New York Times to publish Tetris-themed crossword next week
A lot of people see Tetris pieces in their dreams. But next Thursday, October 25, people will also be able to see Tetris pieces embedded into the famous New York Times crossword.
The puzzle design, which you can see on your left, was created by Kotaku reader “Caleb.” Caleb Madison is considered the New York Times’ resident crossword whizkid, so it likely belongs to him.
In addition to the block shapes, the puzzle contains a few other Tetris-themed surprises, but unless you want to be spoiled, don’t click on that Kotaku link.
And speaking of Tetris, did you know it was recently named the “Scientifically Proven Best Video Games of All Time“? Because it was.
Daily Scoop: October 17, 2012 – Encounters ends tonight!
So, the latest season of Encounters ends tonight, which is kind of sad, but not too bad! It was a campaign of all evil characters, so it’s not really all that hard to let it go. It was my first experience DMing in fourth edition, and doing so for characters trying to backstab each other can get a little challenging. But it was a fun time anyway, and I’m glad I got to do it! The new season starts up next week, and I’m looking forward to the changes they’ve made for that as well. Hooray D&D!
No deals to speak of today. But that’s ok with me – I’m up to my ears in games right now. Oh, wait! There is one good thing: Odin Sphere is 50% off on the PSN this week only. Trust me, you want to scoop this one up.
Just one shirt today! (more…)

Daily Scoop: October 16, 2012 – Plans within plans
Nothing like having a full agenda and getting nothing done! I swear that’s been my life lately. Try to get one thing together and a million other things seem to fall in the way. Oh, and also, today is kind of a natural bummer of a day – it’s the day BioShock Infinite was supposed to come out. Boo!
Anyway, what’s going on for today? John Scalzo, our Editor-in-Chief, let me know that Gamefly is having a nice sale – it’s an under $15 sale on used games. You can get Mass Effect 3 or Syndicate for $9.99, or Binary Domain or Batman: Arkham City for $14.99. Or you could just spend your money on the Borderlands 2 DLC that came out today, or saving it up for the new Sleeping Dogs DLC that was just announced. Scoop those up, people! For sure.
Some great t-shirts are up for sale today! (more…)
Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul to star in Need For Speed movie
Aaron Paul is going places. As his final season as Jesse Pinkman in “Breaking Bad” is wrapping up, he’s been jumping into movies. The most recent bit of news? He’ll be starring as the lead in the new film Need for Speed.
The Dreamworks film will be inspired by the EA franchise. Due to hit theaters February 7, 2014, the studio says it will begin filming early next year. Scott Waugh will be the director, with the story written by John and George Gatin, and co-produced by John Gatin and EA’s Patrick O’Brien and Mark Sourian.
According to the Entertainment Weekly article,
While Need For Speed seeks to capitalize on the same car-culture passion that made The Fast and Furious movies such hits, the presence of an actor of Paul’s caliber suggests the racing thriller may be steering for a little more depth.
More depth? Than Fast and Furious? Impossible.
Daily Scoop: October 15, 2012 – PokeyMans!
Welcome to yet another exciting week! I have deals, and funny websites, and t-shirts, and so much more for you! Well, ok, not really so much more. But I can tell you about my weekend! During this fabulous weekend, I successfully drank a Guinness without getting sick, beat Borderlands 2 (and started a new game as a Gunzerker), saw Looper, and finished the twelfth Dresden Files book. Whew. Oh, and watched the first episode of season three of The Walking Dead. I’ve been a busy lady!
Amazon is just having the same deals they had last week, except not as many of them. They’re still running deal for the Xbox 360 Entertainment Bundle – for $229, you get the Xbox 360 4GB console, an Xbox Live 3 month Gold Membership, the Xbox 360 media remote, a $10 Amazon Instant Video Credit, and 3 Xbox Live Arcade games. They’ve still also got the $30 credit offer when you purchase the Madden NFL 13 PlayStation Vita Wi-Fi Bundle. Best Buy is having an Xbox 360 bundle sale. You can get $50 off the 250GB Holiday Bundle, the 4GB Kinect Holiday Bundle, and the 250GB Kinect Holiday Bundle, each of which comes with different games. Scoop ’em up! Or at least, you know. One of them.
As for funny websites, check out this awesome Pokemon art project, in which webcomic creator Noelle Stevenson draws Pokemon as they are described to her. Stevenson, who doesn’t know the Pokemons, draws them from their descriptions, and hilarity ensues. Let me just put it this way: the line “wow it looks like Crash Bandicoot went through the stupid machine” had me in tears today.
And now, t-shirt time! (more…)

Daily Scoop: October 12, 2012 – Everybody’s working for the weekend
The weekend is almost upon us! I hope that your weekend is full of delightful fall weather, sweaters, kittens, puppies, candy, and perhaps even a warm spiced drink. Oh, and video games, of course! I’m going to be doing as much gaming as I can fit in with my busy schedule. We’ve got plans to see Looper at some point, and I’m going to a Guinness tasting, which should be nice. Here’s to the busy weekends of the fall!
There are a few good video game deals going on over at Go Hastings right now, including 25% off used games. Put in the code 250K for that one. For some reason, they’re advertising a deal on the game Brink on their games page. Protip: do not buy this garbage. Please!
Finally, I’ve got some great t-shirts for you today! (more…)

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn – Part 2 is now available
It’s Friday morning, so here’s the second episode of Microsoft’s Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn webseries. In this episode…
Cadet Michael “Sully” Sullivan continues to decode the hidden ONI combat video as Lasky’s struggle with his place in the UNSC ignites with fellow cadet Walter Vickers. After a classroom confrontation with Captain Mehaffey and a challenge from Chyler, Lasky pulls Hastati Squad back from the brink…at a terrible physical cost to himself.
Don’t forget to check back next Friday for part three!

Daily Scoop: October 11, 2012 – Ten eleven twelve!
Well today is a very special day – it’s the eleventh day of the tenth month of the twelfth year, making it 10/11/12! That’s pretty nifty. Too bad I’m squandering it at home laying in bed, filled with sickness and sadness. At least I get to play Borderlands 2 all day, but… still. It sucks being sick.
You know what else sucks? Zero deals! There are no deals today. I mean, that’s perfectly acceptable, in my opinion… I’ve already got my hands full with Borderlands 2, Retro City Rampage, and Torchlight II, not to mention Pokemon Black 2. I really don’t need anything else right now!
I especially don’t need more t-shirts, but there are a whole bunch of great ones today! (more…)
