Bethesda will apologize for Fallout 76’s rough launch by gifting all players the Fallout Classic Collection

It’s no secret that Fallout 76 didn’t have a very smooth launch, and players have had to endure a wide variety of technical issues since the game’s release on November 14.

To apologize to fans for this less than ideal situation, Bethesda has announced that all players who login to Fallout 76 on any platform in 2018 will receive a free copy of the Fallout Classic Collection in 2019:

The Fallout Classic Collection includes the first three games in the franchise (1997’s Fallout, 1998’s Fallout 2, and 2001’s Fallout Tactics) and is currently available for the PC.

20th Century Fox is teasing images from Alien: Isolation’s comic sequel

Alien: Isolation, Sega and Creative Assembly’s stealth-based interquel set between Alien and Aliens, was a huge hit with fans when it launched back in 2014. The developer even batted around a few sequel ideas, but sadly, nothing ever came to fruition.

However, that all changes in 2019… as long as you’re willing to pick up a comic book.

Dark Horse Comics will publish the first issue of Aliens: Resistance in January, and it reveals the next chapter in Amanda Ripley’s fight against Weyland-Yutani’s attempt to weaponize the Xenomorphs. Yesterday, we got a glimpse at the first images from this project as the Alien Anthology Instagram account began posting concept art from “A 6-Part Dossier Exposing the Secret History of Weyland-Yutani.”

Promising that “The Alien Universe Expands” in 2019, and written in an in-universe style, the “Dossier” depicts a Company plan to study the aftermath of a colony seeded with facehuggers:

A 6-Part Dossier Exposing the Secret History of Weyland-Yutani
Day 1: Arrived at the facility. Weyland-Yutani has poured massive resources into this orbital facility. I’ve come to investigate rumors about accidents in a secret research program. (1 of 6)

Day 2: The facility is hiding a terrible secret. Highly aggressive mega-parasites with corrosive blood. They’re breeding them, using them for research. (2 of 6)

Day 3: Breeding program is a house of horrors. They’re torturing and killing people, using them as hosts for the larvae. Where did these people come from? (3 of 6)

Day 4: The experiments aren’t just in the lab. Company is sending the larvae somewhere. They’re using their own private military to move them. (4 of 6)

Day 5: It’s worse than I thought. They are dropping these payloads on the planet below. What is the company’s aim? (5 of 6)

Day 6: It’s a nightmare. They have infested and destroyed the Weyland-Yutani colony below. Killing all of the facility’s personnel. We have to expose this. I know they’ll try to discredit me. Or worse. (6 of 6)

20th Century Fox’s FoxNext Games publishing label plans to release a new Alien shooter in 2019, but it’s unknown if it’ll link up with Aliens: Resistance in any way. Right now, about all we know is that the game is in development at Cold Iron Studios, and that it might be known as Alien: Blackout.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was the best-selling game of November 2018

It took an extra month, but Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally perched atop the NPD’s monthly best-seller list.

According to the tracking firm (as reported by GamesIndustry.biz), Rockstar’s open world epic was November’s best-selling game, topping such contenders as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (#2), Battlefield V (#3), and Fallout 76 (#4). Other new releases in the top ten include Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu (#4), Pokemon: Let’s Go Eevee (#5), and Spyro Reignited Trilogy (#5).

But the most important statistic in the NPD’s November report was on the hardware side of things, as the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One all sold over 1.3 million consoles. It’s the first time ever that three console platforms each sold more than a million units in a calendar month. All told, US consumers purchased more than $3.9 billion worth of video game hardware in November.

A complete look at The NPD Group’s list of the best-selling games from last month can be found after the break. (more…)

Fragile Equilibrium will be released for the PC and Xbox One on December 21

MAGIC Spell Studios, an indie publisher who distributes projects created by students at the Rochester Institute of Technology, has announced that Fragile Equilibrium will be available to download for the PC (through the Windows Store and Itch.io) and Xbox One this Friday, December 21.

Fragile Equilibrium is a side-scrolling shooter that also serves as a metaphor for a chaotic life, as players will need to rebuild the world around them in addition to moving forward against the enemies in front of them:

Fragile Equilibrium is a game about the imperfection and impermanence of life. It is a reflection on transience, a balancing act between progress and regrowth, a reminder to find beauty in decay and inevitable destruction. Using old-school ‘shmup’ mechanics and forms, Fragile Equilibrium invites the player to explore a world of quick actions, forced decisions, and subtle strategy: but with each decision, the player falls ever out of balance.

As a work of art, Fragile Equilibrium is a thinly veiled allegory for dealing with depression and anxiety: it is intended specifically to create in the player the sense of being ‘squeezed’, a slowly building pressure and feeling of being trapped, and to lead players to reflect on balancing their forward progress with a constant need to reconsider, rebuild, and refocus on internally facing (i.e. inward facing) issues and obstacles. It challenges players to find a Fragile Equilibrium in their own play, as a metaphor for conveying issues of instability.

Fragile Equilibrium will also be released through Steam in January, and it’ll be available as a free download on all platforms.

Kage, an even more evil version of Evil Ryu, is the first downloadable character from Street Fighter V’s Season 4

The 2018 Capcom Pro Tour season came to a close this weekend with the crowning of a new champion at the Capcom Cup. Tsunehiro “gachikun” Kanamori won the Street Fighter V tournament (and the $250,000 prize), but Capcom also used the opportunity to unveil the first new character from the game’s Season 4 expansion.

Kage is described as “The Embodiment of the Satsui,” and serves as an even more evil mirror to Ryu than the fighter’s “Evil Ryu” alterego:

The Satsui no Hado is a dark force tied to the more sinister aspects of the human soul, including the hunger to survive, destroy, and conquer. Those who learn to control it become nearly unstoppable, but at the cost of their humanity. Akuma is one of these beings. In the past, Ryu was constantly struggling with keeping the Satsui no Hado at bay. If he was hypothetically unable to control it, Evil Ryu would manifest and bring a dark obsession to the otherwise peaceful Ryu. However, after the events of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Ryu was able to overcome the Satsui no Hado’s temptation to ensure Evil Ryu would never see the light.

However, the Satsui no Hado living within Ryu became sentient and would rise as the entity known as Kage, meaning “shadow” in Japanese. Kage lives to prove Ryu is nothing without him and seeks to challenge Akuma and Sagat, two of Ryu’s most notorious rivals. Will Ryu succumb to Kage’s schemes?

According to the Capcom-Unity blog, Kage will bring “his own twist” to Ryu’s moveset:

V-Skill: Senha Kassatsu – Kage gathers energy into his fist and lunges forward to punch the opponent. Senha Kassatsu has armor and can be charged for a more devastating blow.

V-Trigger I: Taigyaku Mudo – In this two-bar V-Trigger, Kage unlocks Ashura Senku, a teleport move that is performed by pressing HP+HK. Ashura Senku can be used on the ground and in the air as an air dash, which opens up multiple mix-up options and flashy combos. Taigyaku Mudo also improves Kage’s V-Skill so that he can now combo into it while the fully charged version will crumple the opponent.

V-Trigger II: Rikudo Osatsu – In this three-bar V-Trigger, Kage unlocks Misogi, a move that sends him into the skies before crashing down on the opponent by pressing HP+HK. Misogi can be cancelled into by a number of normal and specials, including blocked sweeps, which makes it a pressure monster.

Critical Arts: Metsu Shoryuken – Ryu’s iconic super from previous games lets everyone know that Kage is indeed a part of Ryu. Kage does a devastating upper cut that ends in a flash full of red.

Kage is now available to download for Street Fighter V on the PC and PS4. Unlike previous seasons, Capcom won’t offer an all-you-can-eat Season Pass option for Season 4. Instead, Kage can be purchased individually for $5.99 or with 100,000 Fight Money.

Two new trailers featuring the character can be found after the break. (more…)
