Aliens: Colonial Marines mostly comes out in February 2013, mostly
Sega and developer Gear Box Software have delayed Aliens: Colonial Marines again! If I were the pessimistic sort, I’d be screaming game over, man! Game over! But I’m willing to give Gearbox the benefit of the doubt, especially after viewing the excellent new trailer above.
The game is now scheduled for a February 12, 2013 release on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The release date of the Wii U version will be announced “at a later time.”
Aliens: Colonial Marines just can’t seem to catch a break as this is the fourth or fifth release date delay (I’ve honestly lost count) since the game was announced in 2006. But Gearbox President Randy Pitchford wants to assure fans that it’s really coming this time:
“I am thrilled to announce the definitive launch date for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Aliens: Colonial Marines is the culmination of a life-time of inspiration from the films and relentless passion and drive from the exceptionally talented development team behind the scenes.”
No reason was given for the delay.
Bond’s first mission in 007: Legends is Moonraker
Did you ever see Moonraker? Quick! What’s the most memorable thing from the movie? If you said anything other than “Jaws gets lucky,” you’ve got a better memory for terrible cinema than I do. Although, to be fair, it did also include a Bond girl whose name was a single-entendre, Dr. Holly Goodhead.
But if you need a Moonraker refresher course, check out the first trailer above from 007: Legends, which now includes Moonraker as the first of Bond’s six missions in the game. Well, I guess technically it’s the second mission revealed as Activision previously announced the game would end with a Skyfall-inspired mission.
Oh, and speaking of Skyfall, the first trailer for the 23rd Bond film is also now online. So be sure to give it a watch!
007: Legends will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 16. Which is just three and a half weeks ahead of the movie’s November 9 premiere.

Activision revs up NASCAR: Inside Line this Fall

After the successful release of last year’s NASCAR 2011: The Game, Activision and Eutechnyx are teaming up again to bring us NASCAR: Inside Line this Fall. Like NASCAR 2011, Inside Line promises to bring “the true NASCAR experience” into our living rooms and is in development for the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
To fulfill their desire for realism, Eutechnyx plans to “allow players to race with the top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers, teams and cars” and the game will include all 23 officially licensed racetracks from the 2012 Sprint Cup Series.
“We set out to reinvent NASCAR gaming last year with NASCAR 2011: The Game – and we’re very proud of it. With our continued enhancements to that game, and our very passionate fans helping guide us, we have an amazing platform to go to the next level with NASCAR: Inside Line,” said Dave Thompson, Executive Producer at Eutechnyx. “We’ve added a new in-depth career mode and robust online features that include realistic race weekends, and now aspiring drivers can rise up through the ranks, attract sponsors, and upgrade their car’s components in the quest to be the Sprint Cup Series Champion.”

More Sega classics on their way to PSN, XBLA

Sega has announced they plan to bring more classic games from the Master System/Genesis era to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this month. Sega is calling this latest wave of classics “Vintage Collection 3,” and that moniker is more than apt.
Xbox 360 gamers will receive 12 Sega classics over the next two weeks. The titles will be released as special three-game collections for a very nice price (800 Microsoft Points/$10 each). Check out the release schedule right here:
Monster World Collection (5/23)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade)
Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis)
Monster World IV (Genesis)
Alex Kidd & Co. Collection (5/23)
Super Hang-On (Arcade)
The Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)
Golden Axe Collection (5/30)
Golden Axe (Arcade)
Golden Axe 2 (Genesis)
Golden Axe 3 (Genesis)
Streets of Rage Collection (5/30)
Streets of Rage (Genesis)
Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis)
Streets of Rage 3 (Genesis)
Sega also has six classic titles on tap for the PlayStation Store on May 22. Why the difference? Because the PSN got all three Streets of Rage games and all three Golden Axe games months ago. So with that knowledge, we know that Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Monster World IV, Super Hang-On, The Revenge of Shinobi, and Alex Kidd in Miracle World will all be available as individual downloads on the PSN this week for $4.99 each.

New Releases: Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Dragon’s Dogma, Sorcery, More

Can you manage to pull yourself away from Diablo III long enough to check out this week’s new releases? Who knows, you might even find something interesting.
For example, how about Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier? The latest game in the squad-based shooter franchise will finally be available this week on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Also available this week is Dragon’s Dogma, Capcom’s hybrid single-player/co-op dragon hunting game for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Other new releases this week include Sony’s Move-enable magician sim, Sorcery, and the “don’t call it a tie-in game” tie-in game, Men In Black: Alien Crisis (PS3, Wii, Xbox 360).
Finally, the 320 GB PlayStation 3 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 system bundle should make it’s way to store shelves by Friday, May 25.
A complete list of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)

38 Studios makes loan payment, will release Amalur MMO in June 2013
Former Major League pitcher Curt Schilling has turned in another gutsy performance to continue a different impossible dream. In 2004, it was the “bloody sock” that lead to Boston’s first World Series win in decades. And today, it delivering a check to the state of Rhode Island to save his company, 38 Studios.
The state of Rhode Island lent $75 million to the team at 38 Studios to help finance their move into the state as well as the company’s MMO, which is codenamed Project Copernicus. According to the developer, none of the money was used on this year’s single-player RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, which was developed in Maryland at Big Huge Games. The MMO, which is also set in the kingdom of Amalur, is currently scheduled to ship in June 2013. A first look at the game, dubbed a “fly-through” by 38 Studios, can be found after the break.
The $1.125 million payment on the loan is just the first of many that 38 Studios will have to make over the next several years including a $2.6 million payment in November and another $12.6 million in 2013. (more…)

Lollipop Chainsaw special edition includes Buffybot
The makers of Lollipop Chainsaw have released a new live-action trailer promoting the game’s special edition. If your wallet can handle it, you can head down to your favorite retailer on June 12 and come away with a copy of the game and a life-size Juliet Starling robot that will “do anything.”
Warning: The Lollipop Chainsaw special edition doesn’t exist, so you won’t be able to purchase a robotic Juliet-in-a-box. Nor does such a robot even exist. I’m sorry.
Is this video a comment on the out-of-control contents of some special editions and the pre-teen mindset of most male gamers? Or is it an obvious reference to the Buffybot from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Or is this just another excuse to have Jessica Nigri prance around in Juliet’s barely there cheerleader costume?
You decide!

PlayStation Store to offer early pre-loading starting with Sorcery

Being able to pre-download an unreleased game is one of the coolest features that Steam has to offer. And now, a similar “Pre-Buy” feature is available to PlayStation Network users.
Starting today (at least in Europe), gamers can pre-purchase Sorcery and download it to their PS3 system. The game will unlock when the Move-enabled magician sim is released on Tuesday, May 22. More games will include a “Pre-Buy” option in the future.
The “Pre-Buy” option should open up for PSN users in North America soon.
