Call of Duty: Black Ops II’s villain is the 99% in this new trailer

Usually, supervillains are among the 1% of the 1%, what with their volcano fortresses, supermodel bodyguards, and orbiting death lasers. But the big bad of Call of Duty: Black Ops II has grander ambitions. He’s Raul Menendez, a man who is idolized as “The Messiah of the 99%.”

He is also a megalomaniac bent on world domination.

Check out the trailer above to get your first glimpse on the dual nature of Menendez and remember that Call of Duty: Black Ops II will launch for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on November 13.

Quantum Conundrum Review: Fluffy, Frustrating, Fun

There are some heavy expectations when your name is preceded by the informal title of “Portal co-creator,” but Kim Swift has proven she can handle the pressure. Her new game, Quantum Conundrum, is a fun brain-twisting puzzler reminiscent of her more famous previous work. However, a few significant issues keep it from achieving GLaDOS-level heights. (more…)

Dead Space 3 developers tell you how not to die in this 20-minute gameplay video

Those of you eagerly anticipating the next title in the pant-staining Dead Space series should watch the above video as Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis narrates twenty minutes of glorious gameplay footage from Dead Space 3.

The footage takes place around Act Two of the game; assuming the chiseled Steve is using movie lingo, about a third of the way in. It appears to show Isaac and his partner Carver having survived a crash landing on the Hoth-esque ice planet Tau Volantis. The new hostile environment brings with it a host of new, scarier necromorphs for Isaac to dispose of with typical messy fashion.

Dead Space 3 will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in February 2013.

Gearbox still grinding away at Brothers in Arms: Furious 4

For those who were hoping for a Gearbox double bill of Borderlands 2 and Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 this year, you will be slightly disappointed, as the latter has now been pushed to 2013. However, it is not all bad news, as that means the game hasn’t been cancelled, as previously rumoured. According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, Furious 4 is still in development, and has “evolved” from what people are expecting:

“I think people are going to be surprised by what they’ll see, and it’s still evolving. One of the reasons why we’re not talking about it now is that it’s evolving and we need to make further changes before we can start talking about it.”

The premature speculation surrounding the game’s alleged demise seems to have been caused by a trademark application for the game was rejected. It has now been clarified that the initial rejection was granted to a joint application by both Gearbox and publisher Ubisoft. Gearbox has since filed for an individual trademark, which will hopefully pass through unhindered.

The World War II shooter is said to differ from its predecessors by injecting a hint of Borderlands craziness, with four zany soldiers tearing across Germany on a mission to take out Hitler. Whether or not the influence of Inglorious Basterds will still be there after the game’s “evolution” is something we will have to wait and see.

New Releases: NCAA Football 13, Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure, Ice Age 4, More

It is hot. Like, too hot. Too hot to do anything but complain. And complain we will, as we’re in the dog days of Summer and the new release slate is ridiculously bare. Game publishers will eventually jump onto the “Summer Blockbuster” mentality, I just wish they’d do it sooner.

This week’s big new release is NCAA Football 13 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s joined by Sega’s 3DS rhythm game, Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure and the multiplatform movie tie-in game, Ice Age: Continental Drift – Arctic Games.

Hit the jump for a few more new releases. (more…)

Activision announces Walking Dead FPS based on the TV show

With Telltale hard at work on their episode adventure series based on The Walking Dead comic, Activision has announced a first person shooter based on the television show… which is also in development for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 and will also be titled The Walking Dead. Oh, and Activision’s game will also serve as a prequel story that takes place before Rick Grimes wakes up in his hospital bed.

Because that’s not confusing for gamers AT ALL.

Activision’s Walking Dead game will be developed by Terminal Reality and will follow the Dixon brothers, Daryl and Merle, as they work their way towards Atlanta. Players will control Daryl, who will be carrying his trusty crossbow, but “players will need to carefully manage food, ammunition and supplies as they make their way through the game.” Other characters will meet Daryl and Merle on their journey and it’ll be up to the players to decide if they can tag along.

The Walking Dead (the first person shooter) will be released sometime in 2013.

New Rambo game will be playable at Gamescom

With most of the big guns skipping Gamescom this year, they’ve left an open space that’ll be filled by the biggest gun of all… Rambo!

UK publisher Reef Entertainment has been very quiet about the game since announcing it last August, but they plan to bring a playable build of the action game to this year’s Gamescom expo. This year’s Gamescom expo will be held n Cologne, Germany from August 15-19.

Reef Entertainment Commercial Director Craig Lewis said: “We [are] dedicated to creating a video game for consoles and PC that will allow Rambo fans and gamers across the globe to really get under the skin of Rambo and wield his iconic weapon-set in battle.”

Rambo doesn’t have a release date and no American publisher has stepped forward to claim the game yet.
