GLaDOS battles Lovecraftian aliens in Del Toro’s Pacific Rim
Rumor has it that Guillermo Del Toro’s Insane is back in production at some mystery game developer. And with the release of the first trailer for next year’s Pacific Rim film, it looks like the famed director will be battling a lot of Lovecraftian monsters in 2013.
In Pacific Rim, skyscraper-sized aliens have emerged from a portal underneath the Pacific Ocean and its up to Idris Elba and his team of Jaeger pilots to stop them. Anime fans will recognize the Jaegers as being very similar to the 25-foot tall mechas that are very popular in Japanese cinema and television. Be sure to check out the trailer above where Elba gives a rousing speech that rivals Bill Pullman’s at the end of Independence Day and listen close for the voicework of Ellen McClain (AKA GLaDOS from the Portal series) as the voice of the AI that manages the mechas.
Pacific Rim will be open in theaters on June 12, 2013.
Daily Scoop: December 12, 2012 – Yes, I know, it’s a lot of twelves
Wow, the Internet is really excited that today is the twelfth day of the twelfth month of the twelfth year! They were especially excited at twelve minutes and twelve seconds past noon. Apparently, it’s also a popular day to get married – I think it’s called a “vanity wedding date” or something crazy like that. What will they think of next?
Anyway, after yesterday’s Gold Box event, I’m happy to tell you that there are still some pretty decent sales going on! Dishonored, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Halo 4, Hitman: Absolution, and Medal of Honor: Warfighter are all $39.99 on Amazon. There are some new weekly specials featured over at Play-Asia as well – you can get Asura’s Wrath for $14.90 and Catherine for $17.90.
There’s just one t-shirt today, but it’s a cutie! (more…)

Movie rights to Ernest Cline’s Armada optioned by Universal
Ernest Cline’s 2011 novel, Ready Player One, was a massive gift to nerds everywhere (especially ones who came of age in the 80s). And it sounds like he’s gearing up to do it again with his next novel, Armada. The book has been described by publisher Crown as “The ultimate wish fulfillment to every video game fan on the planet.”
Universal was so impressed by Cline’s 20-page proposal that they’ve already purchased the film rights to Armada… even though the world only found out about it yesterday! The movie will be produced by Scott Stuber’s Bluegrass Films and Dan Farah’s Farah Films. Farah is also hard at work producing the Ready Player One film adaptation.
Obviously, it is much too early to discuss anything about Armada, book or film. But hopefully we’ll learn more soon.

Daily Scoop – December 6, 2012 – Sick creatures
So I’m finally feeling slightly better – that is, I feel like there might be a person somewhere inside of here. In the meantime, my cat and my boyfriend are both not feeling well! So I was dealing with a sad, crying, horking cat, and a sad, tired, coughing human last night. My poor guys! They’re having a rough time of it. Hopefully tonight will be better for both of them. I think they just need more vitamin H (that’s Hugs!)
There are a couple more featured deals going on at Amazon, though nothing too big. You can get Asura’s Wrath for $17.14, the Capcom Digital Collection for $12.59, and Cradle of Egypt 2, Cradle of Persia, and Cradle of Rome 2 for $14.99. Scoop ’em up!
There are two awesome shirts today – even if one is a repeat! (more…)
