Daily Scoop: December 19, 2013 – Fez is eating my brain
I’m not sure if I told you guys this yet, but I’ve recently become addicted to the game Fez. It’s an incredible little brain-buster that makes me feel smarter every single time I figure something out in it. It’s elegant, and wistful, and I wish Phil Fish had not quit video games forever. The bottom line is: you should get it because it’s the best.
Speaking of other games you should get, there’s a new list of games on sale at the Humble Store! Papers, Please is still $6.66, Limbo is $2.49, and Legend of Grimrock is $7.49. There’s also a brand new Humble Weekly Sale, which includes the awesome Ultratron! It’s like the Internet knows I just got a new computer.
There are plenty of last-minute deals happening over at Amazon as well. You can get Angry Birds Star Wars for the Nintendo Wii for $19.99, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag for $39.99, and Battlefield 4 for $39.99. Of course, if you want to stay digital, they’ve got great digital deals as well, like the BioShock Triple Pack for $14.99.
And now let’s see about some t-shirts! (more…)

Nintendo Download: Knytt Underground, 3D Streets of Rage, Castlevania, more

Nintendo delighted everyone with the surprise releases of NES Remix and Wii Sports Club: Golf on the Wii U eShop yesterday. And while today’s regular update isn’t quite that astounding, it is pretty good…
The last two “Sega 3D Classics” (for now) have been added to the 3DS eShop. 3D Streets of Rage and 3D Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master will ensure that plenty of punks will be punched in a side-scrolling setting this weekend. More punks can be pounded in the NES-era River City Ransom spinoff Crash ‘n the Boys: Street Challenge, which is also now available through the 3DS eShop. Wii U owners will get a chance to smack some side-scrolling baddies too as Konami has added Castlevania to the Wii U Virtual Console.
In original games this week, there’s Knytt Underground for the Wii U and Banana Bliss: Jungle Puzzles for the 3DS. Knytt Underground is a stylish and moody platformer that previously found a home on the PC, PS3, and Vita. Meanwhile, Banana Bliss is a puzzle game that takes place in the jungle.
More information about all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)
I got a fever and the prescription is Dr. Luigi on Wii U eShop
The Year of Luigi is going to end in a big way as Nintendo has announced that Dr. Luigi will be added to the Wii U eShop on December 31.
Dr. Luigi changes up the traditional Dr. Mario formula with “Operation L,” a new game mode that uses L-shaped pills. But don’t worry, a standard Dr. Mario mode (which still stars Luigi) will also be included. Online and local multiplayer will also be featured in Dr. Luigi as well as a stylus-controlled “Virus Buster” mode.
Dr. Luigi will be priced at $14.99.
Mario Kart 8 adds “Baby” characters and Rosalina
Nintendo released a new trailer for Mario Kart 8 this morning, giving us our first look at a quartet of new racers: Rosalina (from Super Mario Galaxy), Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, and Baby Daisy.
The two-minute trailer also showcases a few of the new tracks that’ll be featured in the game including an airport, a desert (complete with ruins), and “high in the clouds.”
Mario Kart 8 will be released for the Wii U next Spring.

Wii Sports Club: Golf has been added to Wii U eShop
Your next Wii Sports Club fix is now available to download from the Wii U eShop. Announced during this morning’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Wii Sports Club: Golf is the latest sport to be released, joining the already available Tennis and Bowling.
In addition to a high definition graphical makeover, Nintendo has also added Wii U GamePad support to Wii Sports Club: Golf. By placing the GamePad on the floor, players will be able to see their ball on the tee (or rough or fairway or green or etc.) as they ready their swing with the Wii Remote Plus. Online multiplayer has also been added to the game for the first time.
As with previous Wii Sports Club titles, Wii Sports Club: Golf is available to download for $9.99 or you can purchase a “Day Pass” (for $1.99) to play every Wii Sports Club title for 24 hours. A demo version is also available.
The last two Wii Sports Club games, Wii Sports Club: Boxing and Wii Sports Club: Baseball, will be released soon.

Episode One (and all subsequent chapters) has been priced at $4.99, but you can grab the Season Pass for $14.99, which is a pretty hefty discount.
Also available to download today is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the latest game to chronicle the fight between the Assassins and the Templars (now with pirates!).
More details on both games are available right here:
The Walking Dead: Season 2 – “All That Remains” ($4.99)
Left to fend for herself, Clementine has been forced to learn how to survive in a world gone mad. Many months have passed since the events seen in Season One of The Walking Dead, and Clementine is searching for safety. But what can an ordinary child do to stay alive when the living can be just as bad – and sometimes worse – than the dead? As Clementine, you will be tested by situations and dilemmas that will test your morals and your instinct for survival. Your decisions and actions will change the story around you, in this sequel to 2012’s Game of the Year.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag ($59.99)

NES Remix throws 16 classic games in a blender on Wii U eShop today
After years of uploading their NES catalog to the Virtual Console storefront, Nintendo has decided that a few changes might do these old games good. NES Remix, which is available to download from the Wii U eShop today for $14.99, takes 16 classic NES games and chops them up into WarioWare-style mini-challenges.
For example, relive some of your NES-era favorites like Mario Bros. (knock over as many enemies as you can), Super Mario Bros. (smash the turtle shell to collect 1-Ups on the World 3-1 steps), and Golf (get a hole-in-one).
But NES Remix also embraces the second half of its title with altered NES games that forces Luigi to travel right-to-left in Super Mario Bros., adds a colorful filter to Excitebike, or lets you play as Link in Donkey Kong.
NES Remix includes full Miiverse support and, once again, it’s available to download now from the Wii U eShop for $14.99.
