Modern Warfare 3 teaser continues the war in Am3rica
Looks like Infinity Ward isn’t trying to hide it anymore. In addition to the tons of juicy details we got earlier today on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s singleplayer and multiplayer modes, the teaser trailer above has been released for the game. It shows a large digital layout of New York city in the vintage Modern Warfare green while Stalker 1-0 and Stalker 1-1 relay communications about the Brooklyn Bridge. At the end, you can hear Vladimir Makarov say something which I seriously hope gets translated soon.
The Call of Duty YouTube channel has been remade with Modern Warfare 3 logos and a whole series of teasers is now available for your viewing pleasure.
It’s pretty ironic that another big game this year made a huge deal about taking the fight to New York (Crysis 2, anyone?). It’ll be interesting to see who pulled off the better rendition or just the better game, but I think the whole “the war comes home” theme FPS games have been taking ever since Turning Point: Fall of Liberty needs to be laid to rest. At least most devs moved away from the whole apocalyptic thing (Rage notwithstanding).

A Game of Thrones: Genesis official site launches
Fans of the fantasy soap opera happening in Westeros, rejoice! The official site for A Game of Thrones: Genesis has opened its doors. There’s a plethora of terrific stuff on this site, my favorite being the “Houses” section that details where each house is from, gives a description of their background, and gives details on both their “special units” and “house bonuses.” Wow. There’s also news, tons of media, a forum, a community section (which takes you into the world of the fans of the entire series and not just the game), and a shop, which just takes you to a page that says “work in progress.”
Watching the HBO miniseries but haven’t read the books yet? Fear not, hipsters – we’ve got you covered. Buy this super cheap and mega awesome miniseries tie-in cover box set for $19.78. No, seriously. Do it. Read more books, people. Or at least give the authors some money. (You should also buy this Walking Dead Compendium – you’re the same people who haven’t read the comics yet but love the show. Tsk, tsk!)

Daily Scoop: May 13, 2011 – ZOMG Friday the 13th!
It’s Friday the 13th, which means I’m cringing in remembrance of that horrible NES game. I can remember playing it when I was in elementary school and getting so frustrated at how horrendous it was. If you’ve never had the chance to play it, Angry Video Game Nerd actually sums it up quite nicely.
Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is CTA Digital’s Vertical Induction Charger for 3 PS3 Controllers. It’s $30.99 down from $49.99, but I have to admit, my controllers don’t need much charging lately, what with the state of the PSN these days. Sigh…
But on to better news! Kmart is having a great in-store deal on L.A. Noire – get a $20 gaming coupon and get any game $19.99 or under for free! This is a great deal for anyone looking to pick the game up in-store – hell, this is a great deal even if you don’t usually pick up games in-store. A ton of their games recently dropped in price, so check out that list ahead of time to see if there’s anything you want.
That’s all, folks! I’ll be playing Brink all weekend now that I finally finished Pokemon Black Version. How about you? :)

Deathsmiles IIX dated May 17 for Xbox 360 Games on Demand
We first got word a couple months back that Deathsmiles IIX would be coming to North America on Xbox 360, we just didn’t know when or how. Now it’s official – Cave’s adorable, yet tight controlling, lolita-themed shoot-em-up will be coming to Xbox 360 Games on Demand on May 17. The game will be in its original Japanese and will cost $29.99. It will also be the first Games on Demand title to bypass retail stores and go straight to the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Producer Makoto Asada stated that Microsoft came to them to bring the game over, and that Cave will be giving this platform a try for exporting some of their other Japan-only games. This would be similar to PlayStation’s PSOne Classics, and you can expect more quirky shooters from Japan making their way onto Games on Demand.
You can visit Cave’s official Facebook page here.
Mortal Kombat decapitates the competition in April NPD report
It’s no secret that the video game community has responded to NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat reboot with a resounding “I love it.” But like Shao Kahn taunting a clearly inferior kombatant, the game also emerged on top of The NPD Group’s April 2011 sales report. And according to a tweet from Kombat creator Ed Boon, the game sold over 1,000,000 copies during the month. Flawless victory indeed.
April 19’s other big release, Portal 2, teleported its way to the top of the list with a strong #2 showing. Of course, it’s important to point out that a good portion of Portal 2’s sales were digital downloads through Steam, which isn’t counted by the NPD.
But the biggest surprise from last month’s top ten might be the absence of Sony’s SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs. The online shooter was also released on April 19th, one day before hackers took down the PSN. The service has yet to return and its offline status definitely contributed to SOCOM 4’s lackluster sales.
Hit the jump for the complete top ten of April’s bestselling games. (more…)
This means war! Modern Warfare 3’s story, multiplayer, more leaked
WARNING! SPOILERS BELOW!
Do you hear that sound? It’s the sound of a dozen Activision executives crying their eyes out over the massive amount of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 information that leaked onto the Internet this morning.
Kotaku was the lucky recipient of this intel, which includes details on the game’s story, multiplayer modes & maps, concept art, and a whole lot more.
Kotaku’s sources confirm the developer triple team of Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software are hard at work on Modern Warfare 3. The three teams have come together to create a globe-hopping game that follows up directly from the end of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. All of the loose story threads and the fates of every major character from the first two games will be wrapped up in MW3 along with introducing two new Delta Force operatives: “Frost” and “Sandman.”
This video is a travelogue of all the places you’ll go in Modern Warfare 3 and “how you’ll kill.” Opening with a Russian invasion of New York City, the two-minute video shows the Stock Exchange under siege, a battle on the Hudson River, a terrorist attack in London, fighting in Berlin, spelunking in Parisian sewers and the aftermath of an attack by a Somali warlord. The game’s final fight is said to take place in Dubai.
As far as multiplayer modes go, the well-loved Spec Ops mode returns in based “Mission” and “Survival” (AKA Horde) flavors.
Finally (and perhaps most importantly), Kotaku was able to nail down a release date for Modern Warfare 3: November 8, 2011.

GTTV reveal shows first video, screenshots of Starhawk
The latest “worst kept secret in gaming” debuted on GameTrailers TV last night as LightBox Interactive wowed gamers with Starhawk for the PS3. Rumors of the Warhawk sequel first emerged back in 2009, so it’s safe to say that Lightbox has been working on Starhawk for a long time.
As expected, Starhawk looks an awful lot like Warhawk in space, specifically a planet teeming with “Rift Energy” called The Frontier. Rift Energy is a hugely powerful substance, but it is also highly toxic and can infect you with a mysterious disease if you’re careful. This backstory leads into a battle between the “Rift Miners” and “The Outcasts” over Rift Energy that features futuristic weaponry and transforming fighter jets. You might say there’s more than meets the eye to the game’s setting.
The GTTV reveal was light on the details (presumably we’ll learn more at E3 next month), but we do we have the first five screenshots, which you can find after the break. (more…)
Mortal Kombat arcade trilogy kollected on PSN, XBLA
Has the new Mortal Kombat released you from its bloodstained grip yet? Are you ready for more battles against Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn and Goro? How about if they’re fights from the franchise’s “klassic” days?
If you said yes, then prepare to say “Toasty!” all over again as WB Games has announced they’ll be bringing Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade by the end of Summer. Developed by Other Ocean, the game will kollect the arcade editions of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 into one download.
“We are very excited to finally have the first three Mortal Kombat games available in one download package for long-time and new fans to play,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “With the release of our 2011 Mortal Kombat, and its return to 2D game play, players have been asking for these classic titles and we are happy to deliver them.”
The Kollection will be available to download for $9.99 (or 40 quarters or 800 Microsoft Points). Or, if you’d prefer to get it for free, a download code will come bundled with PDP’s new Mortal Kombat Klassic Fight Stick. The arcade-style stick will be sold in PS3 and Xbox 360 versions at GameStop (and gamestop.com) for a suggested price of $129.99. It’s a “limited run,” so pre-order it now if you want it.
