Pokemon X/Y sells four million copies in two days

This weekend’s worldwide launch of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y went quite well for Nintendo. It’s the first time a “main series” Pokemon game was simultaneously shipped to stores across the world and, according to Nintendo, over four million copies of the game were sold on Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13.
“The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers is eager to experience the franchise for itself,” said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.
Because the company has never attempted a simultaneous worldwide launch of a Pokemon game before, Nintendo wasn’t able to directly compare it to the sales of previous Pokemon games. But their internal estimates state that X and Y are definitely the fastest-selling 3DS games of all-time and are currently outpacing the sales of Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 by 70%.
That’s not pocket (monster) change.

New Releases: Skylanders Swap Force, Valhalla Knights 3, Zumba World Party, More

Activision’s mega-popular Skylanders series returns to stores today with Skylanders Swap Force, its third new entry in three years. The game will be available for the 3DS, PS3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360. Naturally, a new wave of toys will also be available at your local toy store.
If you’re looking for something a little less Skylanders-y, XSEED is bringing the prison-set action RPG Valhalla Knights 3 to the Vita this Tuesday. It’ll be joined on store shelves by Majesco’s Zumba Fitness World Party (Wii U) and two additional titles from Activision: obstacle course sequel Wipeout: Create & Crash (3DS, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360) and hunting sim Cabela’s African Adventures (PSS, Wii, Xbox 360).
I tell you, the pending launch of two next-generation systems is really messing with the annual Fall gaming rush.
Ganon returns in latest Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds trailer
The big bad of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has revealed himself in the latest trailer and its… drumroll please… because it’s going to legend… wait for it… dary… oh, nevermind, it’s Ganondorf/Ganon. Or rather, a being that bears a remarkable resemblence to the resilient swinish sorcerer.
In this new trailer, Ganon stuffs Princess Zelda into a painting and absconds with her. Link gives chase and eventually stumbles across a portal to “Lorule,” a mirror universe version of Hyrule. There, he meets Hilda, another prnicess. Could we surmise that there’s a mirror universe version of Link out there as well?
We’ll find out on November 22, when The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is officially released for the 3DS.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game will launch alongside film next May
Activision and Beenox have announced a tie-in game that will branch off from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2014. This time around, players will get to control Peter Parker for, what I believe, is the first time ever:
In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, players once again assume the role of the iconic Super Hero in a unique side-story inspired by the feature film but set in its own continuity. Throughout his journey, Spider-Man will encounter a number of new foes as well as some old friends, as he confronts a new threat to his beloved city. The narrative will give Peter Parker, Spider-Man’s nerdy photojournalist persona, a greater role in the spotlight, as he investigates the complicated motivations and unique personalities behind the menagerie of Marvel menaces threatening Manhattan.
As Spidey, players will be able to free-roam through a greatly-enhanced Manhattan cityscape, one set to offer livelier, more engaging opportunities with which to put his sensational skills to use. Central to the expansive depth and detail being poured into The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game is the new “Hero or Menace” system, which incentivizes Super Hero behavior by rewarding the web-slinger’s crime-fighting efforts, and adds consequences for letting criminality fester. Spider-Man’s personal brand of webswinging and up-close-and-personal combat will see a variety of new features as well.
This version of Peter Parker looks like a male model and dates Emma Stone, so I’m not sure we need the “nerdy photojournalist” schtick. The game, which is also titled The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will be released alongside the film and will be available in stores for the 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One sometime in late April or early May.
Unleash your inner 8-year-old with this Pokemon X/Y live action trailer
Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are now available in stores and as digital downloads through the 3DS eShop. If you’re not already playing with your favorite “Pocket Monsters,” might I suggest watching this special live action trailer released by Nintendo UK. It’ll make you feel like a kid again. Unless you’re still a kid. Err… please don’t think that I think Pokemon is only for children.
Happy Pokemon Day everyone!

Nintendo Download: Tennis, Golf, Pokemon X/Y (Saturday), more

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are coming. Not only will they be available on store shelves this Saturday, October 12, but they will also be available to download on day one from the 3DS eShop.
However, if you’d rather know what’s available in this week’s Nintendo Download that you can play today, I’m happy to oblige. Sticking with the 3DS eShop, Nintendo will add Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, a well-liked RPG from Atlus, to their online store today. And skipping over to the Wii U eShop, Golf and Tennis, two Virtual Console titles, are now available to download.
More information on these games, and a few other new releases, can be found after the break. (more…)

Will Zelda: A Link Between Worlds’ Item Shop Really “Transform” the Franchise?

According to the most recent Nintendo Direct presentation, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will, in the words of Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, “transform the way you play Zelda.” After years of following a consistent, popular formula, Nintendo has finally seen the need for progression. The next Zelda game will “buck the mold” of traditional Zelda gameplay with one revolutionary change: items will now be rented from and bought at a shop, rather than found in a dungeon. (more…)
