First Injustice trailer, screenshots released

A day after the announcement of their first non-Mortal Kombat game in a long time, NetherRealm Studios has released the first trailer and screenshots for Injustice: Gods Among Us. And what do you know, it looks just like Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, just minus the Mortal Kombat characters.

Not that that’s a bad thing of course.

Injustice: Gods Among Us will be released for the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 sometime next year. You can check out the first screenshots after the break. (more…)

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 confirmed with teaser trailer

A massive army of armor-clad knights attempts to storm Castlevania as Dracula broods inside. Rather than wait for them, he floats onto the battlefield in a smoky fog and unleashes a whip attack made of vampiric energy to fell the knights. He even manages to defeat some kind of medieval Transformer. Just when he think he’s won, a “mysterious stranger” with flowing white hair and a huge sword enters the battlefield.

That’s how Konami announced Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. And the debut trailer for the Mercury Steam-developed game is even better if you view it yourself.

Lara Croft raids her first tomb on March 5, 2013

“I hate tombs.”

It sounds like Lara Croft’s “female Indiana Jones” schtick hasn’t yet become her day job in this E3 2012 trailer for the rebooted Tomb Raider. The PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 game is now set for a March 5, 2013 and it looks to pack a punch. Lara’s “first adventure” is all about surviving this tomb raid and some of the action setpieces look like they would make Nathan Drake have a panic attack.

First freakin’ sweet details of Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse revealed

Are these details freakin’ sweet?

Nah. To steal another common Family Guy catchphrase, I’m just yankin’ ya. Even with these initial plot details, we still don’t really know anything about Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse.

We know it was written by “talent” from the show and we know it stars Brian and Stewie. We also know it’s based on the “Multiverse” episode and that the main villain is Bertram.

Even if we didn’t know these things yesterday, their announcement is still less unexpected than the time Ted Turner impregnated Carter Pewterschmidt’s dog. Here’s what Activision had to say:

Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse features an all-new original narrative that is an expansion on the popular episode, “Road to the Multiverse.” It turns the outrageous world of Family Guy into an action-packed video game filled with nods to the long-running comedy. Playing as either Stewie or Brian, each with unique abilities and weapons, players will battle their favourite Family Guy characters as they advance through Multiverse-themed levels in their pursuit to battle Stewie’s evil twin, Bertram, who has returned and is hell-bent on destroying Quahog. Fans will also be able to team up in co-op multiplayer mode or compete against each other in competitive multiplayer levels – all with a Family Guy twist.

NetherRealm’s next game is the DC Comics fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us

WB Games has announced that the next game from NetherRealm Studios, the creators of the Mortal Kombat series, will be Injustice: Gods Among Us. Described as a “bold new fighting game franchise,” Injustice will pit heroes and villains from the DC Comics universe against each other in “in epic battles on a massive scale.”

Think of it as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, but without all those pesky ninjas.

Like the last two Mortal Kombat titles, Injustice will have a “deep, original story” that features such DC mainstays as Batman, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and many others.

“We can’t wait to reveal Injustice: Gods Among Us because it will give our fans and gamers an epic experience as they battle like gods as their favorite DC Comics villains and heroes,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios. “Our team is excited to make a fighting game that is filled with fast-paced action, incredible story-telling and iconic DC Comics characters.”

Warner Bros. will be bringing Injustice: Gods Among Us to the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 sometime in 2013.

Insomniac reveals Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault for PSN

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Lombax mechanic Ratchet and his sentient robot sidekick Clank later this year, Insomniac Games are currently retooling three PS2 games from the series for an HD re-release. The Ratchet & Clank Collection (or Ratchet & Clank Trilogy as it is known in PAL territories) will feature, the original Ratchet & Clank, as well as its two sequels, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal.

In addition to all this though, Insomniac have heeded their fans’ wishes and created a brand new adventure featuring the galaxy-saving duo, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, exclusive to the PlayStation Network.

“Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault is a fun-sized Ratchet adventure which will be available for download exclusively on the PlayStation Store. We’ve returned to the series’ classic feel, camera, controls and weapons, while innovating and giving you a whole new way to play,” said Ted Price, CEO of Insomniac Games.

Since Insomniac likes to rename everything for the European market, the game will be known there as the rather more trite and non-suggestive Ratchet & Clank: Q-Force. While discussing the announcement, Insomniac Community Manager James Stevenson stated that the new title would be “closer to Quest for Booty than A Crack in Time,” and also that there would be a region-free physical edition release in Europe as well as the digital download.

Guardians of Middle-Earth coming to PSN, XBLA this Fall

To tie-in with Peter Jackson’s upcoming film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment has announced plans for a new multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game set within the Tolkien universe. In development at Monolith Productions, Guardians of Middle-Earth will be available this Fall, ahead of the film’s December 14, 2012 opening.

According to Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President of Production and Development at WBIE, the company hopes that the downloadable title for both Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network will recreate the success of MOBAs on PC, such as DOTA and League of Legends, in the console market: “The MOBA genre is wildly popular with PC players and we are excited to bring it to consoles through the lore of Middle-Earth. The heroes and villains of Middle-Earth are crafted in a way that perfectly intersects with MOBA game features, allowing the development team to create guardians with deep skills and abilities for gamers to master.”

The game will feature five versus five engagements, either with 10 live players or with AI combatants, as well as standard MOBA traits such as voice-chat and in-game currency. Although there will initially be 20 characters to choose from, including Gandalf the Grey, Sauron, Gollum and Thrain II, father to Thorin, more will be added as the release date of the film draws nearer.
