New Releases: Sniper Elite III

Do you like snipers? How about elite snipers? Oh, and do you hate Nazis? Who doesn’t, right? They’re bad dudes.
If you agree with all of the above, then this week’s lone new retail release, Sniper Elite III, is perfect for you. Players will take control of OSS sniper Karl Fairburne as he takes on Germany’s Akrika Korps during the waning days of World War II. Sniper Elite III will be released this week for current-generation consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360), next-generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One), and the PC.
Apologizes to all Wii U owners out there.
Platinum is developing a Legend of Korra game for Activision
In the “OMG YAY!” department, Platinum Games has announced it is developing The Legend of Korra, a game based on – no kidding – the show by the same name. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Fans can currently vote on the cover art on Facebook.
Tim Hedrick is writing the game’s story, which is good news, since he’s involved in the show. Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, co-creators and executive producers, will be consulting. The game will take place between seasons two and three, and you’ll get to play as Korra herself, using the four elements to not just fight enemies, but also participate in the Pro-Bending arena. You’ll also get to ride on her awesome bear-dog, Naga!
There’s also a 3DS game in the works, though this one is a turn-based strategy game developed by Webfoot Technologies. Season three of the show starts tomorrow, and the game will be out this Fall.
Transformers: Dark Spark, Valiant Hearts, Grid: Autosport, more added to PS Store

We’re getting an incredibly diverse selection of new games in this week’s PlayStation Store update.
The biggest new game is Activision’s latest Transformers adaptation, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. The title merges the Transformers movieverse with High Moon’s popular War For/Fall of Cybertron games, though Edge of Reality is the developer on this installment. Rise of the Dark Spark is available to download for the PS3 and PS4.
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum from gigantic robots bashing each other is Ubisoft’s Valiant Hearts: The Great War. This puzzle platformer, which is also available for the PS3 and PS4, is set during World War I and features a unique hand-drawn art style.
Other new releases available this week include…
- Grid: Autosport (PS3), the latest installment in Codemasters’ popular racing series.
- BlazBlue: Chronophantasma, a Vita release of the one-on-one fighting game.
- XBlaze Code: Embryo (PS3, Vita), a visual novel prequel to the BlazBlue series.
- Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon (PS2 Classic), the cult RPG series is back with another classic entry.
More information on all of these games (as well as a few others) can be found after the break. And a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
Game Critics Awards has announced their Best of E3 2014 nominees

The Best of E3 2014 nominees are in, and Evolve is currently leading the pack with six nominations (Best of Show, Best Original Game, Best Console Game, Best PC Game, Best Action Game, and Best Online Multiplayer). The rest of the Best in Show games all have multiple nominations as well – Alien: Isolation, Batman: Arkham Knight, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, No Man’s Sky, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege. After all the attention it’s gotten, I’m surprised Sunset Overdrive isn’t on that list, but it’s on a few others.
Check out the full list of nominees after the jump.

Watch Dogs Review: A Bit Ruff

Watch Dogs was unveiled in 2012 at Ubisoft’s E3 Press Conference to the adoration of the entire industry. Over the past year, the Internet hype machine went into full effect, fueled by Ubisoft themselves and the fervor of online commenting communities. After that initial reveal, conjecture naturally sprung up around the web. Would the game look that good? Would the open world really be that open? With Ubisoft sending out trailer after trailer, Watch Dogs was labelled as a coming-of-age party for the next generation in terms of graphics and gameplay.
But the hype train is a bad one to catch, and it has not helped Watch Dogs, making it feel far less than it should be after the initial reveal. After experiencing much of the game’s content, what you end up with is a title that is actually still quite fun to play, but oddly uncompelling. (more…)
Stop (In the Name of Love) for Richard Sherman’s Madden NFL 15 cover
Box art reveals are usually pretty boring. Take a nice piece of concept art… emblazon the logo along the top… slap an ESRB rating in the bottom left corner… and you’re done. They only become newsworthy when a publisher does something stupendously weird (such as the word salad on Batman: Arkham City‘s “Game of the Year” cover) or ridiculously neat (such as the minimalist Resistance 3 cover).
The official Madden NFL 15 cover falls in the former category.
I don’t know if cover athlete Richard Sherman is auditioning to become a traffic cop or if he really loves “Stop In the Name of Love,” but it’s definitely an odd choice for the Madden box. It’s possible he’s doing something football-related like reaching out for a high five or stiff-arming a wide receiver, but the whole thing just looks off somehow. A part of me thinks that whichever EA Sports employee it was that made the final cover choice has to be a fan of the Denver Broncos.
Madden NFL 15 will be available for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on August 26.
CoD: Ghosts Invasion DLC will be available for PC, PS3, PS4 on July 3
PC and PlayStation Call of Duty players should start getting hyped! The Call of Duty: Ghosts third DLC pack, Invasion, will be available to download on the PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 starting July 3.
With Invasion, players will get “Awakening,” the third part in Extinction, the four-part episodic storyline. They’ll also get four brand-new multiplayer maps: “Departed,” “Pharaoh,” “Mutiny,” and “Favela.” Players can pay either $14.99 for the Invasion DLC, or get it for a discounted price through the Call of Duty: Ghosts Season Pass.
Pick up the Call of Duty: Ghosts Invasion DLC pack on July 3 for $14.99 on PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

New Releases: Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, Grid: Autosport, Xblaze, More

Believe it or not, a good variety of new games will be available on store shelves this week.
We start things off with Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, which will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. High Moon Studios originated the War For/Fall of Cybertron series of Transformers game, but they’re out for Rise of the Dark Spark as development duties were given to Edge of Reality by Activision. A handheld companion to Rise of the Dark Spark, developed by WayForward, will also make its way to the 3DS this week. And if you’d prefer your cars to be non-transforming, Codemasters will release Grid: Autosport for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this week.
Also available this week is Xblaze: Code Embryo, a PS3 and Vita “visual novel” spinoff of Arc System Works’ popular BlazBlue fighting series.
A complete list of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)
