Daily Scoop: January 17, 2012 – Long weekends keep me sane

Well, they try to keep me sane, anyway. They mostly just prevent me from completely losing my sanity, which I think is different than being entirely sane…

Anyway! Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is EA’s Medal of Honor for just $6.99 on the PC. As what I consider to be one of the most underrated games of 2010, this game is an absolute must-buy at this price. GameStop‘s new deals start tomorrow, and include $30 off Assassin’s Creed: Revelations and $10 off Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3. Scoop ’em up!

I’ve got a record-breaking four video game t-shirts for you today! Rejoice, friends, rejoice! (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 13, 2012 – Friday the 13th!

It’s Friday, friends! And it’s the 13th: traditionally a bad omen. I’ve had some ill luck to start off the day – a flash drive containing valuable data has kicked the bucket. I’m hoping someone can help me revive it. But the good news is that Don Riggs and I have claimed this day to be Dune Day! Behold us in our glory.

What’s going on in the world of deals today? Well, so far as I know, all we’ve got is Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games, which is Turtle Beach’s Ear Force X31 Digital RF Wireless Game Audio + Xbox Live Chat. It’s on sale for $69.99 from $99.99.

Just one video game shirt today, which is dedicated to one of your favorite characters in Portal: (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 12, 2012 – All’s Quiet on the Thursday Front

Not much of anything going on today, except for a smattering of rain on and off! It’s a quiet, boring day, and I’m kind of hoping it stays that way. I’ve been gaming a lot lately, and I could use another quiet night of gaming and kitties and something warm in my tummy…

The only deal I’ve got for you today is Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games, which is Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. It’s just $17.99 today, but chances are, if you’re a fan of the series, you’ve already got this one. But just in case you were waiting for it to go on sale, well – today’s your lucky day!

There aren’t even any good video game-related t-shirts for sale today. I mean, seriously, the Internet is quiet. The only thing I’ve been hearing about is this whole Girl Scout cookie boycott thing, about the people up in arms because the Girl Scouts let a transgender kid join their ranks. All these stories have done is make me really want some Girl Scout cookies…

Borderlands: The Fallen Review: Spend Some More Time on Sunny Pandora

John Shirley – whose name you might remember from my scathing review of the BioShock novel – is at it again, this time with a novel entitled Borderlands: The Fallen. As you can guess, it’s a novel based on Pandora in the world of Borderlands. It follows Roland, the Soldier, on a mission (see what I did there?) to find an alien ship. After spending several hundred pages with Shirley, I was wary to dive into yet another tepid tie-in. But in a surprising turn of events, the book actually turned out to be not as bad as I’d feared. Daily Scoop: January 6, 2011 – A Friday arrives!

It’s Friday, and I couldn’t be more grateful! What games are you looking forward to playing this weekend? I’m going to try to play more Assassin’s Creed or Final Fantasy XIII tonight, and then it’s Dungeons & Dragons the rest of the weekend for me, maybe with a smattering of Blood Bowl… oh, who am I kidding? I’ll probably watch episodes of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and read comics in my underwear.

Not much going on today with deals. Amazon’s having a sale on Disney games, including Lego Pirates of the Caribbean. Now you can get it on every platform imaginable!

Two more gaming t-shirts today, woohoo! (more…)

More Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses tour dates

If you are like many Zelda fans, tingles run down your spine whenever you hear three simple notes from a piano and the haunting tones of an ocarina. You can’t help but grin with the desire for adventure when your iPod is on shuffle and the Hyrule Field Main Theme sneaks its way into your earbuds. Imagine the majesty of your favorite soundtrack brought to life by an entire symphony orchestra. That’s what The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses tour aims to do when it sweeps into town.

Check out the current schedule:

Daily Scoop: January 5, 2012 – Give me a snow day!

Well, it snowed here last night, but it was pretty pathetic. And I didn’t get to do any of those things I mentioned yesterday, other than read more Dresden Files, because I was working on some reviews for you, my dedicated followers. The things I sacrifice…

Anyway, what deals do we have today? Over at Amazon, the Deal of the Day in video games is all about being active! You can save up to 33% on their “New Year, New You” sale, which includes Just Dance 3 for $29, Michael Jackson: The Experience for $29.99, and… the Little Big Planet 2 Special Edition Move Bundle for $99.99? Sure, Amazon! Ok! Sackboy definitely makes me, um, sweat.

Let’s put on a show! Supergiant performs two songs from Bastion live!

Bastion has been racking up a ton of Game of the Year awards (including our own “This Game Rocks!” Award) for its excellent soundtrack, amazing voice work, and classic gameplay.

So, to celebrate, composer Darren Korb and vocalist Ashley Barrett got together over the holidays to put on an impromptu live performance of “Build That Wall (Zia’s Theme)” and “Setting Sail, Coming Home” at Supergiant’s super-headquarters.

It’s pretty awesome and my virtual lighter has definitely been raised for two talented musicians.
