Daily Scoop: October 18, 2011 – Gold Box day!
Hey, guess who is sick again? Did you guess me? Then you guessed RIGHT! You are a brain genius. I got eight hours of sleep last night, which of course means I woke up with a headache, a fever, a brick of snot in my face, and swollen glands. My cold is coming back with a vengeance. But I am battling it with vitamins, animal crackers, and sheer will. Go me!
Anywho, Amazon’s got a lot going on today – it’s a Video Game Gold Box event! The Deal of the Day in video games is Activision’s Spider-Man: The Edge of Time. It’s $39.99 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and $29.99 for the Wii.
The Lightning Deals are:
- The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Special Edition for the PS3 sold out at $27.99!
- Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is $19.99 for the Xbox 360
- 12:00 PDT/3:00 EST: “Everybody’s favorite swashbuckling swordfighter comes to your handheld device” (My favorite swashbuckler doesn’t have a video game, so I don’t know what this refers to!)
- 2:00 PDT/5:00 EST: “This Nintendo DS title puts you in the shoes of a rookie defense lawyer trying to make his name. Take on intriguing, unusual cases and use your courtroom skills to unravel some of the most outrageous and funniest trials you’ve ever seen.” (I’m assuming this has to be Phoenix Wright!)
- 5:00 PDT/8:00 EST: “Hear your PS3 games in a whole new way”
- 8:00 PDT/11:00 EST: “Welcome to Vegas, premium version” (Do you mean New Vegas, Amazon?)
Whew. I definitely had a twitchy finger when Trails in the Sky was so cheap, but I managed to avoid buying it. I also haven’t picked up Batman: Arkham City yet, which is making me physically sweat. Or maybe that’s the fever. I’m not sure.
No gaming t-shirts today, guys. Oh, what? This isn’t enough? You aren’t satisfied?!?! If you really want to spend $10 that badly, then you should buy this adorable Star Wars/Invader Zim mashup shirt from Ript: (more…)

New York Comic-Con came and went in a flurry of excitement! And this amazing and beautiful weekend ended on a delightfully creepy note with the season 2 premiere of “Walking Dead” last night. Daily Scoop: October 13, 2011 – Dysentery is no longer a concern
Thursday’s here, and it’s brought with it a ton more rain. Like Philadelphia needed more rain! Ha. It’s also brought some joy, though – I finally caught up to where my boyfriend is in “Breaking Bad,” meaning we can watch more of season 4 together tonight. I’ve been thinking, too – wouldn’t it make an amazing video game? I can see it already: meth lab Quick Time Events. Brilliant!
Moving on to today’s deals! Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War for $15.99 on the PlayStation 3. If you don’t already have this amazing Treyarch game, you might want to pick it up. Come to think of it, I don’t have this game! I may want to scoop it myself…
Today’s Ript is entitled “Trail Invaders,” and marries Oregon Trail to Space Invaders, just as you suspected when you read the name: (more…)

G4 turning Mario Kart, Duck Hunt, Angry Birds into scary short films

Hey, did you know G4 makes short movies under the banner G4 Films? Yeah, me neither. But apparently this month marks their first ever Epictober Film Festival. Starting October 24, G4 Films will be streaming three short films based on Mario Kart, Duck Hunt and Angry Birds at G4TV.com/g4films.
However, the best part is that each of these iconic games has undergone a terrifying transformation on their way to your computer screen.
Duck Hunt has become “The Hunt,” a tale of three hunters who come face to face with a monstrous entity keen on their demise. it sounds like everyone that’s ever wanted to zap that annoying dog will be in for a treat. Unless the dog has the last laugh. “The Hunt” was directed by Sam Balcomb and will make its online debut on October 24.
The colorful bounciness of Mario Kart has been washed away to create “Kart Driver,” a film that may have come from the mind of Martin Mario Scorcese. Actually, it was directed by Drew Daywalt and is a story of “fury and obsession” as a heroic plumber seeks out his damsel in distress, even if it means facing off with a creature from the very bowels of hell. “Kart Driver” will be available for viewing on October 25.
Finally, “The Birds of Anger” will show that the Angry Birds don’t just have it in for pigs. Riffing on Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 classic The Birds, the short was directed by directed by Gregg Bishop, who also created the excellent feature-length film Dance of the Dead. “The Birds of Anger” flies online on October 26.
Daily Scoop: October 12, 2011 – Iiiiiit’s Wednesday!

Anyway, deal time! Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Heatwave Interactive’s Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising. This MMORPG for the PC is on sale today for $16.99, and lets you play as a Demigod. What more could you ask for?
Today’s Ript is a delightful Poe/Angry Birds mashup: (more…)

Watch episode 1 of Dragon Age: Redemption now; Mark of the Assassin DLC also available
At long last, EA and BioWare have unleashed the first episode of the Dragon Age: Redemption webseries. Telling the tale of elf assassin Tallis, the series was written and produced by Felicia Day, the commonly accepted Queen of All Nerds and creator of The Guild. Oh, and she also donned a pair of elf ears to play Tallis.
If you watched Mortal Kombat: Legacy, you’ll know what to expect from Dragon Age: Redemption. There’s the low budget and the effects-obscuring camera angles, but there’s also a spark of a fun time here. And who doesn’t like that? Episode two will be available next week.
However, if you can’t wait that long to experience the further adventures of Tallis, BioWare has also released the Dragon Age II: Mark of The Assassin DLC pack on the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Marketplace.
And in case you were wondering, Day voiced the character in the expansion as well.

Daily Scoop: October 11, 2011 – Post-plague edition
Whew! I’ve had a horrible flu the last few days that basically knocked me out of commission. I’m still dragging a bit – I’ve got that slightly stupid sick feeling – but I’m out of bed, and that’s what’s important! I’m back with a vengeance, ready to deliver you the hottest scoops on the Internet!
Let’s see, what’s going on? Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is the recently released Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2 Innocent Sin by Atlus. This PSP remake – released in America for the first time – is just $29.99 today. Fans of the series who can’t afford it at $39.99 might think $10 off isn’t the best deal, but if it’s enough of a discount for you, you know what I say! Scoop it up :)
What else, you asked? Well, there’s one Lightning Deal up at Amazon as well:
2 PM PDT/5 PM EST: For those who love the classic gaming experience, this handheld breakthrough is sure to guarantee hours of fun on the go. (Could this be the PSP Go? No…)

Daily Scoop: October 6, 2011 – Occupy Philadelphia starts today
It’s an intense day in Philadelphia. Occupy Philly started today, and spirits are high in the city. The Facebook page is full of updates and photos for anyone interested in seeing what’s going on. (And everyone should watch this amazing video of Jeff Mangum playing at Occupy Wall Street the other night.) I’m not really one for politics, but I’ll admit – this movement has my attention.
It seems almost hollow to follow that up with daily deals, but that’s why I’m here, so that’s what I’ll bring you. Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Trion’s MMO for the PC, Rift, which is 73% off today at just $7.99. This is a steal, and you should jump on it!
There’s nothing in today’s t-shirts, but ThinkGeek has some awesome Portal coasters: (more…)
