Xbox Store Today: Tony Hawk 5 for Xbox 360, Ark: Survival Evolved, King’s Quest Ep 2, more

tonyhawksproskater5

After getting delayed earlier this Fall, Activision’s Xbox 360 rendition of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is finally ready for release. The game, which resurrects the classic Pro Skater style of play for a new generation, is available to download now through the Xbox Games Store.

Also available this week is a Game Preview of Ark: Survival Evolved, Studio Wildcard’s survival game that includes more than 60 types of dinosaurs (right now) and two-player splitscreen support (eventually). The full game will be available sometime in June 2016, but if the idea of taming a herd of dinosaurs to protect your base from a different herd of dinosaurs appeals to you, you can purchase it now. A free demo is also available.

Finally this week, The Odd Gentlemen will release King’s Quest: Rubble Without A Cause, the second episode in their King’s Quest reboot, for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Young King Graham will have to battle a gaggle of goblins if he wants to rescue his people and save his kingdom.

More information about all of these games (and another new release or two) can be found after the break. (more…)

Daily Scoop: December 16, 2015 – Another day, another deal

I’m at that sweet spot in the games I’m playing where I’ve been grinding long enough that, after weeks of not getting any Trophies, I’m knocking over a bunch at one time. It’s a great feeling! I fondly think about getting the Platinum in Persona 4, but I just don’t think that’s going to happen. A girl can dream…

Anyway, let’s talk about deals! There are some decent sales at the Humble Store right now. The Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1-3 Collection is $39.99, Bully is $3.74, and Magicka 2 is $12.49, among many others.

The Midweek Madness deal at Steam is early access to Stranded Deep, which you can pick up for $11.99. And I’m super excited to announce that Final Fantasy VI is on sale for $14.39.

There are only three t-shirts today, but they’re all fantastic! (more…)

Cloud now available to download in Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U; Bayonetta and Corrin confirmed for February 2016

Nintendo uploaded a “Final Video Presentation” for Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U last night, giving gamers their first look at the final two challengers that’ll approach the Smash arena in 2016.

The video opens with a look at Corrin, a swordfighter from Fire Emblem Fates who will be available to download in February 2016. Like Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, and The Villager, players will be able to choose from a male or female version of the character. And according to Nintendo, Corrin also “has the blood of a dragon in his veins,” allowing him/her to pull off some truly amazing attacks.

Cloud Strife also gets the superstar treatment if you jump ahead to 7:55 in the video embedded above. Best of all, the Final Fantasy VII character is now available to download through the Nintendo eShop for $5.99 on the Wii U, $5.99 on the 3DS, or $6.99 on both. Featuring two costume options, players will even be able to perform Cloud’s famous Limit Break attack, as well as a Materia Summons attack on his Midgar stage.

But the biggest surprise of the presentation can be viewed at 18 minutes in, when Nintendo announced that Bayonetta received the most votes in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. To thank all the fans who voted, the titular star of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will be added to the Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U roster in February 2016, alongside a special Umbra Clock Tower stage.

Finally, Amiibo fans will be pleased to learn that figures for Ryu, R.O.B. (Famicom Style), and Roy will be available in stores on March 18, 2016. And don’t worry, Nintendo has every intention of creating Amiibo figures for Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta. More information on the latter trio will be announced at a later date.

TowerFall Ascension for Vita, Tony Hawk 5 for PS3, more added to PS Store

tonyhawksproskater5

After skating his way onto the PS4 earlier this year, Tony Hawk returns to the PS3 with today’s PlayStation Store launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. But skateboarding’s biggest star isn’t the only familiar face appearing in a new place today…

  • TowerFall Ascension, Matt Thorson’s manic multiplayer archery battler, is now available to download for the PS Vita. It’s a Cross-Buy freebie if you already own the PS4 version, and it’s also compatible with the PlayStation TV if you don’t always want to be on the go.
  • PaRappa the Rapper 2 is the latest PS2-On-PS4 release from Sony, so now your rapping skills can earn you a few Trophies in addition to bragging rights.
  • Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions isn’t available on a new platform today, but the best Spider-Man game in years can now be downloaded for the PS3 through the PlayStation Store.

Finally this week, Sierra and The Odd Gentlemen have released Rubble Without A Cause, the second episode of their King’s Quest reboot, for the PS4 and PS3.

A complete look at this week’s new releases can be found after the break and a rundown of this week’s new game add-ons and discounts can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

Hideo Kojima officially leaves Konami to start his own studio and possibly develop a PlayStation-exclusive title

hideokojimaA mountain of evidence has accumulated over the last six months about Hideo Kojima’s pending split from Konami, and now it looks like it’s official.

According to the Nikkei (via Wired), Japan’s largest financial newspaper, Kojima finally left Konami on December 15. The newspaper also learned that the veteran developer plans to start his own studio with several of his colleagues from Kojima Productions. The name of Kojima’s next venture is currently under wraps, but the Nikkei report said the team is in “final negotiations” to produce a game for Sony’s PlayStation platform (presumably the PS4). Though it’s important to note that this doesn’t rule out a PC or Xbox One release for Kojima’s next game.

Kojima began his illustrious career at Konami in the mid 80s, quickly rising to a lead developer on the original Metal Gear. Over the next three decades, he directed nearly a dozen sequels, as well as branching out to other projects like Zone of the Enders, Snatcher, and Policenauts. Kojima was set to produce his next side project, Silent Hills, alongside film director Guillermo Del Toro, but it was canceled by Konami in the Spring.

We don’t know what Kojima has planned for his new studio, but I’m sure many would like to see him continue the ideas found in Silent Hills in some form.

Daily Scoop: December 15, 2015 – So many shirts!

Tonight I think we’re going to see the latest movie in the Hunger Games series, since we’re a bit behind on films. But I won’t lie – I think I’d rather go home and play more Fallout 4. It’s a problem, and I’m acknowledging it, but I still want to do it.

You don’t have much time left to get the Total War Encore at the Humble Weekly Bundle. Pay what you want for Medieval II: Total War Collection, Viking: Battle for Asgard, Shogun: Total War Collection, and a bunch of in-game resources and books. Beat the average to unlock Total War: Arena Premium Spartan Hoplite Unit, Medieval: Total War Collection, Empire: Total War Collection, Total War: Shogun 2 Collection, and Napoleon: Total War Collection, as well as 66% Total War: Attila in the Humble Store. But wait – there’s more! Pay $15 or more to unlock Total War: Rome II Emperor Edition and a bunch of campaign packs. Finally, pay $30 or more to unlock a Humble Total War Bundle t-shirt!

Over at Steam, the Midweek Madness is Grand Theft Auto V, which is on sale for $35.99. The Daily Deal is the King Arthur Collection (March 2012), which is just $7.49. It includes King Arthur – The Role-playing Wargame, King Arthur II: Dead Legions, and King Arthur: Fallen Champions, among others.

There are a ton of t-shirts today. Hit the jump to check them out! (more…)

Otherside Entertainment officially announces System Shock 3

systemshock-header

It’s hard to get too excited over the official announcement for Otherside’s System Shock 3 project after “hackers” outed the game a week ago. But any news is good news, and here’s what we know now that the game is officially in the works:

  • Paul Neurath, a lead developer on System Shock and System Shock 2, is a key member of the Otherside team.
  • Nate Wells, a senior artist on System Shock 2, will return for the three-quel.
  • Robb Waters, the lead concept artist on both System Shock games, will create a “next generation” look for antagonist AI SHODAN.
  • Speaking of SHODAN, Terri Brosius will once again give a voice to the character in System Shock 3.
  • Finally, System Shock 3 is currently “in the early concept stages” and we don’t yet know when it’ll be released or what platforms it’s in development for.

It’s pretty bare bones at the moment, but fans are encouraged to visit OthersideTease.com to learn more about System Shock 3 and to hear a special message from SHODAN herself.
