Star Trek game announced, details at E3

Since the success of J.J. Abrams’ take on Star Trek, there’s been a couple game outings utilizing the license, but nothing like this.

Paramount Digital Entertainment has announced the co-op, action adventure Star Trek, featuring an original, stand-alone story. God of War writer and BAFTA award winner Marianne Krawczyk has teamed up with Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman, writers and producers of the current Star Trek films, to tell a new story of Spock and Kirk, working together “to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy.” The game is under development at Digital Extremes, known for the Unreal series and the upcoming The Darkness II, with an offering that “challenges the boundaries of co-op gameplay.”

With bold claims and enticing promises, Star Trek will release on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in Summer 2012. Paramount will unveil more details about the game at next week’s E3 Expo.

D3’s E3 lineup is Ben 10 kart game, EDF: Insect Armageddon, White Knight II

D3 Publisher – known for their hilarious tongue twisters (D3’s Dream Trigger 3D for the 3DS, anyone?) – has a short but powerful E3 lineup.

Ben 10 Galactic Racing is a kart game in the Ben 10 universe, featuring tracks on five planets and “four-player multiplayer mayhem.” Earth Defense Force: Insect Armaggedon brings giant insects and aliens to Earth once again, calling on the EDF to stop them. And White Knight Chronicles II is the long-awaited (at least, for Mike Gutierrez) sequel by Level-5 that is finally coming to America.

More information can be found at D3 Publisher’s website. Check out full details of their lineup after the jump. (more…)

Uncharted 3 Collector’s Edition is off the charts

Naughty Dog has announced that there will be an Uncharted 3:Drake’s Deception Collector’s Edition, and, if you’ll pardon me quoting Sully, it’s pretty god damn awesome. There’s an exclusive steelbook case for the game, a Nathan Drake statue from Sideshow Collectibles, a full size replica of Drake’s belt buckle from Uncharted 3, and – perhaps my favorite – a replica of Drake’s necklace, with Sir Francis Drake’s ring on it. All of this comes in a traveling chest replica, which in itself is pretty sick. This whole package is priced at $99.99 and will be sold at the typical retailers.

But wait… there’s more! Each retailer will have exclusive pre-order bonuses – because who isn’t tired of that? Pick your poison:

  • GameStop – Creepy Crawly Kickback (“allows you, when you’ve scored the requisite number of Medals, to turn into a swarm of deadly creatures to overwhelm your opponents as long as you’ve got time left on the Kickback countdown timer”)
  • Best Buy – Regeneration Booster (“increases your healing rate in multiplayer, so that you can recover from your wounds and re-enter battle with full health sooner”)
  • Wal-Mart – Callout Weapon Mod (“allows you to equip your old friend, the AK-47, with a laser sight that enables your entire team to see the location of the opponent you are currently targeting”)

Last – but never least – is Amazon, which gives you a whopping three bonuses – two Weapon Mods and a Kickback. The Carpet Bomb Kickback “allows you to send out three grenades with a single throw to blanket your opponent – or take out a group of opponents – with multiple explosions,” while the Clip Size Mods for the Para- 9 and G-MAL “increase the size of your bullet clip, allowing you to trade more shots with your opponent before you have to reload.” Check out Arne Meyer’s full report at the PlayStation Blog for more details.

This has me really excited, considering the precious rarity of the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Collector’s Edition. Naughty Dog is driving me crazy making me wait until November 1 for this game.

Square Enix’s E3 lineup includes playable Final Fantasy XIII-2

Final Fantasy XIII-2, which was first announced at Square Enix’s 1st Production Premier event back in January, will headline the publisher’s E3 slate.

The game will be playable for the first time on the E3 show floor, where it will be joined by other big titles like Hitman: Absolution, Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Suffice it to say, Square Enix has hugely embraced the Eidos Interactive properties they acquired back in 2009. Square Enix will also be showcasing Deep Silver’s Dead Island at their booth, which they will distribute in North America.

Hit the jump for a ton of information on Square Enix’s E3 lineup straight from the publisher. (more…)

Lara Croft is shipwrecked in the Tomb Raider E3 trailer

The gritty reboot of Tomb Raider finally has a trailer. The people at Eidos felt that Lara Croft was more of a super hero figure and wanted to create a more vulnerable Lara in this reboot. In essence, think of this as similar to Batman Begins. In the Batman movies, the superhero is portrayed as this unstoppable paragon of justice. Batman Begins analyzes the story of how he had to overcome his fears to be the nearly invulnerable Dark Knight. As such, this Tomb Raider reboot focuses on Lara just after she graduated college. She is taking in the world with a sense of wonder and she is very, very vulnerable. Eidos has stated that they are not afraid to let Lara die; there will be plenty of moments in the game where a gruesome death awaits our fledgling adventurer.

Tomb Raider will be part of Square Enix’s E3 showing next week.

Contra is coming back to consoles

Konami held their Pre-E3 Press Briefing today and one announcement stood out above all the rest (OK, for me, one announcement stood out above all the rest). And that announcement is a new Contra game for the current crop of consoles. The short teaser above just shows a fireball whipping its way across the screen until it morphs into the familar “C” logo with the tagline “They’re Coming”. Who? When? Where? Konami, I need to know!

Sadly, that’s all we know about the Contra reboot.

With E3 beginning in just a few days it’s easy to forget that there are still plenty of new releases planned for June. Square Enix’s Dungeon Siege III is one of them. The threequel is the first game in the action RPG series to make it to consoles and the publisher wants to introduce gamers to the world of Ehb with a new demo now available for the Xbox Live Marketplace. First Darkness II gameplay trailer is 4X as awesome as anything else

2K Games is very proud of the new quad-wielding gameplay mechanic found in The Darkness II. And with the releases of the sequel’s first gameplay trailer, it looks like they have a lot to be pround of. watch as main character Jackie Estacado holds a pistol in his left hand, a machine gun in his and uses the demonic tentactles known as The Darkness to impale a mobster with a pool cue while throwing another one down a hallway. Also be on the lookout for Jackie using The Darkness to throw a fan blade at a different mobster, naturally chopping him in half. Whoa!

The Darkness II will be on display at next week’s E3 Expo and will be released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 4.
