Activision has deployed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered’s Launch Trailer

One of the most-popular and best-reviewed games in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, will receive a remastered release this November, but Activision wants to start getting excited now. Yesterday, the publisher deployed a Launch Trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, and it hits all the high points.

PS4 players who pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be able to download Modern Warfare’s single-player Campaign on October 5. Sadly, they’ll have to wait until November 4 to jump back into the game’s multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will also be available on the PC and Xbox One for players who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare. As of right now, Activision doesn’t have any plans to sell Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone, but that could always change in the future.

J.J. Abrams confirms Portal and Half-Life films are still in development

Way back in 2013, film director J.J. Abrams and Valve CEO Gabe Newell told the world that movies based on Half-Life and Portal were in the works at Abrams’s Bat Robot Productions. Last night, during HBO’s gala premiere for the premiere episode of Westworld, Abrams reconfirmed that both adaptations are still on track.

Speaking to IGN, Abrams revealed that he actually has a meeting with Valve next week, and that he’s hoping to make an announcement concerning Portal “fairly soon.” While the cagey director wouldn’t elaborate further on the agenda for that meeting, he did say that they’re very close to finding a screenwriter:

“We are having some really interesting discussions with writers, many of whom…once you said you’re doing a movie or show about a specific thing that is a known quantity you start to find people who are rabid about these things. As someone who loves playing Half Life and Portal, what’s the movie of this, it’s incredible when you talk to someone who just ‘gets’ it, it’s like, oh my god, it’s really the seed for this incredible tree you’re growing.”

And in case you were wondering, Abrams had a hearty laugh at the mere mention of Half-Life 3. So… Half-Life 3 is probably going launch on May 7, 2017… because as we all know, that’s World Laughter Day.

See the first 20 minutes from Gears of War 4 right here

Microsoft and The Coalition have already given us a glimpse at Gears of War 4‘s Launch Trailer, but there’s still a lot more to see before the game’s October 11th launch. Yesterday, The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson and Matt Searcy sat down to play through the game’s Prologue chapter.

The video includes more than 20 minutes of gameplay and, according to the Xbox Wire, players will get the chance to visit three “pivotal” moments from the franchise’s history:

Dropping players straight into the action at the opening of the game, Prologue immerses you in a series of pivotal moments from the Gears of War universe never before seen in a Gears videogame – including Emergence Day and a key battle from the Pendulum Wars.

After a brief introduction by The Coalition’s Studio Head Rod Fergusson and Lead Campaign Designer Matt Searcy, our uncut gameplay of Prologue will have you joining the fight across three decades of Gears history: the COG’s raid on UIR forces to secure the Hammer of Dawn technology at Aspho Fields, Emergence Day at the House of Sovereigns, and the Locust’s siege of Anvil Gate.

Gears of War 4 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so everyone who downloads it through the Xbox Games Store will receive a copy for their Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.

Xbox Store Today: Forza Horizon 3, FIFA 17, XCOM 2, more

The Xbox Games Store is heading down under this week as Forza Horizon 3 is now available to download. Developed by Playground Games, Forza Horizon 3 brings the series to Australia for some coastal racing in more than 350 of the world’s snazziest cars. And players who purchase it through the Xbox Games Store will receive a digital copy of the game for the Xbox One and the PC.

Also available this week is FIFA 17, the latest soccer sim from EA Sports, for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. EA Sports has upgraded the game engine for FIFA 17, while also adding a story-focused career mode known as “The Journey.” Do you have what it takes to make it in the Premier League? Now’s your chance to find out.

Professional soccer players might seem like a completely separate species, but Xbox One owners will also be able to battle it out with actual extraterrestrials this week in XCOM 2, a tactical alien invasion simulation from 2K and Firaxis. XCOM 2 was previously released for the PC earlier this year, and this time around, players will fight to take back the Earth, which is under alien rule.

Elsewhere on the Xbox Games Store this week, Sierra Games will continue their rebooted King’s Quest adventure on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 with a brand new chapter, Snow Place Like Home. King Graham is still telling stories, and this time he spins a yarn about the time he rescued Prince Alexander from Queen Icebella’s Frozen Castle.

Finally this week, the Xbox Game Preview program grows by one with the release of Everspace, a space shooter with roguelike elements, from Rocketfish.

As usual, more information on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

Super Mega Baseball 2 slides home on PC, PS4, Xbox One in 2017

Metalhead Software has announced plans to bring Super Mega Baseball 2 to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2017. In building the sequel to their well-received baseball sim, the developer has pledged to make Super Mega Baseball 2 even more realistic with new features:

  • Revamped Graphics: Complete with enhanced character models, new and updated stadiums, and a modernized interface, Super Mega Baseball 2 has a fully rebuilt look that carries forward the personality and spirit of the original.
  • Player and League Customization: Build the ultimate fantasy baseball league with full customization of your league, teams and players. Choose the number of teams in your league and customize each team’s logos and uniforms. Then dig deeper by customizing individual player stats and appearance.
  • Online Co-Op and PvP Play: Play cooperatively or head-to-head with online multiplayer. Or take it offline and play couch co-op or solo. In cooperative modes, teammates alternate batting/running each time at-bat and alternate pitching/fielding each inning, challenging ballplayers to stay on their toes in every play.
  • Refined Gameplay: Just like its predecessor, Super Mega Baseball 2 features solid controls, but this time around features more refined gameplay and a more realistic scale.

And don’t forget to turn your attention to the scoreboard out in center field for a look at Super Mega Baseball 2’s debut trailer.
