Pac-Man Battle Royale finally comes home in Pac-Man Museum collection

pacmanmuseum-1

Namco Bandai created Pac-Man Battle Royale specifically for arcades in 2010. The (up to) four-player Pac-Man title made each player compete for a limited supply of Super Power Pellets that would increase Pac-Man’s size and allow the player to eat the other Pac-Men. Using the graphics engine from the excellent Pac-Man Championship Edition, it was an interesting new take on the Pac-Man formula that was only available in arcades.

Until now. Battle Royale will come home this Winter as part of the Pac-Man Museum collection.

The game will be released for the PC, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Wii U eShop, and 3DS eShop. In addition to Battle Royale and Championship Edition, the collection will also include the 1980 arcade original and several other Pac-Man games from the character’s 33-year history. Sadly, the PS3/Xbox 360 version of Pac-Man Museum won’t include Championship Edition, as that game is already available as a separate download on the PSN and XBLA.

I’m not sure I like that, Namco Bandai. However, I’m thrilled that Battle Royale is finally coming home and I’m willing to overlook it (especially since any obsessive Pac-Man fan already owns Championship Edition).

Atlus delivering 3DS title Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl to US this Fall

etrianodysseyuntold-header

Japanese Developer Atlus, best known for the Persona series, is bringing the next title in the Etrian Odyssey RPG series to the US this Fall for the 3DS. The new game, Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl, will be the second title in the series on Nintendo’s newest handheld, following on from the success of Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan. It is being touted as a reimaging of the original Etrian Odyssey that debuted on the DS in 2007.

Atlus will once again be employing Japanese animation company Madhouse, who they worked with on Persona 4: Golden and Persona 4: Arena, to provide story cutscenes and voice acting, marking a first for the RPG franchise. The game is also shedding the limitations on class skills found in previous titles, replacing it with a new system, dubbed “Grimoire Stone,” that will allow players to assign skills wherever they choose.

In addition to the game’s Story Mode, there will also be a Classic Mode for the nostalgic gamer, featuring the original game with an extra dash of 3D and three difficulty settings: Picnic, Standard, and Expert.

First Super Smash Bros. 4 trailer is double the fun

Have you watched the first trailer for Super Smash Bros. 4 yet? If not, I highly recommend it as the series looks beautiful in high definition. And, if it’s possible, the cel-shaded 3DS version looks even more stylish.

Sadly, the trailer above cuts off before the EPIC Mega Man reveal, but you can see the Blue Bomber deliver a smackdown on the entire Nintendo stable in the complete Nintendo Direct video (the link is cued up at 36:30 for maximum Mega Man).

Pokemon X and Y launching on October 12

We knew that Pokemon X and Pokemon Y would be released for the 3DS in October, but now we have an exact date: Saturday, October 12. That’s not just for Japan or the US, that’s for everybody. This is the first worldwide launch of a Pokemon game ever.

And speaking of firsts, Pokemon X/Y will be the first game in the series to introduce the Fairy-type Pokemon:

The first new type to be introduced in a Pokemon video game in over a decade, Fairy-type Pokemon like Sylveon and their Fairy-type moves will be super effective against Dragon-type Pokemon! Prior to Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, only Dragon-type and Ice-type moves were super effective against Dragon-type Pokemon. Fairy-type Pokemon will include not only newly discovered Pokemon like Sylveon, but also Pokemon from past titles like Gardevoir, Marill, and Jigglypuff, which will be reclassified as Fairy-type Pokemon in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y.

And while you’re here, be sure to check out the new gameplay trailer above.

Nintendo @ E3 13: Super Smash Bros. 4 looks amazing, includes Mega Man

e313nintendodirect

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata gave us our first look at Super Smash Bros. 4 and it’s definitely coming along nicely. The game’s got a great cel-shaded look on the 3DS and a modern, high definition sheen on the Wii U.

Confirmed characters for the next Smash Bros. game include Mario, Link, Samus Aran, Kirby, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Bowser, a Villager from Animal Crossing, and… Mega Man! Oh, yes! Classic NES-style Mega Man will join the fight when Super Smash Bros. 4 is released in 2014.

New Releases: The Last of Us, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Dark

newreleases061113

The E3 Expo begins this Tuesday (and several press conferences are scheduled to take place tomorrow), so the average gamer will likely be fairly distracted for the next few days. In response, game publishers have wisely avoided adding anything to the release calendar this week. So that makes it the perfect time for Nintendo, Naughty Dog, and Kalypso Media to release a few of this year’s most anticipated titles.

Starting things off, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the first game in the series to be released on the 3DS, is in stores today and is also available to download from the 3DS eShop.

Also available this week (on Friday, actually) is The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s first non-Nathan Drake game in nearly ten years. Gamers have been clamoring over each other for any new information about this PS3 post-apocalyptic title since it was first announced in 2011. Thankfully, the wait is almost over.

Finally, Kalypso Media will release Dark, an action RPG where players control a powerful vampire, for the PC. I’m not sure gamers are as hyped up for Dark as they are for Animal Crossing and The Last of Us, but it does look interesting.

Activision is bringing CoD: Ghosts, Destiny, Skylanders Swap Force to E3 2013

activisionlogo

Activision has unveiled their E3 2013 lineup and, unlike past years, it is not an unwieldy behemoth that seems to go forever. The biggest third-party publisher is going laser-focused for this year’s expo and focusing on three titles: Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, Bungie’s Destiny, and the third game in their mega-popular Skylanders series, Skylanders Swap Force.

And speaking of Skylanders Swap Force, Activision also confirmed that the game will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One (because, of course it is) and that the 3DS, PS3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360 versions will be available on October 13.

More details on all three of these titles can be found after the break. (more…)
