Minecraft: The Unlikely Tale of Marcus “Notch” Persson and the Game that Changed Everything Review: The Awesome Story of the Indie Sensation and the Man Behind it

I’m a sucker for books about the video game industry. Big games, small games, gaming personalities – I love them all. Which is why when I heard about Minecraft: The Unlikely Tale of Marcus “Notch” Persson and the Game that Changed Everything, I wanted to read it, in spite of my minimal experience with the game itself. Written by Daniel Goldberg and Linus Larsson, a pair of technology journalists from Sweden, Minecraft: The Unlikely Tale… is their first book to receive an English translation. Once I got my hands on their little green book, I could not put it down. (more…)
Daily Scoop: January 23, 2014 – Snow boots required
Now that I’m of the age that I should be referring to myself as a “grownup,” I have noticed that there are things I can’t tolerate anymore. One of those things is cold, wet feet. I think it’s time that I take the plunge and actually get a pair of snow boots. But the problem is that actual snow boots are seriously expensive. So I can either get a cheap pair that will likely wear out and/or not protect my feet, or get a for real pair of awesome boots. Right now I’m leaning towards the latter, but… it’s so many money! And all I want to do is stay inside and play games anyway. Maybe I’ll just stop going outside!
Anyway, for days when I don’t need to go outside, I like to have a nice pile of games to play, and the Humble Store knows how to keep me well stocked! Right now, they have Bag It for $0.99, Eldritch for $4.99, and Fotonica for $4.99. Scoop ’em up!
Lots of t-shirts today… (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 22, 2014 – Snow day gaming!
We got a snow day, woo! We were up all night playing video games, and when we stopped gaming, I marathoned more Archer, and Anthony created more Lego robots in the Lego builder. It was a pretty incredible night. Now our friend Adam is here, and our main goal is to get past level 15 in Legend of Dungeon. I think we can do it, if I could just stop attacking random Minotaurs…
There are a few good deals you can hop onto today! Steam’s Midweek Madness is the Hitman Collection for $8.99, and includes Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Absolution, Hitman: Blood Money, and Hitman: Codename 47.
Not in the mood for Hitman? There are a few good deals at the Humble Store as well. You can get Retro City Rampage for $4.99, Shadowgrounds for $0.99, and Truck Racer for $19.99. Scoop ’em up!
Of course, there are some t-shirts after the jump! (more…)

Watch This! Every NES title screen in alphabetical order
God bless the Internet.
Someone has put together a YouTube video that compiles the Start Screens of every NES game ever released (including some that never made it out of Japan) in alphabetical order. And get this… it’s nearly three hours long. I guess my entire day is shot now because, one, this sounds totally awesome and, two, I need to know if the whole thing actually is in alphabetical order.
Daily Scoop: January 21, 2014 – Crazy snow edition
So I’m not sure about where you are right now, but Philadelphia is covered in snow. And despite the fact that the Internet has been telling us about this snow for days, the city was not prepared at all and is a complete mess. There’s been no salt, no plowing, and lots and lots of sirens. I even got sent home early. Excite!
Anyway, in case you’re snowed in and want some games, Amazon’s Editor’s Choice Deals are going until January 31st. In case you’re looking for some Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag sales, there are some of those, too. It’s $29.99 for the game on PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360, while the Limited Edition is $99.99.
And now, it’s t-shirt time! (more…)

Daily Scoop: January 20, 2014 – Last day for big PSN sales
I’m not sure if you heard about the amazing sales on the PlayStation Network, but you only have one more day to get in on the deals. Crysis 3 and Enslaved are $5, while Killzone Mercenary is $9, and there are even some cross-buy games, like Spelunky, that are $3.75.

Daily Scoop: January 17, 2014 – Ready for a long weekend
It’s Friday, woo! I’m really excited about having a three-day weekend, mainly because I want to play some more video games. I finished up Papers, Please yesterday (which I highly recommend buying right now) and I am looking forward to getting through some other games I’ve started. And maybe, you know, doing laundry, or something. (Boring.)
Looking for some new indie games? Check out the latest bundle over at Indie Royale! Pay more than the average for PixelJunk Shooter (one of my all-time favorites!), Gun Monkeys, Megabyte Punch, Ride ’em Low, Stronghold HD, and Hexcells. Pay $7 or more to unlock a bonus album!
Steam is also having a great deal this weekend – they’re offering 50% off of Saints Row IV (putting it down to a smooth $19.99), and you can play it for free until Sunday at 1PM PST! Now’s your chance to play this ridiculous sequel and decide if you want to buy it (though if you do, you might want the Wub Wub edition. Just saying.).
And now, for today’s t-shirts! (more…)
