Inti Creates will bring Blaster Master Zero to 3DS eShop in Spring 2017

Blaster Master is a beloved side-scroller from the Nintendo Entertainment System’s heyday… which makes it a perfect reclamation project for the retro gaming experts at Inti Creates. The Japanese developer announced they’ve acquired the rights to the Blaster Master franchise and will release Blaster Master Zero for the 3DS eShop in Srping 2017.

Inti Creates is probably best known for producing Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10, so creating a decades-later sequel to an 8-bit classic is definitely in their wheelhouse. The developer wants to create “a new 8-bit experience” for Master Blaster Zero designed especially for a modern platform that also honors the past:

Using the original Blaster Master game as a base, we are setting out to create a fully 8-bit experience in a way that both hearkens back to the golden age of the NES and uses the current generation hardware to optimize and power up the game for the players of today. This of course includes new areas and bosses, and new gameplay elements such as extra sub-weapons, improved gameplay when battling outside of your SOPHIA 3rd tank, a more robust scenario, refined and expanded exploration mechanics, and more.

Head over to Inti Creates’s official website now to check out a huge batch of new screenshots and to read their full statement.

Final mini-trailers for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard promise a new full trailer in early December

residentevil7-header

Capcom’s series of mini-trailers for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has come to an end with “Shadow” and “Aunt Rhody,” both of which are as mysterious as the preceding eight.

A fight with a creature that strongly resembles a Regenerator and an almost face-to-face meeting with the creepy Aunt Rhody eventually give way to a promise from Capcom that the third “Tape” trailer will be released in early December. Tape #1, “Desolation,” was our first look into the world of Resident Evil 7 back in June. While Tape #2, “The Bakers,” introduced us to a family of cannibals that might be scarier than Leatherface and his kinfolk.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on January 24. You can find the “Shadow” and “Aunt Rhody” mini-trailers after the break. (more…)

Zelda: Twilight Princess HD developer Tantalus is working on a game for Nintendo Switch

nintendoswitch-header

After using an in-house team to produce The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD in 2013, Nintendo published the Tantalus-developed The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD to rave reviews earlier this year. Today, the CEO of the Australian developer confirmed they’re also working on at least one game for the Nintendo Switch.

Speaking to Maxi-Geek, CEO Tom Crago had this to say about their Switch plans:

I can confirm that we’re working on Switch, and have been for some time. Our titles haven’t been announced as yet, but keep an eye out for more news soon.

Tantalus has worked with a number of publishers over the years, and it’s unknown if the developer is currently working with Nintendo on another remaster. However, Crego also said their relationship with Nintendo is “stronger than ever,” and even encouraged fans to flood their Facebook page with games they’d like to see remade for the Switch.

Akuma is coming to Street Fighter V in 2017

Capcom has been adding new characters to Street Fighter V since its launch in February, and Season 1 concluded a few months ago with the launch of Urien. But during the conclusion of the Capcom Cup North America Finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds last night, the publisher kicked off Season 2 with a huge fan favorite… Akuma.

Akuma has always been a mysterious character, and the short teaser embedded above is all we have to go on right now. However, Game Informer discovered something interesting about the kanji emblazoned on Akuma’s costume:

One curious thing to note: The symbol on Akuma’s back this time around is not the traditional “Heaven” Kanji, but the one for “god” over the one for “man” – the same combination that appeared when he transformed into his ultimate form, Shin Akuma, in Capcom Vs. SNK 2. This could hint at what his abilities in Street Fighter V might be.

Akuma will be available to download sometime in 2017, but if you plan to attend the 2016 PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, you’ll be able to test out the character in Capcom’s Booth on December 3rd and 4th.

Blizzard’s Overwatch League is coming in 2017 and it’s patterned after pro sports leagues

Blizzard wants to take esports to the next level with the Overwatch League, a new esports organization that will be patterned after existing professional sports leagues like the NFL and NBA. The Overwatch League will begin play in 2017, but first, Blizzard will invite the world’s best players to a combine to test their skills:

The inaugural season of the Overwatch League will begin in 2017. At the start of the season, Blizzard will host a combine, where eligible players who have previously distinguished themselves in competition will be invited to try out for teams. Players at the combine will be evaluated across a range of tests, giving teams the opportunity to sign those who best round out their rosters. Anyone picked up by a team during the signing period will be guaranteed a contract that includes a baseline minimum salary and benefits package.

In addition to holding tryouts, each team in the Overwatch League will be based in a city or region to further tap into support from local fans. Who knows? Maybe in 108 years some wild-eyed old man from Chicago will be tearing up over his city’s first Overwatch League Championship in a generation.

Blizzard will reveal more about the Overwatch League in the coming months, but for now, interested fans are encouraged to visit OverwatchLeague.com to learn more.
