New Releases: Etrian Odyssey IV, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus, More

newreleases022613

Atlus’ DS RPG series makes the leap to the 3DS as Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan leads this week’s look at what’s new in stores. Also available this week, Ryu Hayabusa returns to a Sony portable platform (along with three beautiful assistants: Ayane, Rachel, and Momiji) in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus for the Vita.

If you’ve skipped the DLC content for Borderlands 2 so far, but don’t want to wait for the inevitable Game of the Year Edition, you might be interested in checking out the Borderlands 2: Add-On Content Pack for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It smushes the first two expansions and the Mechromancer character class onto a single disc (which requires Borderlands 2) for a decent price. Motorcycle racing game Mud: FIM Motocross World Championship is also available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 this week.

Finally, this week sees the release of the Kinect-powered Top Hand Rodeo Tour, which I imagine just asks you to do the “Gangnam Style” dance in your living room under the guise of taming a bucking bull.

Armored Core: Verdict Day coming this Fall to PS3, Xbox 360

armoredcoreverdictday-header

From Software’s newest entry in their long-running mech series, Armored Core: Verdict Day, is scheduled to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 this Fall. The news was broken in a press release from publisher Namco Bandi.

The title puts gamers in a world thrown in chaos where, “Important natural resources needed for the survival of competing factions are scavenged and fought across the world with deadly Armored Core mechs. A strong trigger finger, innovative customization and strategic teamwork will be all that stand between survival and complete annihilation.”

If you’ve got a save game file from Armored Core V, you’ll be able to continue using it in Verdict Day. Also returning is the Operator Mode, which Namco Bandai promises will be enhanced with “new upgrades,” including the ability of players to “tactically command a full squad of Armored Core mechs from a tactical top-down point-of-view.” Finally, a persistent multiplayer mode will be available so you never have to play.

But if you want to, AI-controlled teammates will always be nearby.

Diablo III for PS3 will be playable at PAX East 2013

After years of hints (which started before the PC version was even released), Blizzard has finally announced the existence of the console of Diablo III. And we’ll get our first chance to play it at this year’s PAX East expo (March 22-24).

Sadly, Blizzard is only bringing the PS3 version to Boston. So if you were hoping to get your hands on the new DualShock 4 controller, I’m sorry to disappoint. But the PS3 version is better than nothing, right?

“Diablo III looks and plays great on the PlayStation,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We put a lot of care and thought into the PlayStation version to make sure it would deliver an authentic Diablo gaming experience, and we’re really pleased with the results. We can’t wait for players to try it out at PAX East.”

Diablo III on the PS3 will feature all of the enhancements found in the latest edition of the game including “the Paragon leveling system, customizable Monster Power, Brawling, and epic Legendary items.” PS3 players should be on the lookout for “an all-new user interface, including an intuitive control scheme and a new dynamic camera perspective.”

Oh yeah, and couch co-op for up to four people as well.

PS4 Game Announcements: New Final Fantasy title, Watch Dogs, Diablo III

playstationplainlogoA trio of quick third-party announcements from Sony’s Meeting 2013:

Shinji Hashimoto, the Final Fantasy Brand Director at Square Enix, revealed that a new Final Fantasy title for the PS4 will be unveiled at E3 this year.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced that the toast of E3 2012, Watch Dogs, will be available for the PlayStation 4.

Chris Metzen of Blizzard has announced that the developer and Sony have agreed to a “strategic partnership through which we will take over the world.” But in reality, it’s Diablo III for the PlayStation 4… and the PlayStation 3. Metzen promises four-player couch co-op and a public debut for the console version of Diablo III soon.

crysis3-header

This week’s PlayStation Store update was a bit late on the upload, but I suppose Sony can be forgiven. After all, tomorrow is a big day for the consolemaker.

The big new addition in today’s update is definitely Crysis 3. Crytek’s first person shooter series returns to the PS3 with a new locale (Rainforest New York City!) and a wild new weapon (The Predator Bow!). It can yours for the standard new game price of $59.99.

Also available this week is the first installment in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet. The “1987 Pack” includes 1943: Battle of Midway, Black Dragon, and Avengers.

Finally, portable players will be happy to know that the Vita game Patapon 3 and two PSP games, Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi and Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection, are available to download now.

A complete list of this week’s new games can be found after the break and a complete list of this week’s new game add-ons (including Skyrim‘s “Hearthfire” content) can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

First Murdered: Soul Suspect trailer asks you to solve your own murder

“The hardest murder to solve is your own.”

That’s the premise behind Square Enix’s latest game, Murdered: Soul Suspect. The vague and moody trailer above hints at a ghostly explanation for a man’s murder and the supernatural means he’ll employ to solve his own untimely demise. Or maybe not. Remember, moody, but also vague.

Murdered: Soul Suspect is now in development for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It’ll likely be released sometime this year.

Dennaton Games has announced they plan to bring the pixelated bloodshed of Hotline Miami to the PS3 and Vita this Spring.

“Our team have been fans of Hotline Miami from the very start and we are absolutely thrilled to have such a brilliant game launch on the PlayStation platform,” said Shahid Ahmad, the Senior Business Development Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “The intense visuals and pulsing soundtrack are perfectly suited for PS3 and PS VIta and we can’t wait for PlayStation fans to see what Hotline Miami is all about.”

The stylish overhead shooter will be ported to the PS3 and Vita by Abstraction Games. And as with many of this year’s PSN games, it’ll be available as a PS3/Vita Cross-Buy title. So if you buy one, you’ll get both.
