PBS Inventors profiles Ralph Baer, the Father of Video Games, on his 91st birthday
Before Cliff Bleszinski… Before John Carmack… Before even Shigeru Miyamoto… there was Ralph Baer. While not known as a game designer, Ralph Baer gave the video game industry something much more important: the first home console.
Today is Ralph Baer’s 91st birthday and PBS has decided to celebrate with the “Father of Video Games” by profiling him as part of their Inventors digital series.
Baer began work on his “Brown Box” console all the way back in 1966. It would eventually be released to the public in 1972 as the Magnavox Odyssey. The prolific inventor is also responsible for the first light gun and the first light gun game, Shooting Gallery as well as the Simon handheld game. Happy birthday Ralph! Never stop inventing.
I’d also like to wish a happy birthday to Warp Zoned’s Senior Editor, Nicole Kline. I’ll bet she had no idea she shared a birthday with video game royalty.
Daily Scoop: March 7, 2013 – Proper Tidy, Mun!
I just got my Ni No Kuni-themed t-shirt in the mail last night! It’s proper tidy, mun. I decided against getting the other two that were up, although I really wanted them! Just like I still want that Ombre Noire shirt. Must… resist… purchasing… !
I didn’t see any deals today, though I will say that Gamer Deals posted their Deals in a Nutshell for March, and on it, it says that Amazon is giving a $30 bonus credit if you pre-order BioShock: Infinite. So far, I haven’t been able to find that deal on Amazon’s site, and I’ve contacted Gamer Deals for more info, but I haven’t heard anything back. If that deal is extended to the Premium Edition, I am all over that.
As always, some more good t-shirts to tempt you: (more…)

Daily Scoop: March 6, 2013 – Level up
My class isn’t finished yet, but my grant proposal is nearly done! I’ve been dreading write this paper since I started the program a few years ago. And now it’s nearly behind me! It’s a joyous day, despite being a wintry mix outside. I am going to video game so much tonight my hands are going to cramp! Oh wait… I still have homework… well, I’ll just game a little.
No deals today, but I’ll tell you what I’m watching in my Amazon cart, if you really want to know. First is the aforementioned Bit.Trip Complete for $10.76. Now that the DS sequel is out, I’m really tempted to get Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for $19.59. And I really want to get Dead Island for $14.49, as well as Max Payne 3 for $17.77. Stop being so cheap, games I want! I mean, unless Dishonored wants to go on super sale… I won’t complain about that.
I’ve got a few good t-shirts for you: (more…)

Rumor: Sixth Resident Evil movie opening on September 12, 2014

ShockTillYouDrop.com is reporting that Sony/Screen Gems and director Paul W.S. Anderson are preparing to unleash a sixth (and presumably final) Resident Evil film on the moviegoing public on September 12, 2014. Considering the cliffhanger that Resident Evil: Retribution ended on, I can’t say this is too surprising.
It’s unknown if Anderson will direct the currently untitled Resident Evil 6 or if he’ll hand it off to someone else (which he did for Extinction and Afterlife). As this is still in the rumor stage, Milla Jovovich also has yet to officially sign up, but I can’t imagine a Resident Evil movie without Alice.

Daily Scoop: March 1, 2013 – Enter Friday!
Well, we made it, everybody. We made it all the way to Friday. Can you believe it? Sadly, I’ve got a weekend full of homework ahead of me, but I’m going to reward myself with video games every moment I can. I am a tired lass, and this cold is tenacious, so hopefully Isaac Clarke can help me out. Oh wait… I think we’re about to go somewhere super cold. Colder than space!
No deals today, but that’s a good thing: we just finished a hectic month of releases, and we’re about to get swamped with another one. Your backlog could use a break, friend. Trust me on this one! You’re going to need all of your strength for March.
And let’s not forget today’s t-shirts! (more…)

Daily Scoop: February 28, 2013 – Second month of 2013 over!
Wow! It’s already the last day of February. So many great games came out this month, and even more are coming out next month! 2013 certainly is starting off with a bang… and never enough time to play all the games. Boo!
Want some more games for your embarrassingly huge backlog? Why not try some of the digital deals over at Amazon? The Desert to Sea Bundle is $19.99 and features BioShock, BioShock 2, and Spec Ops: The Line. Or you could get Max Payne Complete for $19.99, which includes Max Payne 3 and the season pass. Or maybe you’re dying to get your hands on XCOM: Enemy Unknown – in which case, you could get it here for just $37.49. Not bad!
Two t-shirts for you today, one of which I’ve already purchased: (more…)

Daily Scoop: February 27, 2013 – Halfway there
It’s always rough having a full work week after having two partial work weeks. This week is going by as slow as anything! I’m hoping to get in some gaming time tonight, but homework is making it so that I can’t have any fun.
Looking for some good deals? You might want to check out the big sale going on at GameFly right now. They have tons of used games on sale for under $20, including Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Medal of Honor Warfigher, and Spec Ops: The Line. Scoop ’em up!
Lots of great t-shirts available today: (more…)

Daily Scoop: February 26, 2013 – Go away, winter!
Yet another cold day is sweeping by. I’m getting some kind of cold, so of course, no matter what the temperature is outside, I’m freezing! I wish I was home with a blanket, my cats, and Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. And maybe some hot chocolate, and marshmallows, and some mac ‘n cheese… What can I say? I’m a simple lady.
Not a lot of deals really today – GameStop’s weekly ad has some great stuff. You can get Dead Space 3, Far Cry 3, and Halo 4 for just $39.99 each. They’re also having a pretty huge Skylanders Giants sale – starter packs are $10 off and you can get a free sidekick when you purchase a battle pack!
Did somebody say t-shirts? (more…)
