EA casts a six-week delay on Dragon Age: Inquisition’s release

dragonageinquisition-header

Electronic Arts hit one other game with a delay late last night… Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, unlike Battlefield Hardline, Inquisition has only been pushed back six weeks. Mark Darrah, Inquisition’s Executive Producer, wrote on the Dragon Age Blog that his team at BioWare needs this extra month and a half to “improve the overall experience”:

I’m privileged to be a part of a team that has been working very hard to surpass every measure they’ve set for themselves. That has meant completing huge amounts of game content, fixing bugs both big and small, and improving the overall experience. This last bit of time is about polishing the experience we want you to see. Ensuring that our open spaces are as engaging as possible. Strengthening the emotional impact of the Hero’s choices. And ensuring the experience you get is the best it can be in the platform you choose to play on.

Originally set to launch on October 7, Dragon Age: Inquisition will now be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on November 18.

Nintendo will bring Super Smash Bros. For 3DS to you at Comic-Con 2014

supersmashbros4-working-header

You gotta hand it to Nintendo, this is pretty neat.

The 2014 San Diego Comic-Con officially kicks off tomorrow and Nintendo wants to get Super Smash Bros. For 3DS in your hands during the convention. Quite literally, actually. If you’re going to be at the SDCC, and you’ve got your smartphone, you can make Nintendo come to you with a 3DS and a copy of Super Smash Bros. For 3DS. All you have to do is follow these four steps:

  1. Snap A Pic – Show us where you are at Comic-Con
  2. Compose A Tweet – Make sure to use #BringMeSmash
  3. Check Your Direct Messages – If selected, you will receive a Direct Message via Twitter, so watch your inbox
  4. Enjoy! Don’t forget to tell your friends!

Obviously, Nintendo will have a limited number of 3DS runners on the show floor, so not everyone will get to play Super Smash Bros. For 3DS. But good luck to all who attempt it and #PlaySomeSmashForMe.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will be released on December 9

laracroftandthetempleofosiris

Speaking to IGN, Square Enix has revealed that Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will be available to download for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on December 9.

Temple of Osiris is a top-down dungeon crawler and a sequel to 2010’s Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Like that game, Temple of Osiris allows multiple players to tackle the tombs together. However, Temple of Osiris is taking Guardian of Light’s two-player mode and upping the number of co-op players to four.

And in case you’re in need of more Lara Croft, don’t forget that Crystal Dynamics is also hard at work on Rise of the Tomb Raider, a sequel to the 2013 franchise reboot. It will be released sometime in 2015.

Visceral’s Battlefield Hardline will now be released in 2015

battlefieldhardline-header

Battlefield Hardline was officially announced just over a month ago, but Electronic Arts doesn’t want to deal with a repeat of Battlefield 4‘s stability issues, so they’ve decided to push the game back a few months. Instead of a Fall 2014 launch as originally planned, Battlefield Hardline will now be released in early 2015.

Writing on the Battlefield Blog, Community Manager Dan “danmotoxx” Mitre also said that the team at Visceral wants to spend some more time on the single-player portion of the game and implement some of the feedback they received during the recently completed beta:

1. Multiplayer Innovation: Coming out of our E3 beta, internal focus tests, and work with our community, we have received a lot of great Multiplayer thinking. We’re going to be adding some new feature ideas direct from the community that will evolve the cops and criminals fantasy into a truly unique Battlefield Multiplayer experience.

2. Single Player Story Depth: In order to ensure our Single Player experience delivers on player expectations, we’re spending more time polishing our core features, as well as adding a few new ones that will support a deeper “crime revenge” story experience.

3. Stability: This has been a focus for our team since day one and we’re going to be using the extra time to continue to optimize the game for a stable launch. We have learned a lot from Battlefield 4, are continuing to learn from our Community Test Environment and will learn more from another Hardline beta. More time allows us to surface issues that the team can attempt to fix prior to launch.

Battlefield Hardline is currently in development for current-generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One), previous-generation consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360), and the PC.

PS Store Today: Walking Dead S2 Ep4, Oddworld: New N Tasty, Entwined, more

walkingdead-season2-header

Welcome to another PlayStation Store weekly update. This week, Telltale Games has released the fourth episode of their second Walking Dead adaptation, The Walking Dead Season 2: Amid the Ruins. It is available to download on the PS3 and the Vita starting today.

Also available today is Oddworld: New N Tasty, the PS4 remake of the PSone classic Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. The world is much more receptive to quirky platformers in 2014 than it was in 1997, so I predict big things for the return of Oddworld. The game is also in development for the PS3 (and the PC and the Xbox One and the Wii U), though no release date has been announced.

But speaking of multiplatform releases, a pair of games from this week’s update are available on both the PS3 and the Vita (though neither are Cross-Buy compatible). Entwined brings its bird/fish flying to the PS3 and the Vita after a successful PS4 launch during the E3 Expo and Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland is a remake of the 2010 PS3 RPG of the same name (sans the Plus).

More details about all of these titles (as well as a few others) can be found after the break. And a full rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Store (don’t forget the PS Store Play pre-order promotion starts today too). (more…)

2014 PS Store Play promotion includes Rogue Legacy, The Swapper, Hohokum, CounterSpy

Sony has announced that their annual indie games promotion, PlayStation Store Play, will begin next week with the release of Rogue Legacy. It will be followed by three more releases throughout the month of August: The Swapper (August 5), Hohokum (August 12), and CounterSpy (August 19). Best of all, every PS Store Play title is Cross-Buy, so all four games will be playable on the PS3, PS4, and Vita.

As in years past, purchasing multiple games will net you a rebate from Sony. If you buy two PS Store Play titles, you’ll receive a code for a $3 credit in September. If you buy three titles, your credit will double to $6. And if you purchase all four games, you’ll receive a $10 credit.

One final announcement… if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you can pre-order any of the PS Store Play titles at a 20% discount. So go play!

Media Molecule showed off a “trippy sequence of colourful nonsense” from their next game

With LittleBigPlanet 3 in the hands of Sumo Digital, Media Molecule has moved on to a super secret PlayStation 4 project that they’re not ready to share yet. However, a recent rendering test resulted in the “trippy sequence of colourful nonsense” you see above. The developers also wanted to let us know that the trailer also include a “familiar face” from their tech demo from the PS4 announcement.

Personally, I think it looks like Fitz and The Tantrums’ “MoneyGrabber” music video..

Whatever it is, let’s hope that Media Molecule plans to announce their first PS4 project soon.
