The Good, The Bad and The Day One DLC
One of the latest controversies in the game industry is “Day One DLC,” an issue brought to the forefront by what some consider to be the debacle that is Mass Effect 3‘s “From Ashes” DLC. Staff writer Andrew Rainnie and Editor-in-Chief John Scalzo go toe-to-toe on this issue, each explaining why they are against or for Day One DLC. They take many different aspects of the argument into account, including game budgets, used game sales, and the issue of cutting material from the disc in a sleazy attempt to get more new game sales. What’s your opinion on this matter? Be sure to leave a comment and let us know who you agree with, and why.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss Review: Treasures Within A Treasure

After last Fall brought us Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, it seems like it’s too soon to enjoy a new Uncharted game. That’s where you’re wrong, jerks! Because SCE’s Bend Studio (with Naughty Dog’s help) has gifted us with the wondrous experience that is Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the PS Vita. Not only does it shimmer almost as much as the PS3 titles have, but the new methods of gameplay make this a refreshing experience both in the realms of Uncharted and in handheld gaming. (more…)

Nexuiz Review: Speed Kills

Tired of bunny-hopping, rocket launcher kiddies in Halo, sawed-off shotgun wall huggers in Gears of War, or cowardly campers in Call of Duty? Then maybe you should consider Nexuiz, an updated return to the old school arena shooter. (more…)
GAME Over: Are British Gaming Stores on Their Last Continue?

Late last week week saw the shocking news that GAME Group, owners of over 1300 GAME and Gamestation stores scattered throughout Europe and Australia, would not be stocking EA’s sci-fi epic Mass Effect 3, set for release on March 9th. While official word from GAME Group’s PR firm Red Consultancy was vague, noting an ambiguous “supply issue,” an internal memo was leaked to Eurogamer. It stated that the problem was apparently more serious, stating that GAME “were committed to only stocking products on which we could get the right credit terms.” Does this mean that GAME Group did not have enough credit with EA to purchase copies of Mass Effect 3? Or has EA made changes to the credit terms that GAME simply finds unacceptable, and are now taking a bold stand? (more…)
Rhythm Heaven Fever Review: Wii Are A Metronome

It’s been a few years since we last visited the world of Rhythm Heaven. Back then, we were only allowed to venture so far in – limited by our tiny screens and the necessity of a pen stylus to play rhythm games. You can put that worry to rest, unless you’re more worried about using the Wiimote for the new Rhythm Heaven Fever. Fever boasts “more than 50 new levels,” though a few of the later levels are just copied and re-skinned from earlier levels to appear different. But playing with the Wiimote makes them all different from the rhythmic minigames that we encountered on the DS. (more…)

There’s a lot of excitement going on at Warp Zoned for the month of March! It looks like Mass Effect 3 is a staff favorite, along with the latest Kid Icarus and Tales games. Warpback: What We Played in February 2012

February was a mix here at Warp Zoned – some of us were delving into old games while others were on their shiny new Vitas, tearing things up and forgetting to do things like eat and sleep. We went everywhere from Silent Hill to Springfield, hanging out with Lightning and the Prince of the Cosmos. Read on to find out more about exactly what we did during this extended leap month. (more…)
Mass Effect 3 Hands-On Preview: Big Damn Heroes

Commander Shepard is coming back to finish the fight! Wait, that’s from another game. Regardless, s/he is returning in the final installment of the epic Mass Effect trilogy, looking to kick Reaper butt, save Earth, and maybe get a little alien snoo-snoo on the side. To help facilitate excitement for the March 6 release, BioWare and Electronic Arts have put out a demo to get fans hungry for the third act of this space opera. Is it more unbridled, space-faring fun? Or will it make you want to punch a reporter in the face? (more…)
