The Summer is coming to a close and we finally have some huge new releases to play.
Don’t get greedy, but New Super Mario Bros. 2 and its coin-tastic premise will be available this week for the 3DS.
Also available this week is the apocalyptic side-quel Darksiders II (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) and the Hong Kong-set crime story Sleeping Dogs (PC, PS3, Xbox 360).
Finally, Hironobu Sakaguchi brings his The Last Story to North America. Wii owners and Operation Rainfall supporters will surely be pleased.
Want a few more new releases? They’re after the break. (more…)

NCAA Football 13 is the bestselling game of July 2012
The NPD Group has released their list of the ten bestselling games of July 2012 and, surprising no one, NCAA Football 13 took the top spot.
The football sim was the only new release from the month of July to crack the top ten, but to be fair, there weren’t very many games released last month. Instead, the top ten is populated by holdovers like Lego Batman 2, The Amazing Spider-Man, and two Call of Duty games (Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3). According to Joystiq, this motley crew could only manage sales of $260.7 million, a 23% drop from July 2011’s take of $338.5 million.
The full top ten is available after the break. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Super Mario Land 2 discount, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, more
Welcome to your weekly Nintendo Download news! This week, Nintendo has discounted Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins as part of their Month of Mario promotion. The game will carry a $2.99 price tag from today through Wednesday, August 15.
Are you looking for something new instead? How about these new additions to the company’s download services:
Touch Battle Tank 3D (3DS eShop) – In Touch Battle Tank 3D, it’s you on a solo mission against a nearly unstoppable army of killer tanks. Your strategy – keep the action going and the shells flying!
Commando: Steel Disaster (DSiWare) – A military group is being attacked by some of its own war machines. It’s up to a commando and vehicle specialist code-named Storm to stop this terrorist threat.
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (Wii Virtual Console) – Originally released in 1997, this fighting game is the sixth installment in the Fatal Fury series. With a system based on previous games in the series, the game introduced a more evolved two-line battle, improved the power gauge system and abolished the ring out system.

Nintendo Download: Super Mario Land discount, Lost Town, more
Now that’s Nintendo’s 8-Bit Summer is over, this week’s Nintendo Download is considerably less exciting than it’s been over the last month.
The highlight of the week is a “Month of Mario” discount on the plumber’s first Game Boy adventure, Super Mario Land. Today through Wednesday, August 8, players can download the game from the 3DS eShop for $2.99.
Speaking of the 3DS eShop, a lone new game was added to it this week, 3D Solitaire. As you may have guessed, it’s a Solitaire collection… in 3D!
Also available this week is The Lost Town: The Jungle on the DSiWare Shop… “A mysterious meteorite landed in the Amazon jungle, cloaking the land in darkness and causing villagers and animals to go insane. You must locate the meteorite and use your elite combat skills to help get rid of it.”
New Releases: Kingdom Hearts 3D, Risen 2, Growlanser IV, More

We’re turning the calendar over to August this week, but that’s not going to put a stop to the Summer games drought. Although this week is a bit more loaded than recent weeks.
A big part of that is the release of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance for the 3DS. Dream Drop Distance is the first game in the Kingdom Hearts series for the handheld and Square Enix picked a perfect time to bring it across the Pacific.
Another anticipated RPG makes its way to stores this week. Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time, from Atlus, is a strategy RPG for the PSP that was originally released on the PS2 (as Growlanser IV) in 2003. However, that version of the game never escaped Japan, so Wayfarer of Time is technically a “new” game.
Also available this week is the console version of Risen 2: Dark Waters. The pirate-themed RPG will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Finally, Myst comes to the 3DS with “a brand new age” and PC players will be able to try their hand at the budget minigame collection Nightmares From the Deep: The Cursed Heart.

Skylanders Giants buzzes into stores on October 21
Meet Swarm. Swarm is a giant bee warrior and he’s going to be stinging his way through the enemies of Skylanders Giants when it release this Fall.
Oh… speaking of release dates… Activision also announced that the game will be available in stores for the 3DS, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 on October 21. A PC version is also planned, but it’s currently without a release date.
Wario Land goes for the gold in this week’s Nintendo Download
With the Opening Ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games less than 24 hours away, the big game in this week’s Nintendo Download is very fitting. The Olympics are all about the quest for the gold medal and the Game Boy classic, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, is also all about the desire for gold. Though, in this case, Wario is looking for a giant gold statue instead of a tiny medal.
Wario’s first starring role in a game is also one-half of this week’s entry in Nintendo’s “8-Bit Summer.” Mario’s evil twin is joined by the Game Boy puzzler Mole Mania on the 3DS eShop.
Hit the jump for a look at the rest of the games in this week’s Nintendo Download as well a pair of 3DS eShop deals. (more…)

Wreck-It Ralph joins Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed as guest driver

Sega has announced that the titular star of Disney’s upcoming movie Wreck-It Ralph will join NASCAR driver Danica Patrick as a guest racer in the upcoming Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Masanao Maeda, Chairman and Chief Content Officer for Sega of America, was bursting with enthusiasm when the newest addition to the racing roster was made public: “Wreck-It Ralph will make a great addition to our stellar cast in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Disney has created a unique film experience that will appeal to gamers of all ages, and our video game collaboration will give fans the opportunity to interact with their character on the small screen as well.”
Wreck-It Ralph‘s director Rich Moore was also over the moon about the character’s inclusion in Sega’s racer: “To have Wreck-It Ralph included in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a dream come true. The film pays homage to the video games I loved as a kid, including Sonic the Hedgehog in a special cameo, so being able to see Wreck-It Ralph in a real video game alongside Sonic and other iconic Sega characters is unbelievably exciting for me and should be a treat for fans!”
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will launch in November for Xbox 360, PC, PS3, Vita, 3DS and Wii U. Wreck-It Ralph debuts in cinemas that same month, along with a Wii and 3DS game of the same name.
