Daily Scoop: August 11, 2011 – The Bantha-phant in the room

D&D was amazing last night! I’m playing a Bladesinger, which reminds me a lot of the Sorcerer class from Final Fantasy V. It’s a perfect combination of a wizard and a fighter. I love it!

Anyway, what else is up today? Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Namco’s Splatterhouse for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s on sale today for just $19.99, so bring home the blood and gore!

No gaming shirts for you, but today’s shirt.w00t is completely adorable: (more…)

Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries kollected on Blu-ray this November

Warner Premiere has announced that all nine webisodes of Mortal Kombat: Legacy will be coming to Blu-ray on November 8 (a DVD version wasn’t announced). Priced at a very wallet-friendly $19.99, the disc will include five documentaries to combat the even more wallet-friendly option of watching the series on YouTube right now. Those special features include:

  • Mortal Kombat Legacy: Fights – A look at the role “Fatalities” and hyper-violence play in the Mortal Kombat storytelling process. Included within the piece is a detailed exploration of the fights and stunts staged during the production of the web-series.
  • Mortal Kombat Legacy: Fan Made – Go inside the mind of Mortal Kombat super fan Kevin Tancharoen and uncover his passion and vision that brought Mortal Kombat: Legacy to life.
  • Mortal Kombat Legacy: Expanding The Netherrealm – Multi-chapter documentary brings the Mortal Kombat universe to life.
  • Mortal Kombat: Mysticism – Discover the powers that define the characters.
  • Mortal Kombat: Gear – Explore all the weapons that make Mortal Kombat fighting unique.

But as I said, if you’d prefer to watch the entire series for free, we’ve got you covered. Part one can be seen above with the rest of the episodes available at the Mortal Kombat: Legacy page.

Filmmaker Ridley Scott working on Call of Duty Elite

Ridley Scott – most famous in my eyes for directing 1979’s Alien – will be working on the Call of Duty Elite episodic content. The CEO of Activision, Eric Hirschberg, revealed this today at the 13th Annual Pacific Crest Global Technology Leadership Forum. He also mentioned that Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Ben Silverman, and Tony Scott will be involved.

Hirschberg said Activision is creating “exclusive episodic entertainment built just for the Call of Duty community… Just like any other passion that people spend a lot of their free time doing, Call of Duty players share a common language and a common experience, and we think we can create some entertainment content that they will love and talk about and share.”

Language? What is he talking about? Pfft. Well, I’m heading out to get some marshmallows to roast over the camping n00bs in CoDBlOps.

Call of Duty Elite is currently in beta for the Xbox 360. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be out on November 8 for all platforms.

Daily Scoop: August 9, 2011 – Kittens!

So, I’ve been playing a game on my way into work, and that game is called “find all the kittens.” I walk by all the stores known to have cats or kittens living in them and plaster my face on the window, wishing I could pet them. I’ve just discovered the motherload: the pet store at 20th Street has three kittens in the window right now. One of them looks like the Pup! I just wish I could hug them all, but I know I can’t hug every cat.

Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Nintendo’s Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs for the Nintendo DS. It’s $19.99 today, and features Ukulele Pichu, a Pichu that plays a ukulele! Zomg.

There’s also a Lightning Deal – the clue is simply “Take to the sky in this popular Sims franchise.” More on that as it becomes available! Update: It’s MySims Sky Heroes for $9.99 on the DS and $14.99 on the Wii!

No daily gaming shirts today, but Qwertee‘s got a cute one: (more…)

A Saved by the Bell interactive YouTube game! I’m so excited!

Oh “Saved by the Bell,” when I wasn’t watching “The Simpsons,” you were my television show of choice in the early 90s. I’m just sad that I never got to play out the video game adventures of Zack, Slater, Screech, Kelly, Jessie and Lisa on my Super NES.

What’s that? Thanks to The Fine Brothers, now I can? The world is a better place today my friends.

Taking a few cues from the criminally underrated Earthbound, the “Saved by the Bell” series of interactive videos tasks Zack with helping out his friends. He has to make Screech cool, he has to get Jessie to stop taking the caffeine pills (“I’m so excited! I’m so scared!”) and he has to keep that perv Jeff away from Kelly (I mean seriously, the guy was in his mid 20s and Zack was the only one who thought it was creepy that he was dating the 16-year old Kelly?).

OK, maybe I was a little too into “Saved by the Bell” back in the day.

Daily Scoop: August 8, 2011 – Tunic for Heroes

Oh, Monday. How you came up and stole the weekend away! But it’s ok, because I got to play a ton of video games all weekend, including some Borderlands and some co-op Portal 2. So bring it on, Monday!

Let’s see, what have we got today? Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Ubisoft’s CSI: Unsolved for the Nintendo DS. It’s on sale for just $9.99, so if you feel like solving some crimes with Morpheus Laurence Fishburne, now’s your chance!

Amazon’s also got new weekly deals in games. If you buy Disney Epic Mickey, you can get another Disney game for a total of $39.99. (My vote is always for Disney Sing It: Party Hits!) The other deal is $20.99 for Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the Nintendo DS.

No daily gaming shirts today, but I’m sort of loving 6 Dollar Shirts, especially this one: (more…)

Daily Scoop: August 5, 2011 – Mario M.D.

Whew, Friday is here! And I’ve got a three-day weekend. Today will primarily be thinking about, writing about, and reading about video games. If I’m lucky, I might even get to play some! What a novel idea…

Anyway, today’s Deal of the Day in video games over at Amazon is one that I think Ryan Littlefield will like. It’s Hori’s Nintendo DS Dragon Quest Slime Speaker Stand for $34.99! I would love to see what my cats would think about that little guy.

What else? Amazon’s offering a $50 promotional credit when you buy the Xbox 360 250GB Console with Kinect. Also worth mentioning is a current in-store deal at GameStop – buy a 320 GB PlayStation 3 Move Bundle and get two free games – selection varies by store.

Today’s Qwertee is called “Mario M.D.” and it’s a nice Mario/”House” mashup (and a repeat from a Tee Fury shirt back in January): (more…)
