsessively) dug into the new Mortal Kombat reboot from NetherRealm Studios. We also supplied our predictions for the upcoming E3 Expo, checked in with how the licensed game is doing, interviewed the Brand Manager of Dungeons & Dragons, and examined the removal of the OtherOS option from the PS3’s firmware (and its role in the PSN hacking attempts).

We also sliced through the Gears of War 3 beta and reviewed a variety of other new releases including Portal 2, L.A. Noire, The 3rd Birthday, Shift 2: Unleashed, Yakuza 4 and Pokemon Black/White. We hope you enjoy the first issue of Warp Zoned: The eMagazine and we’ll see you at the end of June for issue #2.

Catwoman slinks into Batman: Arkham City as a playable character

We all knew that Catwoman would be appearing in this Fall’s Batman: Arkham City, but Rocksteady has now told GameSpot that the femme fatale feline-phile will also be a playable character in the game’s single-player story.

As you might expect from Selina Kyle, her attacks are more acrobatic and graceful than Batman’s. She’ll wield her trademark whip and a bolo for ranged attacks as well as razor sharp claws on her gloves.

Check it all out in the trailer above. And remember, today’s word of the day is “slinky.” You’ll understand why after you watch the video.

Aliens: Colonial Marines dated Spring 2012

The license seems to have been in limbo forever, but Sega and Gearbox are proud to announce that Aliens: Colonial Marines will be coming to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 next Spring, 2012. Gearbox President Randy Pitchford called the game a “dream project” for the studio, while Senior VP Gary Knight of Sega said, “Aliens: Colonial Marines will be THE definitive Aliens gaming experience.”

The latest stab at video games by the Alien franchise hopes to be a full fledged “new chapter” in the universe, down to the weapons used by the characters. Colonial Marines will also bring you to familiar territory of LV-426 and Hadley’s Hope when it releases next year.

Sega will bring Aliens: Colonial Marines to next week’s E3 Expo and has unveiled a new teaser trailer, which you can find after the break. (more…)
