Resident Evil: Retribution trailer is full of Sony products, questions

Things we’ve learned from the first trailer for this Fall’s Resident Evil: Retribution starring Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Johann Urb, Michelle Rodriguez, and Bingbing Li:

  • Sony really wants you to buy a Vita, Sony Tablet, Sony MP3 player, and Sony cell phone as a fake commercial for Sony electronics (with music from The Who and a voiceover from Patrick Stewart) takes up 33 seconds of a teaser trailer that is only 78 seconds long.
  • Whoa! Ada Wong is in this movie!

Questions that need answering thanks to the last 45 seconds of the trailer:

  • How did Alice and company escape from the cliffhanger at the end of Resident Evil: Afterlife?
  • How did Alice take over the White House?
  • Why are there dragons flying everywhere?
  • How is Michelle Rodriguez’s character even alive?
  • Whoa! How awesome is it that Ada Wong in this movie?

Resident Evil: Retribution opens in theaters this Fall in 3D. Though I think the opening fakeout commercial will become a real commercial much sooner than that.

Daily Scoop: January 20, 2012 – Everybody’s gaming for the weekend

It’s finally Friday! I plan on playing a lot of Silent Hill tonight, after I poke around at some demos and maybe a multiplayer beta. It’s supposed to be cold and snowy, and what better way to deal with that than by gaming on your couch in a snuggy?

Amazon’s got two games as their Deals of the Day in video games today. The first is Ubisoft’s Anno 2070 for $34.99, and the second is EA’s Bulletstorm for $6.99, and both are PC downloads. It’s days like today I seriously wish I had a PC that could play games!

No gamer t-shirts, but there’s a good chance I’ll cave before midnight and get this one: (more…)

Silent Hill: The Terror Engine, an academic analysis of the series, released

Silent Hill: The Terror Engine both analyzes the first three Silent Hill games as well as takes a look at the series as a whole. It’s the second book in the Landmark Video Game Series, edited by Mark J. P. Wolf and Bernard Perron.

Perron “uses the narrative structure; the techniques of imagery, sound, and music employed; the game mechanics; and the fiction, artifact, and gameplay emotions elicited by the games to explore the specific fears survival horror games are designed to provoke and how the experience as a whole has made the Silent Hill series one of the major landmarks of video game history.”

This sounds absolutely awesome. It’s available right now at The University of Michigan Press. The first book in the series is called Myst and Riven: The World of the D’ni. I love academic gamers.

See Mario Kart 7 designs on next episode of West Coast Customs

Vehicle modification show “West Coast Customs” has taken on an interesting challenge: to bring some of the karts in Mario Kart 7 to life.

Ryan Friedlinghaus, founder and CEO of West Coast Customs, said “When Don James, Executive Vice President of Nintendo America, requested the meeting and he told me he needed us to create some of the Mario Kart 7 cars in real life, I was excited and ready for the challenge. Then he said they need to have a hang glider for flying and a propeller for underwater maneuvering, I thought, he must be joking!”

Tune in to Velocity this Sunday, January 22, at 9 PM; watch and see if they are able to successfully create replicas – to scale! – of the Mario Kart and the Bumble V kart.

Daily Scoop: January 19, 2012 – Let it not snow

Snow is on the forecast for Philadelphia! This makes me a slightly sad panda. The only time I really enjoy snow is when I’m strapped into a snowboard on a mountain. Other than that, it’s mostly just a nuisance. Whatever! I’m going to lock myself inside and do some improper dancing.

What’s up for today? I’m glad you asked. Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is a $50 promotional credit when you purchase an Xbox 360 4GB Console with Kinect. This could pay for an Xbox Live subscription, or another controller, or that copy of Modern Warfare 3 you’re dying for. Their PC game download deal of the day is Crysis Maximum Edition for $7.49.

Again, no gamer t-shirts, but I’m smitten with this one: (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 18, 2012 – Board games are fun!

Tonight, my dashing boyfriend and I are heading to a friend’s for delicious food and board games. We’re going to play some Pandemic and try to cure the world of all of its horrible viruses! Considering I’ve only won the game a small fraction of times I’ve played it, I’m not optimistic. But it’s still fun! You should check it out.

Amazon’s got another EA PC download for today’s Deal of the Day in video games – this time it’s $6.99 for Battlefield Bad Company 2. This is a great deal on a solid game, so scoop it up! Amazon’s also got new weekly deals going in games as well. First up is 40% off Disney Universe for the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360, bringing it down to $29.99. Next is $50 off the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector’s Edition, bringing that down to a more reasonable $99.99. If you buy a 250 GB Xbox 360 Holiday Kinect Bundle, you can get Kinect Sports Season Two and a Fitbit Wireless Activity/Sleep Tracker for free. And in the Warehouse, you can get Halo Reach for $17.99 used. Scoopity scoops!

No gamer shirts (what did you expect after having four yesterday!) but there is a hilarious “Army of Darkness” one I’m tempted to buy… (more…)
