Portal 2 DLC #1 will be free on PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Valve didn’t waste any time in dropping the official announcement of downloadable content for Portal 2 as they revealed the “DLC #1” pack today.
First of all, the “#1” in the name is great news because it means that Valve is planning even more Portal 2 DLC for the future. But the best news of all is that Portal 2 DLC #1 will be available for free when it’s released on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this Summer.
And what will we get for our (lack) of money? According to Valve, Portal 2 DLC #1 will offer “new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more.” Pretty awesome. And did I mention it’ll be free?
Daily Scoop: April 29, 2011 – TMI edition
For all of those not in the know, TMI means Too Much Information, and that’s what you’re about to get. I got my endoscopy today! An endoscopy is a test where they stick a tube down your throat to check out your stomach to make sure everything is a-ok. I’m happy to say the test results were all clear! And I even got some cool pictures of my innards, which I’d be glad to post for the curious.
ANYWAY! Today’s Amazon Deal of the Day in video games is EA’s Shift 2 – Unleashed. It’s $39.95 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and $29.95 on PC. Our own Adam Woolcott really enjoyed it, so I’d say pick it up if you have a need for speed!
Nothing good on the daily shirt circuit, but this Penny Arcade shirt, affectionately titled It Only Does, is most likely selling like hotcakes:
Do you remember where you were, when the Playstation Network went down? I was riding a tortoise through an automatic car wash.
Next Week on Rock Band 3: Culture Club, Loverboy, STP and more
It’s Friday, and that means the fine folks at Harmonix have announced the next batch of songs for Rock Band 3. Six new tracks are on the way, from a variety of music sources:
- Culture Club – “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”
- Faith No More – “From Out of Nowhere”
- Loverboy – “Working for the Weekend” X
- Phish – “Stash” X
- Phish – “Tweezer”
- Stone Temple Pilots – “Big Bang Baby” X
Certainly an eclectic mix of 80s synth-pop, 1990s alternative, and whatever you classify Faith No More as. Shame that “Jizzlobber” isn’t FNM’s selection, though. Anyway, the tunes will be out Tuesday for 160 Microsoft Points, 200 Wii Points, or $1.99 American dollars per track… the latter obviously depending on whether Sony gets PlayStation Network up and running by then. Also, the X next to the song means for an extra dollar, one can upgrade to Pro Mode for guitar and bass if they possess the necessary equipment.

Sony evaluating “goodwill gesture” for PSN users
With the PlayStation Network still down and seemingly no end in sight, Sony has begun to investigate ways they can say “We’re sorry!” to gamers.
The latest update on the PlayStation.Blog confirms that user’s download history, friends list, settings, Trophies and PlayStation Plus cloud saves will be unaffected by the network outage.
The update also revealed that Sony wants to provide a goodwill gesture to gamers for their patience in dealing with the PSN outage and while they’re not ready to announce what it is just yet, the company is currently evaluating several different options. Though they did say that DC Universe Online and Free Realms players would receive some kind of compensation for the downtime as part of Sony’s “make good” plan.

EA announces Need For Speed: The Run
Shift 2: Unleashed has been in stores exactly a month and even though it doesn’t carry the Need For Speed name, EA still considers it a Need For Speed game. So it comes as a bit of a surprise that they’re already announcing the next title in the series: Need For Speed: The Run.
The Run is an “illicit, underground race” from San Francisco to New York City where you not only compete against the other drivers, but you put your life at stake as well. Essentially, it’s OutRun / Cruis’n USA with a plot (which EA says is “a new level of immersive storytelling with cutting edge performances”). The Run will run on EA’s Frostbite 2 engine and make use of the Autolog to track every twist and turn of the race through “dense urban traffic, icy mountain passes and narrow canyons at breakneck speeds.”
“This is the year that Need For Speed goes to the next level,” said Jason DeLong, Executive Producer at EA. “We think that Need For Speed: The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering — explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”
Need For Speed: The Run is being developed by EA Black Box and it’ll be available for the 3DS, PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 on November 15.
Jurassic Park launching on PC, PS3, Xbox 360 in Fall
PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners, prepare to say “Welcome to Jurassic Park!” this Fall when Telltale’s episodic game launches on the consoles as well as on the PC.
The game, which takes place concurrently with the events of the first movie, will be released simultaneously across all three platforms. PC and PS3 players will be able to obtain the game episodically through download services through services like Steam and the PSN while it’ll be available on the Xbox 360 as a disc-based game. Although, how that translates into a “simultaneous” release may require some magic on Telltale’s part.
I’m sure it’ll involve somebody holding onto their butts.

Binary Domain gets gameplay trailer; still looks like Terminator game
When Sega’s Binary Domain was first unveiled, it’s generic look turned off a lot of gamers. And this new gameplay trailer, Binary Domain’s first, doesn’t really change that. The game is clearly riffing on the storylines of The Terminator and The Matrix while borrowing robot design concepts from I, Robot. It’s really rather blatant.
But Binary Domain also looks like it could be a pretty awesome squad-based shooter when it’s released in early 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Red Faction: Armageddon delayed a week, demo announced
THQ has pushed back their next Martian excursion by a week. Red Faction: Armageddon will now be released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on June 7, instead of its original May 31st date. No reason was given for the delay, but perhaps it was done to give gamers a chance to watch the tie-in movie, Red Faction: Origins, which premieres on the SyFy Channel on Saturday, June 4.
At the same time THQ announced the delay, they also revealed that we’ll get a chance to get our asses to Mars on May 3rd with a demo on Xbox Live and (hopefully) PlayStation Network.
