Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Review: The Buddy System Scuffle

We are currently in the midst of a fighting game renaissance. From the arcade cabinets in the days of yore, to the couches of the 1990s, and finally to the heated tournaments today, the genre has evolved from a casual experience to an almost chess-like battle of the intellects. Dedicated fighters spend months perfecting their move sets and combos, and study their opponents’ battles to look for any hints of weaknesses. Tournaments such as EVO are held every year, where the best players take home thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. It’s become a full-blown extravaganza.
Learning a fighting game nowadays take time and persistence. Sure, you can button-mash and win a few fights here and there; but in order to be the best, you need to learn the intricacies. One must have a detailed knowledge of hit boxes, cancels, and the like in order to get the most out of your character. This is where Tekken Tag Tournament 2 excels: not just as a fighting game, but as a game worthy of your time and commitment. Because the first time you successfully pull off a combo into a bound into a tag assault into another combo, you’ll earn yourself a well-deserved feeling of satisfaction.
And that’s just a fraction of what this game offers. (more…)

Nippon Ichi announces Disgaea Dimension 2 for PS3

After several sequels starring new characters and taking the story in new directions, Nippon Ichi is bringing back Laharl for the upcoming Disgaea Dimension 2, a direct sequel to 2003’s Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
Disgaea Dimension 2 will be available on Japanese store shelves for the PS3 on March 20, 2013. A North American release date has yet to be announced, but NIS America hasn’t confined a single game in the franchise to Japan, so it’s only a matter of time.

Walking Dead Collector’s Edition includes 1088-page comic compendium

Telltale’s season one compilation of The Walking Dead will arrive in stores for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on December 4. But if you happen to find yourself inside a GameStop between now and then, you can also pre-order a special Collector’s Edition of the adventure game.
Priced at $69.99 and available only by pre-ordering, The Walking Dead: Collector’s Edition includes a PS3 or Xbox 360 game disc, a colorful box with artwork by Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard, and an exclusive edition of The Walking Dead: Compendium One. Compendium One is the 1088-page collected edition of the first 48 issues of the comic series and this exclusive version of the book includes a new cover with art by Adlard.
Compendium One‘s retail price is $59.99 by itself (though you can get it from Amazon for under $35), so this Collector’s Edition is a pretty good deal if you want to explore the origins of the comic series. Though exclusive cover art has certainly lured a comic fan or two to unnecessarily empty their wallet over the years.

Anarchy Reigns across US, Europe in January 2013

After inexplicably pushing the American release of Anarachy Reigns into limbo back in May, Sega confirmed today the game will make its way across the Pacific this January. Not only will the PS3 and Xbox 360 game be released on January 8 (January 11 in Europe), but it’ll also be available at a great price: $29.99.
“Focusing on online play with Anarchy Reigns presented a new challenge for us here at Platinum Games,” added Atsushi Inaba, Executive Director/Producer at Platinum Games. “Very few games fall under its genre of a melee-based online multiplayer brawler, so I think we’ve been able to supply a new kind of excitement that you can’t find anywhere else. While some time has passed since its Japan release, I look forward to having gamers in North American and Europe enjoy the Anarchy!”
