Heavy Rain movie announced
David Milch, creator and producer of shows like “NYPD Blue” and “Deadwood”, has signed on to adapt Heavy Rain into a film. Bob Shay and Michael Lynne, who purchased the film rights last May, are set to produce under their Unique Features company, through a deal with Warner Bros. Shay commented “David Milch’s incredible ability to transform intense and complex storylines into gripping, popular drama makes him the perfect partner for us to have on Heavy Rain.” Milch will begin writing the script soon after his team finishes up working on the first season of “Luck,” a new HBO series.
Heavy Rain was notable last year for telling a more mature story than most games are used to, without relying on gratuitous elements like killing 1,000 henchmen over the course of ten hours. From the beginning, creator David Cage stated his aim was to make the rest of the entertainment world take games more seriously. Having big names on the project for the film version, you could argue Cage did just that. Unfortunately, Prince of Persia also had great talent attached to it and was still poorly received. Heavy Rain was one of the most experimental big-budget games over the last few years, so let’s hope this one doesn’t get messed up.

Anarchy Reigns on North America this Fall
One day after its Famitsu premiere, Sega has revealed that Platinum Games’ Max Anarchy will be coming to America as Anarchy Reigns. The PS3 and Xbox 360 brawler is scheduled for a Fall 2011 release.
Platinum Games has promised to turn the beat ’em up on its head with Anarchy Reigns. The game will be built around multiplayer with a boatload of different modes including Tag Team battles and Battle Royal. After looking at the game’s first screenshots (which are available after the break), it would be easy to assume that Anarchy Reigns is a colorized version of the developer’s MadWorld. And seeing as how both games star Jack, a chainsaw-wielding beast of a man, that’s an obvious leap to take. (more…)

Who’s developing games for the NGP?
Who’s developing games for the NGP? Apparently a lot of companies are.
Game Informer has transcribed the list of over 80 companies that plan to develop or publish games for Sony’s Next Generation Portable.
Nearly all of the industry’s big names are represented in the list, however Electronic Arts and THQ are both currently missing in action. I’d imagine these omissions will be rectified by E3.
Check out the complete list of NGP publishers and developers after the break. (more…)

Bethesda outlines and dates 2011 lineup: Brink, Hunted, Rage, Skyrim
Today Bethesda announced its biggest games for 2011, and it’s looking like a pretty solid lineup. Brink, the highly smooth First Person Shooter from Splash Damage blending single player, co-op, and multiplayer will be coming May 17th in the U.S. and May 20th in Europe; the fantasy action game Hunted will release June 1st in the U.S. and June 3rd in Europe; id Software’s highly anticipated Rage will finally land September 13th in the U.S. and September 16th in Europe; and finally, Bethesda Game Studios’ very own The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be launching worldwide on the convenient 11/11/11. All of these titles will be releasing for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, with RAGE still coming to the Mac as well.
I’ve never been a fan of the publisher, but this is definitely a strong year for them. I’ve been following Rage for a long time, and Doom-meets-MotorStorm is something I simply can’t pass up.

Full quality Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer officially released
In what is sure to be much more intense entry than its series’ timely companion (Final Fantasy Type-0) Final Fantasy Versus XIII‘s full-quality trailer shows off some very detailed cinematic scenes as well as some examples of the game’s fighting mechanics. As with Type-0, it is difficult to tell what exactly the battle system will be like, but it looks as though it will be similar to that of Final Fantasy XIII, possibly with more real-time play.
Though I wasn’t a huge fan of Final Fantasy XIII, I may just give Versus XIII a shot. But, shouldn’t it technically be Final Fantasy 15? Anyway, video above.

Final Fantasy Type-0 trailer released, badassity incoming
Okay, so I watched the trailer for the Kingdom Hearts 3DS game earlier this morning, as well as the Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer… but I have to say, this Final Fantasy Type-0 preview may just embody a lot of what the latest Final Fantasy games have been missing.
It looks as though a more traditional “RPG” atmosphere returns in Type-0, with castles, heroes equipped with swords, boxy-shaped mechs, and… dare I say it… a dragon?! It is hard to tell – as always – what the battle system will exactly be, but it seems that abilities can be assigned to buttons, possibly making Type-0 more of an action-RPG.
Though most of the portable Final Fantasy excursions seem to become a general flop, Type-0 looks to have quite a bit of promise. As old advertisements would say: “But don’t take my word for it!” Check out the trailer up above.

Uncharted, Killzone, LBP, Call of Duty, more lead NGP game lineup
Video cameras were strictly prohibited at Sony’s PlayStation Meeting 2011 event this morning, but you can check out the wild “Next Generation Portable Conecpt” video above.
But if you’re looking for something a little more game-related, how about this list of titles Sony (and various third parties) has in development for the NGP:
- Broken
- Call of Duty
- Gravity Daze
- Hot Shots Golf
- Hustle Kings
- Killzone
- Little Deviants
- LittleBigPlanet
- Reality Fighters
- Resistance
- Smart As
- Uncharted
- Wipeout
Wow. Hopefully video from the event will surface soon.
