Mad Catz returning to Gears of War accessory line
Before Gears of War became the sensation it is today, our favorite third party accessory manufacturer Mad Catz teamed up with Epic Games to release a series of faceplates, controller skins, and other goodies to celebrate its launch. This partnership continued on with Gears of War 2 and today Mad Catz announced a similar deal for the third game in the franchise, Gears of War 3. Due out this fall, the game will launch with a line of specially branded controllers (not just skins), headphones and other peripherals to celebrate the game. Darren Richardson of Mad Catz said: “Our Gears of War agreement is consistent with our strategies to align Mad Catz with the industry’s most popular and anticipated game titles and to develop and globally distribute high-value products that enhance the gaming experience. Gears of War is a marquee relationship for Mad Catz and helps us further grow and diversify our industry-leading portfolio of branded videogame accessories.”
Mad Catz has previously partnered with Activision to deliver a set of Call of Duty accessories which have been pretty decent. Here’s hoping they rock it with Gears 3 as well.
Note: Mad Catz has not, unfortunately, announced shooters or tumblers as pictured above as accessories, but it would be awesome if they did.

Killzone 3 single player and co-op demo coming February 8th (or 15th)
Okay, so you’ll be able to check out Killzone 3 multiplayer in a public beta starting February 2nd. Not a multiplayer fan? Good news, because a single player demo for the game will be released on the PlayStation Store on February 8th for PlayStation Plus subscribers in North America and a day later in Europe. Non-Plus members can download the demo a week later on February 15th in North America and, yep, a day later in Europe. The demo showcases the “Icy Incursion” mission about halfway through the campaign and will be available in 3D or 2D downloads, and the latter will allow for split-screen co-op.
With a good amount of the game releasing before its February 22, 2011 launch date, players will have plenty to experiment with in making their final decision on purchasing the game. It’s as good as got over here, but I’m just glad I’m getting a lot to satiate my hunger for the next Killzone.

Want to get some action? Check out Platinum Games’ latest!
Platinum Games, the company behind last year’s sleeper hit Bayonetta and the incredibly fun, over-the-top Vanquish are working on a new game. Platinum’s Max Anarchy will be published by Sega. The game does not yet have a street date, but is described to be “Massively Multiplayer Melee Fighting Action Fighting,” supposedly worlds different than MMO Shooters (like Resistance 2) or MMORPGs (like World of Warcraft).
One can guess that the Max Anarchy fighting style may end up similar to Nintendo’s Smash Bros. series, only in the sense that it sounds to be a “beat-’em-up” style game. The game hasn’t been reported as a 2D fighting game, so obviously massively online play will not be limiting.
Adriasang had this to add about the Famitsu report: “The magazine has just one gameplay screenshot. This shows a character raising a foe up with a chain saw as another foe, this one hooded and wearing a hockey mask, approaches with what looks like a torch as a weapon.”
In addition to these two vague descriptions, it has been confirmed that Jack from Sega’s Wii game MadWorld will also be a playable character, though in Max Anarchy, he will be shown in full color rather than MadWorld’s black and white atmospheric limitations.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked hitting 3DS this summer
Released back in the summer of 2009 for the original DS, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor was a unique hybrid of strategy RPG and the classic, challenging turn-based battles the Megaten franchise is known for. Two years later, an enhanced version of the game is coming for the Nintendo 3DS, dubbed Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked. In Atlus tradition, SMTDSOC (if you’re nasty) is not just a cheap cash-in – it also features improved visuals to take advantage of the 3DS capabilities, fully voiced cutscenes, and most importantly, an eighth day of being quarantined inside Tokyo while demons roam free. Otherwise, you get the same great game with the usual demonic tomfoolery and of course, fusing!
For those who don’t know of this interesting title, here’s the original Devil Survivor trailer – the official Overclocked site can be found here, but as of now, there’s nothing to see – so this’ll have to do.

Knights Contract goes gold, coming 2/22/11
Announced back in May, Namco Bandai’s take on medieval Europe, Knights Contract, is finished and will be releasing on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 22nd. This action-adventure title takes place in an alternate 17th century, focusing on Heinrich, an immortal executioner, and Gretchen, a witch he killed who now has him under contract to defeat the maniacal Dr. Faust (awesome reference), the one who ordered her death. Players will need to utilize Heinrich’s scythe and Gretchen’s magic simultaneously to overcome their enemies and restore order to the land. I personally don’t know much about the game, but the art style looks fantastic and if the gameplay realizes its potential, it could be a nice little hit for Namco.
New Federal legislation on the horizon for violent video game warning label
Representative Joe Baca of California reintroduced his failed game warning label bill from 2009 into the House of Representatives yesterday. The bill, identical to its past incarnation, suggests mandating that all games rated T for Teen and higher to display a label stating “WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior.” The original never resurfaced once it was sent to a sub-committee.
While the recent Supreme Court hearing on California’s violent video game law certainly stirred up many gamers, this particular legislation appears to have had little weight since its inception. Certainly the message that violent video games are correlated to aggressive behavior is horribly misleading, at least as a matter of academic consensus.
