Activision is bringing CoD: Ghosts, Destiny, Skylanders Swap Force to E3 2013

activisionlogo

Activision has unveiled their E3 2013 lineup and, unlike past years, it is not an unwieldy behemoth that seems to go forever. The biggest third-party publisher is going laser-focused for this year’s expo and focusing on three titles: Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Ghosts, Bungie’s Destiny, and the third game in their mega-popular Skylanders series, Skylanders Swap Force.

And speaking of Skylanders Swap Force, Activision also confirmed that the game will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One (because, of course it is) and that the 3DS, PS3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360 versions will be available on October 13.

More details on all three of these titles can be found after the break. (more…)

  • Lost Planet 3 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Kiefer Sutherland is the voice of Snake in Metal Gear Solid V

metalgearsolidv-kiefer

Ever since we heard his voice in the GDC 2013 trailer, we’ve known that Kiefer Sutherland was connected to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in some way. Today, Konami and Hideo Kojima have confirmed that he will be voicing Snake in the upcoming open-world game.

In addition to lending his voice to the character, Sutherland will also perform the motion capture for Snake. Appearing on Konami’s Pre-E3 2013 Show, Kojima revealed that he is very excited about Sutherland’s motion capture performance and plans to develop the script around his acting, making the dialogue more succinct and hoping Snake’s facial expressions can convey the rest.

David Hayter, who previously Snake in every previous Metal Gear Solid game, won’t be involved with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. According to Kojima, he wanted a new voice actor for Snake that would more closely match the character’s age in the game (which is 49). Apparently Hayter, who is 44, was just a bit too young for the part (Sutherland, by the way, is 46).

Diablo III to be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 3

diabloiii-ps3-boxToday, Blizzard announced that Diablo III will make the jump to consoles on September 3. Yes, consoles, plural. Surprising no one, the developer revealed that the game will be released for the Xbox 360 in addition to the previously announced PS3 version.

“Playing Diablo III on a big screen with your friends brings a whole new level of intensity to the game, and with all of the control and interface adaptations we’ve made, it’s extremely fun to play on PS3 and Xbox 360,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard Entertainment. “In addition to the fine-tuning we’ve done for the console versions, we’re also including major content and design updates we’ve made to the PC version over the past year, so players can expect an epic Diablo gaming experience when the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions launch in September.”

Players who pre-order Diablo III for the PS3 or Xbox 360 (which will retail for $59.99) will receive a special in-game item: the Infernal Helm. Any character wearing the Infernal Helm will receive an experience point boost, “accelerating their progression as they rise in power.” Retailer-specific pre-order bonuses will also be available.

Diablo III is also in development for the PlayStation 4 and will presumably be available as a launch title for Sony’s next system. After today’s announcement of the game for the Xbox 360, I also fully expect an Xbox One edition to be announced soon.

The Last of Us multiplayer finally revealed by Naughty Dog

With just a week and a half to go before The Last of Us is available in stores, Sony and Naughty Dog have finally unveiled the game’s multiplayer component.

The game’s multiplayer mode is referred to as Factions and players will be able to side with either the Hunters or the Fireflies and from there it branches off into two gametypes: Supply Raid and Survivors.

In Supply Raid, you’ll have to scavenge the area and keep your team alive. Your team has a pool of twenty reinforcements. Once the reinforcements have been exhausted, the match will go into sudden death. In Survivors, you’re going to have to be extremely vigilant. There are no respawns. Once you’re gone you’ve been eliminated until the next round. It’s a best of seven rounds in which the first team to win four rounds wins the match.

Eric Monacelli, Naughty Dog’s Community Strategist is pretty proud of Factions and told the PlayStation Blog: “The moment-to-moment survival present in the single-player campaign is integral to the multiplayer. You’ll feel tension and need to be intensely alert at all times.”

The Last of Us will be available exclusively for the PS3 on June 14.

PSN Today: Remember Me, EDF: Insect Armageddon, Limbo Vita, more

earthdefenseforceinsectarmageddon-header

You’ll never forget today’s PlayStation Store update… and that’s not just a play on Capcom’s Remember Me! But yes, Capcom’s noirish third-person action game has been added to the PlayStation Store today alongside two fantastic games now available to download for the first time.

D3’s Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon was released for the PS3 in 2011 and a downloadable version is now available on the PlayStation Network. Shooting armored alien ants was fun two years ago and it’s still fun today.

Also available today is Playdead’s Limbo. The moody platformer was also originally released for the PS3 in 2011, but today’s re-release is for the Vita. Best of all, it’s a Cross-Buy game with the PS3 version.

More details about the above titles and a few other new releases (including Class of Heroes 2 for the PSP) can be found after the break. And the complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

Injustice to Mortal Kombat’s Scorpion: “Get over here!”

Crossovers are a comic book creator’s best friend. So when it was rumored that Scorpion would be coming to Injustice: Gods Among Us as a DLC character, everyone just assumed it was the real deal. This morning, NetherRealm Studios officially announced that Scorpion (redesigned by DC Entertainment’s Jim Lee) will soon be joining the fight.

Scorpion’s brand new redesign looks fantastic, but his Injustice moveset looks very similar to the attacks he used in the Mortal Kombat reboot. Like the other DLC characters before him, Scorpion has been priced at $5/400 Microsoft Points on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.

Finally, after Scorpion sends Blackest Night Superman to Hell, the trailer ends with a stinger hinting at the fourth DLC character: Martian Manhunter.
