GoldenEye: Reloaded gets its license to kill on 11/1; PS3-only Double 0 Edition announced
Activision has announced that James Bond will return on November 1. The superspy’s greatest video game adventure will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 as GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, complete with an HD coat of paint courtesy of developer Eurocom.
PS3 players will be able to take the James Bond experience further with the exclusive Double 0 Edition, which was also announced by Activision today. The Double 0 Edition will include a copy of the game, PlayStation Move motion and navigation controllers, a PlayStation Eye camera and the Sharp Shooter peripheral. The package will also include a bonus downloadable character, Hugo Drax. And yes, the supervillain behind 1979’s Moonraker will be packing a Moonraker Laser.
“Working closely with Sony, we’ve created a great bundle that arms fans with all the vital secret agent equipment right off the shelf,” said David Oxford, Executive Vice President at Activision Publishing. “We can’t wait for gamers to pick up the PlayStation Move and Sharp Shooter to experience a James Bond video game like never before.”
Q would approve.

Dead or Alive 5 coming to PS3, Xbox 360 in 2012; debut trailer released

It has been almost six years since Dead or Alive 4 was released as a launch title for the then-new Xbox 360. In that time series creator Tomonobu Itagaki and publisher Tecmo Koei have parted ways, Dead or Alive: Code Chronos was canceled and a bevy of spinoff titles have been released.
Today, Tecmo Koei used their Tokyo Game Show presentation to reveal that a fifth game in the main series, Dead or Alive 5, is in the works for the PS3 and Xbox 360. While development is still in the early stages, Tecmo Koei and developer Team Ninja wowed TGS attendees with a teaser trailer starring Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate fighting in a warehouse. Be sure to check out the trailer for yourself after the break.
The publisher also refused to call Dead or Alive 5 “just a fighting game,” preferring instead to call it “fighting entertainment.” Ah euphemisms, where would we be without them?

God of War Origins, From Dust, Renegade Ops, more added to PS Store
Prepare yourself PS3 owners, Sony has graced the PlayStation Store with another massive update that is sure to include something for everyone.
Leading the way this week is a downloadable version of God of War: Origins Collection. The HD remake of Kratos’s PSP adventures is also available in retail stores today.
Today’s PSN Play entry is Renegade Ops, a vehicular combat game from Sega where the vehicle combat doesn’t involve a tournament for psychopaths. I know, right? Instead, players get behind the wheel of “an elite mobile commando unit sent behind enemy lines to defeat Inferno, a madman intent on global domination!”
Also available this week is Eric Chahi’s god game, From Dust; budget racer Ferrari: The Race Experience; a downloadable version of Epic’s Bulletstorm; Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness, a Capcom fighter that never before made it to America; and PSone Classic Pong: The Next Level.
More information on all of this week’s new releases and game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation.Blog.

Quantic Dream “lost” $8-16 million because of used sales
Another developer is pissing and moaning about secondhand sales and this time it’s Quantic Dream, the team behind Heavy Rain. Guillaume de Fondaumiere, the company’s co-founder, recently sat down for an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. During the exchange, he laid out the details of the company’s “lost sales” due to the used game market:
“I think [second hand gaming] is one of the number one problems right now in the industry.
“I can take just one example of Heavy Rain – we basically sold to date approximately two million units, we know from the trophy system that probably more than three million people bought this game and played it. On my small level it’s a million people playing my game without giving me one cent. And my calculation is, as Quantic Dream, I lost between [$8 and $16] million worth of royalties because of second hand gaming.”
Ignoring the fact that de Fondaumiere seems to have completely forgotten the rental market for Heavy Rain, he is falling into the same trap as other developers who rail against used games: if someone buys it used, there’s no guarantee they would have bought it new. He goes on to say that if gamers stop buying games like Heavy Rain new, developers will stop making them:
“Because when developers and publishers alike are going to see that they can’t make a living out of producing games that are sold through retail channels, because of second hand gaming, they will simply stop making these games.”
This is obviously a man who clearly doesn’t get it. If developers aren’t making enough money from retail sales, the answer isn’t to crack down on used sales (as if that were even legal). Instead, they should be looking for ways to get development costs down and make gamers want to buy new.
Nah, that’d make too much sense.

Square Enix still refuses to announce an HD remake of Final Fantasy VII. However, remake fever seems to be contagious at the Tokyo Game Show and you better believe that Squenix is a carrier.
