Nintendo Download: Donkey Kong, Galaga, Splinter Cell: Blacklist (Tuesday), more

Once again, the Virtual Console is home to the highlights of this week’s Nintendo Download. The NES adaptation of Mario’s first adventure, Donkey Kong, has been added to the 3DS eShop. Meanwhile, the NES adaptation of Galaga is now available on the Wii U eShop.
Also available today is a quartet of 3DS title… budget compilation 10-in-1: Arcade Collection, squeaky clean Barbie: Glam and Groom Pups, miniature shooter Heavy Fire: Black Arms 3D, and equestrian sim My Western Horse 3D.
On Tuesday, Wii U owners will be able to download Sam Fisher’s latest adventure, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which is definitely the biggest new release of the week.
More details about all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

New Releases: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Payday 2, DuckTales Remastered, More

The brothers Mario are venturing back into the RPG world with today’s release of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the 3DS.
Tuesday will see the release of a few titles on the complete opposite end of the gaming spectrum including the multiplayer heistfest Payday 2 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) and the latest strategy game in the Europa Universalis series, Europa Universalis IV (PC).
The rest of this week’s new releases all star anthropomorphized animals…
- There’s the PC version of WayForward’s DuckTales Remastered. Downloadable console versions will also be available this week and special retail editions will be available next week.
- There’s the Wii and Wii U port of Angry Birds Trilogy.
- And there’s Phineas and Ferb: Quest For Cool Stuff, which will be available for the 3DS, DS, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360.
I guess, technically, Phineas and Ferb aren’t animals. But they sure are weird looking.

Ubisoft, Hasbro strike deal to bring Monopoly and other board games to next-gen consoles

Get up and go to your game closet. Chances are you’ll have a well-worn copy of at least one of the following board games in there: Monopoly, Scrablle, Trivial Pursuit, Risk, Battleship, and Cranium. What do they all have in common? First of all, they’re all published by Hasbro.
Also, new versions of each game are coming to current-generation and next-generation consoles courtesy of Ubisoft.
“Hasbro makes games that we all know and love, and we’re thrilled to be able to work with them to create video game experiences based on some of their most popular brands,” said Tony Key, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Ubisoft.
Electronic Arts previously held the Hasbro board game license for console games. They will still be able to publish and develop apps based on Hasbro board games for mobile devices.
SteamWorld Dig will be added to 3DS eShop tomorrow
Image & Form is bringing SteamWorld Dig, a 2D platformer set in a steampunk world (bet you didn’t see that one coming), to the 3DS eShop tomorrow, August 8. The robots are the good guys in SteamWorld Dig and you can learn all about their wild west world by checking out the launch trailer above or reading this very quick plot description:
You play the protagonist, Rusty – a lone-wolf, steam-powered cowbot who has come to an old mining town in great need. While digging your way through the old earth for riches and helping the townfolks get back on their feet, you unwittingly wake an ancient evil that lurks below…
After it’s added to the 3DS eShop tomorrow, SteamWorld Dig will be available to download for $8.99.

Nintendo is back in a big way this week with Pikmin 3. The latest game in one of Shigeru Miyamoto’s favorite franchises is in stores today and is sure to please Wii U owners who have been waiting for a big new title since Lego City Undercover‘s release this Spring. The PS3 is also back in a big way this week after a slow Summer. Namco Bandai’s action RPG, Tales of Xillia, and Atlus’ artful beat ’em up, Dragon’s Crown (available on the PS3 and Vita), will be available in stores on Tuesday.
What else is available this week? Well…
A game adaptation of Disney’s Cars spinoff, Planes, touches down on all Nintendo platforms (3DS, DS, Wii, and Wii U) this week. And EA has put out another Sims 3 expansion, The Sims 3: Dragon Valley. Finally, a boxed version of Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition for the PC is available this week, alongside Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers, a budget dogfighter for the PS3 and PC.

Nintendo Download: Pikmin 3, Cloudberry Kingdom, Planes, more

Nintendo has updated the Wii U eShop and 3DS eShop with a ton of new games today, but this week’s biggest release, Pikmin 3, won’t be available until Sunday. If the further adventures of Captain Olimar and his little companions doesn’t interest you, Pwnee’s insane platformer, Cloudberry Kingdom, is available for the Wii U today. And if neither of those games are of interest to you, 3DS and Wii U adaptations of Disney’s Planes will be available to download on Tuesday, August 6.
Virtual Console fans will be interested in knowing that Harvest Moon (originally released for the Super NES) has been added to the Wii U eShop and Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (originally released for the black-and-white Game Boy) has been added to the 3DS eShop.
More information on all of these games and a few additional releases can be found after the break. (more…)
Reggie Fils-Aime on Super Smash Bros. 4 petition: “My body is ready”
Leave it to Jimmy Fallon to get to get Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime to comment on fan petition requesting his inclusion in Super Smash Bros. 4. Late Night‘s resident game fan pelted Fils-Aime with a few Twitter questions from fans and after talk about third parties on the Wii U and how Reggie goes to bed every night dreaming of Link, we got to the big one: “What are the chance we may see you as an unlockable character in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U?”
Fils-Aime very diplomatically stated that the final decision is up to Masahiro Sakurai, the game’s Director. But he followed it up by saying, “If he wants, my body is ready.” Any fan of the man knows that this is a callback to his famous declaration before stepping on a Wii Balance Board for the first time at E3 2007.
It’s also the perfect answer to that question.
