During the course of the convention, Nintendo will also operate a second booth in the South Hall (Booth 2335) with several other playable demos including Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past and Yo-Kai Watch 2, both of which will be released for the 3DS this September. “Having [PAX West] essentially in Nintendo’s backyard and getting a chance to connect with our fans makes it all the more special for us,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s appropriately-named Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Almost three years after its release, GTA5 was NPD’s best-selling game in July 2016

grandtheftautov-box-largeWith a sweltering Summer in full swing, game publishers mostly skipped the month of July. And nowhere is this more evident than the monthly NPD ranking of best-selling games, which was topped by Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V, a game that was originally released almost three years ago. The only new release to crack the top ten in July was Capcom’s Monster Hunter Generations, which claimed the #4 spot.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, NPD analyst Sam Naji said: “Lack of strong new titles for the month resulted with poor comparison with last July’s Batman: Arkham Knight with consumers spending 14 percent less year-on-year on hardware, software and accessories. However, the release of Monster Hunter: Generations and the price drop for the 2DS helped to bolster spending for 3DS and 2DS hardware by 44%”

While brand new titles were a rare sight in the NPD’s July 2016 top ten, new-ish titles like Overwatch (#2), Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens (#3), and Doom (#8) continue to be popular with shoppers.

The NPD Group continued their foray into tracking sales of digital downloads last month, though Capcom, Mojang, Bethesda, and Blizzard (for Battle.net sales) chose not to participate.

A full look at July 2016’s best-selling games can be found after the break. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Metroid Prime Federation Force, Style Savvy 3, Pokemon Ranger 3, more

Make your 3DS is charged, because Nintendo is releasing two new games for their handheld on the Nintendo eShop this week.

Samus Aran won’t star in Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and the art style is a bit on the cutesy side for a Metroid game, but players will be able to take control of a Federation Force Marine as they battle Space Pirates and Metroids on a mysterious planet. Up to four players can join the adventure, which will be released tomorrow, or they can take part in the included minigame, Blast Ball.

Also available to download for the 3DS tomorrow is Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, the latest game in Nintendo’s boutique management franchise. Players will be able to stock thousands of items in their boutique or “design clothes fit for a fashionista, style some wicked hair, master the art of make-up, and even become the next top model.”

Finally this week, the third game in the Pokemon Ranger series, Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs, will be available to download through the Wii U eShop. Originally released for the DS in 2010, players battle it out with the “Pokemon Pinchers” in this finale to the Pokemon Ranger trilogy.

More information on all of these games (and nearly a dozen other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)

New Retail Releases: Metroid Prime Federation Force, Style Savvy 3, F1 2016, More

newreleases081616

It seems like everyone who talks about Nintendo nowadays wants to talk about the NX, but the consolemaker is still releasing games for the 3DS, including this week’s launch of Metroid Prime: Federation Force and Style Savvy: Fashion Forward.

Metroid Prime: Federation Force is a co-op-focused spinoff from the main Metroid series and won’t star intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran. Instead, players will join up with a squad of Galactic Federation Marines as they do battle with Metroids and Space Pirates on a distant planet.

Meanwhile, Style Savvy: Fashion Forward is the third game in Nintendo’s fashion franchise, and it’ll give budding fashionistas the chance to design the perfect outfit with thousands of choices.

Steeping away from Nintendo, Codemasters will release F1 2016 for the PS4 and Xbox One. The latest racing simulation from the British developer follows the FIA Formula One World Championship, and includes 21 tracks and 22 drivers.

Finally this week, Krillbite will release a retail version of Among the Sleep for the PS4. Among the Sleep is a first-person game where players take control of a young toddler investigating the strange noises in his house. Is it the Bogeyman? or is it just a shadow?

The real question is, when you’re a toddler, does it make a difference?

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice will be released on September 8

Capcom has confirmed that Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice will be available to download through the 3DS eShop on September 8. The publisher also unveiled a new trailer for the game that’ll introduce fans to the game’s many characters (including the return of an old friend) and their abilities.

This new game’s cast is full of many zany favorites alongside a new ensemble of characters to meet, and today Capcom is announcing several of them, including the return of forensics scientist Ema Skye, who first appeared in the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

Ema has passed her certification exams and is now a full-fledged forensic investigator. Here she returns to assist Apollo in his defense of the series’ popular magician, Trucy Wright, Phoenix’s adopted daughter. Trucy is famed for her magic tricks and vanishing acts, until she suddenly finds herself mixed up in an unfortunate incident that takes place during one of her magic shows.

With Phoenix away, it’s up to Apollo and Athena to uncover the truth about the tragic death of Mr. Reus, one of Trucy’s co-performers. During this case, players will also meet the brand new character Bonny de Famme, a fledgling magician who appears in Trucy’s show and wants to help Apollo in any way she can, but what will her witness testimony reveal?

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice will carry a $29.99 price tag when its released, but 3DS owners will also be able to try out a free demo of the game beginning on August 25. The demo will include a court case from the game’s first chapter, which focuses on Spirit of Justice’s brand new Divination Seances feature.

Nintendo Download: Wave Race 64, Mega Man X, Mario Sports Mix, more

nintendoeshop-header

If you’re a fan of retro gaming, then today’s a good day to visit the Nintendo eShop. Three games from Nintendo’s illustrious past are now available to download through their digital storefront.

Let’s start with the Wii U eShop, and that’s because owners of Nintendo’s home console are now able to download Wave Race 64, one of the best games from the Nintendo 64’s launch period. An argument could even be made that it’s one of the best games ever released for the Nintendo 64, period. Also available to download this week is Mario Sports Mix, a mash-up of hockey, basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball that was originally released for the Wii in 2010.

Jumping over to the 3DS eShop, we find that Mega Man X, the first Mega Man game released for the Super NES all the way back in 1993, is now available to download for Nintendo’s handheld. Fans love the game’s colorful new characters and more mature storyline, and the brutal difficulty will provide a challenge for even the toughest players.

More details on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
