Don’t scream… Alien: Isolation pre-order DLC will be available to all at a later date
A few days ago, Sega revealed an awesome pair of pre-order bonus missions for Alien: Isolation that recreate key scenes from Alien, the 1979 film that started it all. The first mission, “Crew Expendable,” will be available to everyone who pre-orders the game. But the second mission, “Last Survivor,” was announced as a GameStop exclusive.
But developer Creative Assembly wants to assure everyone that both missions will be available to all Alien: Isolation owners in due time. Even if you don’t have any plans to pre-order Alien: Isolation, both missions will be available to download sometime after the game’s release. Creative Assembly’s Community Manager, Nee, confirmed the good news on Facebook yesterday:
I can confirm today that we do plan to release both “Crew Expendable” and “Last Survivor” at a later date and we’ll have more details for you guys on that shortly.
Alien: Isolation will be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 7.
Another Mortal Kombat X character will be unveiled at Evo 2014

NetherRealm Studios has confirmed (via their Facebook page) that another character from Mortal Kombat X will be unveiled this weekend during the finals of the Injustice: Gods Among Us tournament at Evo 2014. The finals will take place on Saturday, July 12 at 3:00 PM (Eastern Time) and they’ll be streamed on Evo 2014’s official Twitch TV channel.
The only clue we have to the identity of this mystery fighter is the cryptic phrase, “I Stand Watch For Eternity.” This could be referring to one of the many Elder Gods that have appeared in the Mortal Kombat series over the years including Raiden, Fujin, or Shinnock. But it could just as easily be an original character, continuing the precedent set by NetherRealm at this year’s E3 Expo. Of the six characters revealed so far, four are brand new (Cassie Cage, Kotal Kahn, Ferra/Torr, and D’Vorah). Speculation is easy, but we’ll find out for sure in less than two days.
Mortal Kombat X will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in 2015.
Project Spark will be released for PC, Xbox One on October 7

Xbox One and Windows 8 gamers have been able to grab the Project Spark open beta since December. After almost eight months of testing, Microsoft is ready to announce that the full version of their game creation game will be available to purchase on October 7.
Officially dubbed the “Project Spark Starter Pack” (and priced at $39.99), the full version of the game will include a ton of content such as “Galaxies: First Contact” (a sci-fi-themed content pack), the warrior champion “Sir Haakon ‘Hawk’ the Knight,” and “Champions Quest: Void Storm” (the first episode of “an epic campaign adventure”). And if you’re worried about losing your beta creations, don’t be. Players who have been part of the beta will be able to roll over all their created content, credits, and favorite levels into the full version.
Project Spark is also in development for the Xbox 360. A release date for the last-generation version of the game will be announced at a later time.

Alien: Isolation pre-order bonuses let you relive 1979’s Alien
Now this is how you do a pre-order bonus!
Sega and 20th Century Fox have announced that gamers who pre-order Alien: Isolation will be upgraded to the Nostromo Edition, which will include an exclusive mission based on 1979’s Alien.
The “Crew Expendable” mission will allow players to take control of Ripley, Dallas, or Parker as they attempt to lure the Xenomorph into the airlock. Regardless of which character you select, you’ll coordinate with Lambert and Ash on the task. Best of all, every character (except for Ian Holm’s Ash) will be voiced by the actor who originated the role. So that means Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley), Tom Skerritt (Dallas), Veronica Cartwright (Lambert), Yaphet Kotto (Parker) and Harry Dean Stanton (Brett) will all appear in the mission.
Gamers who pre-order Alien: Isolation from GameStop will receive a second mission based on Alien, “Last Survivor.” In this mission, players will take control of Ripley as she activates the self-destruct sequence and gets to the shuttle. Don’t forget the cat!
“Working with the original cast has been an incredible experience,” said Alistair Hope, Creative Lead on Alien: Isolation. “It was important to us to have the key original cast members reprise their roles in order to perfectly capture the atmosphere of the movie. For some of the original cast, this is their first appearance in an Alien video game. Seeing them reprise those roles after 35 years was an unforgettable experience.”
Alien: Isolation will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 7.
Deep Silver is asking fans to create the Dead Island 2 Collector’s Edition

The last time Deep Silver created a Collector’s Edition for a Dead Island game, they came up with Dead Island: Riptide‘s infamous “Zombie Bait Edition.” The centerpiece of that package was a bikini-clad bloody torso statue that sent the Internet into an uproar. So the publisher is turning to the public for help in designing the Dead Island 2 Collector’s Edition.
A new survey posted by Deep Silver asks their fans to rate 28 different items on a scale of one to five. The options include the expected (character figurines, art book), the unexpected (zombie arm back scratcher, beer cooler case), and the downright bizarre (zombie Oscar statuette, a real zombie). Voting is open now and closes on Monday, July 14 at midnight. So if you want to vote, you better hurry.
Dead Island 2 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Spring 2015.

Respawn announces second TitanFall DLC pack: Frontier’s Edge

Before it launched, Respawn revealed that TitanFall would be followed by three DLC map packs. The first, Expedition, was released in May. And now we know the name of the second: Frontier’s Edge.
Like Expedition, Frontier’s Edge will include will include three new maps. The three maps will be known as “Dig Site” (an “isolated mining outpost”), “Haven” (an “exclusive beach resort”), and “Export” (a “mining hub on the side of a mountain”). If you purchased the TitanFall Season Pass, you’ll be able to download the Frontier’s Edge DLC for free. It will also be available individually at a price of $9.99.
The one thing that Respawn didn’t announce for Frontier’s Edge is a release date. It’ll be available eventually, that’s all we know at this point.
Gearbox announces MOBA-like “hero-shooter” Battleborn
In Borderlands, Gearbox created a unique first person shooter that fused frantic gunplay with RPG-style leveling and loot drops. Now, they’re going to flip the FPS script once more with the MOBA-inspired Battleborn, which is in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game will likely be released sometime in 2015, but an early 2016 release is also a possibility.
Battleborn takes place in the “the distant future of an imaginative science-fantasy universe” and features a slew of heroes (including a nymph-like creature, a dandy robot wearing a bowler hat, a musclebound Rambo-type, a pretty pink princess, and a swordsman wielding dual Lightsabers laser swords) battling cooperatively through a story-driven campaign and competitively in traditional multiplayer deathmatches.
“If Borderlands 2 is a shooter-looter, Battleborn is a hero-shooter,” said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software. “As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created.”
Um… sure. It looks like 2015 is going to be a very confusing time for gamers as now we’ve got Bloodborne, Battleborn, and BattleCry all scheduled for release within the same year. I’m sure some publisher will announce “Blood Cry” any day now.

Anomaly Defenders Review: Back to Basics

The original Anomaly: Warzone Earth took a fresh, new approach in the ubiquitous tower defense genre by flipping the traditional roles around, having you play as the creeps fighting against the towers. The fun, challenging gameplay led to a sequel (aptly named Anomaly 2), which introduced the very cool creeps vs. towers multiplayer. Well, those darn alien towers are back in a third installment, Anomaly Defenders, except this time, you are the darn aliens. (more…)
