Duke Nukem conquers comic books this July
Do you really need to drop a deuce and you’re all out of reading material? Well, Duke Nukem is coming to the rescue (even if you’re not a hot babe).
The star of Duke Nukem Forever will headline IDW Publishing’s newest comic book series, Duke Nukem: Glorious Bastard, starting in July. The series will be written by Tom Waltz (The A-Team: Shotgun Wedding) and IDW promises it’ll include “all the game’s trademark humor and over-the-top violence.”
It’s currently unknown if feces flinging will make it into the comic book as a representation of the game’s “trademark humor.”
Daily Scoop: April 15, 2011 – Poked to Death
It’s Friday, YAY! This weekend, I plan on playing video games, writing, doing laundry, and hugging my cats until they squeak. If that doesn’t sound like the awesomest weekend ever, then I don’t know what does.
There are lots of great deals today! First up is this amazing XBLA sale that is TODAY ONLY! Get 50% off (that’s just 600 points!) Limbo, Castle Crashers, Shadow Complex, Trials HD, and Monday Night Combat. This is a steal for these games, so hop on this! Toys R Us is also having two great sales right now – the first is Buy 1 Get 1 40% off ALL Wii, PS3 & Xbox 360 Video Games. Yes, that says ALL in all capitals! And the website says that’s 1,128 games. Hot damn! Toys R Us is also having a sale on black and white Wii consoles – they’re $169.99 with free shipping. To polish it all off is today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games, which is THQ’s Dood’s Big Adventure – Udraw for the Wii. It’s $21.99 from $29.99, and no, it doesn’t have Prinny. Sorry!
And, finally, I present to you a t-shirt that I am absolutely going to buy today from Qwertee:
I have officially become obsessed with mash-ups.

Daily Scoop: April 14, 2011 – A Game of Thrones
News Editor Mike Gutierrez and I are heading to a screening of “A Game of Thrones” tonight, and I’m pretty excited. Why? Not because of the upcoming video game, but because I read these books back in 2005 and I can’t remember much from them and I really, really don’t feel like re-reading them, but I think Boromir is going to do just great as Ned Stark. Also, I’m a little concerned about the video game development so far, because – SPOILER ALERT – there really aren’t dragons in the books. At least, not right away. And certainly not gigantic and threatening and village-destroying ones.
Speaking of spoilers and dragons and Boromir, today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is Namco’s Active Life Outdoor Challenge for the Wii. It’s $34.99 down from $49.99, and promises to be “A fun and easy way to get off the couch and get hearts pumping!” That sounds really exciting! It’s sure to train your dragon and prepare you for a grueling, dragon-filled RTS.
I think a few people are going to be excited about today’s t-shirt over at Ript:
Super Sesame Street Fighter! Heyooooo!

Daily Scoop: April 13, 2011 – Raid some tombs
There are a lot of sales happening, as mentioned in yesterday’s Daily Scoop. If I didn’t have such a giant backlog, I would have already snatched up a bunch of games on sale, but that would be a really bad idea right now. I mean, not that I can’t just keep stacking them, but…yeah. Too many games!
Speaking of which, today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is Square Enix’s Tomb Raider Trilogy for the PS3. It’s $10 cheaper today at $29.99, which is a steal for the three games you’re getting – Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary and Tomb Raider: Underworld. If you’re looking to catch up on raiding tombs with your favorite lady, now’s your chance.
Daily t-shirts have been letting me down lately, but today’s Tee Fury at least has controllers in it:
I’m not feeling it, but all that means is that my wallet will live to fight another day.

Daily Scoop: April 12, 2011 – Spring is blooming with sales
OK, so that was a super cheesy headline, but for real, there are tons of sales going on right now. Even the Warp Zoned staff is all over it! Editor-in-Chief John Scalzo told me about the free Copy of Body and Brain Connection with a purchase of Kinect at Gamestop this week (April 10th to 16th), and Podcast Producer Ryan Littlefield was embarrassed to admit he was in Gamestop and saw this amazing sale firsthand. Don’t worry, Ryan. We don’t judge you.
Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is PDP’s Afterglow AP.1 Controller for the PS3. It’s $16.99 down from $24.99, and the sale is for the blue one. It also apparently has “L2 and R2 triggers modeled upon PDP’s popular REAL TRIGGERS add-ons for PS3 controllers.” Hear that, people? REAL TRIGGERS. Yeah.
Amazon’s also running another sale, this one on the 4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect – for a limited time, you can get a $50 promotional credit for purchasing one. Sounds pretty good, considering you can upgrade to a larger hard drive for cheap these days – put that promotional credit towards that, and you’ll be set!

First Mortal Kombat: Legacy episode is now available
It started as Kevin Tancharoen’s longshot pitch to Warner Bros. to allow him to direct a new movie based on the Mortal Kombat franchise. While Warners wasn’t interested in that, they did tap the director to create a series of nine webisodes to fill in the gaps of what transpires before the tournament.
After a long wait, the first episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy is finally available and Tancharoen introduces us to Jax (Michael Jai White), Stryker (Tahmoh Penikett) and Sonya Blade (Jeri Ryan) as they infiltrate a Black Dragon hideout looking for Kano (Darren Shahlavi).
While Legacy is clearly a low budget affar, Tancharoen fills the screen with the same style he displayed in Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. There are also plenty of subtle allusions to future events in the franchise’s canon, so we’re sure to be in for a wild ride.
Machinima will release the second episode featuring the kombatants next week, the same day as the Mortal Kombat reboot launches for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
