Daily Scoop: May 7, 2012 – Another day, another deal

Another weekend has flown by, and another Monday is upon us. It’s like it’s some sort of pattern or something.

But at least some wild deals have appeared! Amazon’s new weekly deals are up:

They’re also having a Mother’s Day Sale on select video games, including Just Dance, Zumba Fitness, and The Biggest Loser Challenge. That seems a bit sexist. What if my mom plays Gears of War?

Daily Scoop: May 3, 2012 – Nearly the weekend!

Well, not too terribly close, but still, it’s Thursday, so we’re almost there! Another work week is close to behind us. And this weekend is Cinco de Mayo! How will you be celebrating? I’ll be playing Dungeons and Dragons and trying to get through more of Prototype. Maybe I’ll even play a little Cards Against Humanity. I know, I know – I live on the edge!

Not really too much to mention today deal-wise. Amazon has predictably lowered the price of the Xbox 360 Limited Edition Kinect Star Wars Bundle to $399.99 as well, bringing it even closer to ending up in my living room. Maybe if I wait long enough they’ll add in some store credit, and it will be too much for me to resist!

Daily Scoop: May 2, 2012 – Nero Day

It’s humpday, and it’s raining! But that’s OK, because I’m listening to Nero, which is brightening the day up considerably. It’s a tea and blanket kind of day, but instead, I’ve got Vitamin Water and a hoody. I guess I’ll just have to make do…

Not too much in the way of deals today! Amazon’s digital deals are: $7.99 for Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Augmented Edition, $6.99 for Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Standard Edition, and $4.99 for Dungeon Siege 3.

Other than that, GameStop’s got some new deals, including $50 off of the Xbox 360 Limited Edition Kinect Star Wars Bundle, bringing it to a more reasonable $399.99. Scoop it up!

Just one shirt today, but it’s one of Megan Lara’s finest! (more…)

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360)

Rockstar reveals cover for first issue of Max Payne 3 comic

Max Payne is drunk and he just shot somebody and left them to die in the street. Welcome back to Max’s world and welcome to the cover of “Max Payne 3: After the Fall,” a three-issue limited series comic created by Marvel and Rockstar Games.

Issue #1 of “After the Fall” is written by Rockstar’s Dan Houser (he also wrote the story for the game) and Remedy’s Sam Lake. The cover art was created by Greg Horn with pencils and inks by Fernando Blanco. The series will “[feature] characters from all three Max Payne games as the series weaves together events from various points in Max’s life.”

“After the Fall” will be available as a free digital download through the Rockstar Newswire and on the Max Payne 3 official site this Thursday, May 3. A “limited run” of print copies will be also available later in the month.

Max Payne 3 will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on May 15.

Halo 4 live action web series to debut this year

Last show, gamers were treated to fantastic webisodes based on Mortal Kombat and Dragon Age II. This year, Microsoft is getting in on the act with a new webseries to promote the release of Halo 4.

The gamemaker has partnered with Machinima to distribute Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn ahead of the game’s November 6 release. In addition to Machinima’s YouTube channel, episodes will also be available via the Halo Waypoint, Microsoft’s community portal for all things Halo, and eventually, on home video formats.

Forward Unto Dawn will tell its tale over five episodes, with each episode lasting about 15 minutes. The series will follow the Master Chief in the early days of the Human-Covenant War and “how he inspired a young UNSC cadet who will eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity spacecraft.” This cadet will go on to play a major part in Halo 4’s storyline.

“Every time we do a live-action commercial the audience says, ‘We want to see more so that we can explore the Halo universe a little bit more,” said Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director at 343 Industries. “Demand grew more and more out of the two little vignettes we’d previously produced.”

Microsoft plans to announce the creative team and cast behind Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

It’s the last day of April and I say good riddance! April’s been nothing but cold weather and rain, with a major drought in video game releases. Bring on May, with the flowers and video games! Especially Diablo III.

Daily Scoop: April 27, 2012 – Lady Day!

Hooray, it’s Friday! And it’s a day to celebrate your geek ladies. Tonight is Girl Geek Dinners Philadelphia’s one year anniversary! To celebrate, we’re having a fun talk and then a happy hour. Also, I’ve been listening to Ladytron all day. Coincidence? I think not.

So, what deals are going on today? Well, there’s a lot of hubbub around Torchlight IIwe found out yesterday that, depending on where you pre-order it from, you can either get access to the Neverwinter beta, or a free copy of the original Torchlight. Steam’s also got an additional bonus: order four copies and get them for $60 instead of $80. (In case you were wondering, yes, Ryan Littlefield and I have already partaken in this.) GameStop also has a few deals going on – though the page is advertised as “50% off,” there’s not really much there that is actually that cheap.

Amazon’s got the same old boring deals going on:

Only one shirt today, but it’s a good one… (more…)
