Saint Seiya: Soldiers’ Soul will be released for PC, PS3, PS4 in Fall 2015

About two months ago, Bandai Namco filed a trademark application for “Soldiers’ Soul,” which many people assumed would be related to From Software’s “Souls” series in some way. I guess the joke’s on all of us as the publisher announced the title actually belongs to Saint Seiya: Soldiers’ Soul, a new game adaptation of the popular manga and anime.

In this brand new anime and game, the legendary Gold Saints are back from the dead with their new God Cloths! The fabled fight against Hades was not the end of everything for Athena’s heroes: blessed by heavenly powers, Seiya and his friends still have to accomplish something bigger!

Soldiers’ Soul will be the second Saint Seiya game to be released in North America, following the release of Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers in 2013. The game is in development at Dimps (for the PC, PS3, and PS4), and should be be released sometime this Fall.

New Releases: Mortal Kombat X, Grand Theft Auto V for PC

Just two new games are set to be available on retail store shelves this week… but they’re two of the biggest games of the Spring.

First up, NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat X will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The sequel will slingshot the franchise’s storyline 25 years into the future and introduce a whole new generation of kombatants to the world. The last game in the series, Mortal Kombat, was released four ago, which is the biggest Mortal Kombat drought since the five-year gap between Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

Also available this week, after several delays, is Grand Theft Auto V‘s PC launch. Rockstar’s game of cops and robbers was originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 while an upgraded edition for the PS4 and Xbox One launched last year. The PC version (which requires seven discs) promises to be the most expansive version yet.

That’s it for the retail release report, but a handful of new games will also be available through Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Games Store, and the Nintendo eShop this week.

Kickstart This! Ira, Izle, Upside-Down Dimensions

Apologies for the absence of Kickstart This! on Warp Zoned in March, but my sister decided to get married and then invite a few of us to join them in New York for the first leg of their honeymoon (not as weird as it sounds). While seeing the many sights the Big Apple had to offer, and munching my way through the trifecta of pizza, pretzel, and hot dog, I managed to pop into Nintendo World at Rockefeller Plaza. It was great to meet and play with some American gamers, though my girlfriend dragged me out before I was able to buy some of the amazing tees on sale. It re-invigorated my love for video games, which everyone needs once in a while. Sometimes we all go through slumps where our enthusiasm wanes, and for much of March I was stuck in one.

But I have crossed back over the Atlantic buzzing to play some great games, and help fund some beautiful and unique ones on Kickstarter. This week, I’m travelling into space with Ira, creating new lands in Izle, and becoming a papercraft samurai in Upside-Down Dimensions. (more…)

Get introduced to the world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in this gameplay trailer

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s May 19 release date is getting ever closer. To get gamers in the mood for all the witchin’ they’re about to do, CD Projekt Red has released a new gameplay trailer for the game. Introducing players to the world of the Northern Realms, the trailer explores the mountains, seas, and pubs that Geralt of Rivia will traverse to complete his mission:

In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt you become Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer for hire. You take on the greatest contract of your life — tracking down the Child of Prophecy, a living weapon that can alter the shape of the world. Your journey will take you across the Northern Realms, a vast continent filled with merchant cities, mysterious islands, dangerous mountain passes, and forgotten caverns to explore. Hundreds of armor and weapon upgrades await you, with lethal sword and magic skills at your disposal.

The developers have previously described The Witcher 3 as 20% larger than Skyrim, but it’ll become even larger than that after the release of the two “massive” expansions that were announced earlier this week.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III will take place in a “dark, twisted future”

Hidden within the source code of Call of Duty’s official website is our first hint at what Call of Duty: Black Ops III will offer. According to Activision, the game will take place in a “dark, twisted future” where “the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead.” In addition to this dystopian vision of the world, we also know that wars will be fought using “cutting-edge military robotics.”

Sounds peachy. Actually, it sounds a bit like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. You can read the full description right here, which also confirms the return of Treyarch’s popular Zombies Mode:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is the first title for next-gen hardware in the critically acclaimed Black Ops series. Developed by Treyarch, the award-winning creator of the two most-played games in Call of Duty history. Call of Duty: Black Ops III will be released this November. But first, gamers will be introduced to the game during a “World Reveal” on April 26.

Insert Quarter: Should Mega Man Make a Comeback? Maybe We Don’t Need Him…

Insert Quarter is our showcase for some of the best and most interesting writing about video games on the Internet.

With Shovel Knight, 20XX, and the upcoming Mighty No. 9 giving the gaming populace their fill of homages/spiritual successors to Mega Man, some people have started to wonder if a new game starring the original Blue Bomber is even necessary. GameRadar’s David Roberts is one of those people.

According to Roberts, Capcom is so handcuffed by the Mega Man formula that we might just be better off with the imitators. I’m not sure I agree, but he makes an interesting case:

It’s been nearly five years since Capcom released the last official Mega Man game. Mega Man 10 was just like all the other Mega Man games (Mega Mans?) that came before it; crunchy 8-bit graphics, a series of themed robot bosses, and soul-crushing difficulty. Since then, Capcom has released a fan-made Street Fighter/Mega Man crossover and let the Blue Bomber fight against a stable of Nintendo characters in Super Smash Bros. That’s all Mega Man has to show for the last five years; everything else has been cancelled. And you know what? Maybe that’s for the best.

First Call of Duty 2015 teaser confirms CoD: Black Ops 3 reveal on April 26

After two days worth of teaser teasing, Activision and Treyarch have delivered a teaser trailer that all but confirms the next Call of Duty game as Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

There are a few clues in the trippy video above that point to a third Black Ops game. For example, dialogue from both Black Ops games, some of which references “Mason,” the franchise’s main protagonist, is peppered throughout the video. And at one point, the swirling letters morph into a perfect replica of the box art from Call of Duty: Black Ops. Oh, and the trailer ends with giant roman numerals that spell out “III.” It’s subtle, but I think I’ve cracked their code.

The trailer closes by promising that a “World Reveal” of Call of Duty: Black Ops III will take place on April 26.

The first trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is four minutes of cyberpunk chaos

After three days, Square Enix’s “Can’t Kill Progress” livestream has ended with the announcement we all expected (even before Game Informer spilled the beans)… a sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution is in development at Eidos Montreal. I admit, I didn’t watch very much of the stream, but the nearly four-minute announcement trailer that Square Enix just revealed for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is its opposite in every way. I’m sure a lot of people would say the hype event was sleep-inducing, but this trailer is anything but. Adam Jensen is back and his “super-augmented” skills are on display the entire time.

But underneath all the cyberpunk-style chaos, Eidos Montreal also wants to push the Deus Ex story in new directions:

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes place in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution and the infamous “Aug Incident” in Panchaea that resulted in the death of millions at the hands of those who had installed augmentations. This event has created a huge divide between those who have augmentations, and those who do not. Amongst this emotional turmoil are various factions looking to manipulate the public by twisting public opinion of augmentation to further their own agenda and hide the truth of what really happened.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided also continues the story of Adam Jensen, a former biotech company security chief turned super-augmented, anti-terrorist agent playing by his own rules. Jensen has been empowered with all new augmentations, enabling him and the player a greater sense of self-control as they explore all new locations in-game. As social and political tensions reach a major turning point, Jensen and conspiracies surrounding the Illuminati continue toward an inevitable crossroads … and possibly, an epic showdown.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A release date will be announced “at a later date.”
